really?
Compared to their competitors and Slazenger bat prices from previous years. No.

If you're going to compare the price to a bloke who finishes a few part mades at home in his shed alongside his full time job, then yes they are.

The way supply of willow is going, prices are only going to increase.

Indeed, as is proven by every one of our suppliers 2013 price lists, except Slazenger - the only one who haven't put their prices up...

My 2 Blank Bats cost little more than that combined, not sure they were finished off in a shed.

Any reason for the price of willow increasing other than the standard increase in logistics costs?

The thing I don't get is how a Dynadrive (admittedly a G2) can be £159 and this Slaz can be £200 more!!! I'm really not that sure that these will sell as well as some people think...although I'm happy to be proved wrong!  ;)

No, but with the greatest respect - they're sold out of a back bedroom by 2 guys who aren't registered as a company.

And yes, G1 and G2 is in very short supply. You now have to order a lot of 3's and 4's to get Top Grade, and Wrights have again put their prices.

Choose where you send your money - but big bat brands aren't ripping you off. £400 for a G1 is par for the course now and the margins really aren't that massive.

Dynadrive is made in India, probably from much lower grade willow - which is then upgraded by the manufacturer to make a G2.

Demand from sub-continental makers inccreasing and I'd guess the trend towards less durable bats caused by changing shape preferences. Historically, you bought a bat and it lasted years...

If you look at willow supply, GN supply their own, Wrights supply nearly everyone and then there's also a few smaller suppliers out there. It's a pretty restricted raw material supply model for a product that is being provided to a country with a significantly larger population than the combined exports ever wereand which is becoming more affluent.

I'm not sure where the guys store their bats but the fact remains that they are a quality product and would probably out-perform most of these Slaz bats hands down. With the huge price difference, surely for people in the know it's a no brainer. I can see them selling well to the less fortunate though and as you say no more expensive than their Rival brands

Interesting, so are we likely to see more lower grade clefts upgraded in house by brands in the future?

like g1 bats wrights state that a g1 shouldnt have heart wood how many g1 bats do u see with heartwood a fair few :)

end of the day willow prices are going up big companys have invested alot of money and the margins are not as big as you think,

The issue i can see is that there is no 'standard' in terms of grading willow...

So a hand made slazenger using their best willow costs £359 and a GN legend made in India will cost around £500+

Seems to me the slaz is a bargain (comparing prices)

I've given up listening to what grade a bat is, if it looks nice then I'm going to buy it. I've seen grade one bats look worse than my "grade 3" bleached bat.

Thanks Alba i guess if people want to pay big money for a company that isnt a 'back bedroom' company they can

but as you know the quality is up there with the £500+ bats

Quite - you're left as a consumer at the mercies of the bat maker really.

Quite agree - personally I like a decent edge of heartwood so I will look for that type of bat where I can get it.  Though I will have to consider whether I'm prepared to pay G1 prices for those in future...
