One of my mates applied to the forum yesterday and quickly clicked on the email to confirm membership but has not had approval yet - how long does it normally take for it all to go through?
-
I think one of my friends been waiting a few weeks...I'll have to check with him.
-
that's a long long time, why does it take so long??
-
I think its to insure that we keep the forum a close and honest community, going from previous history (Mark Tait etc) i think this has been tightened up.
-
There are loads of spam people who apply, which is why there are often hundreds waiting approval after a few days! Probably only a very small percentage are true cricket fans! Therefore we only manage to trawl through those pages and pages every so often. But I do have an idea!!
I think what may help is - if you have a mate (that you know and can vouch for!) then please PM me details!
I will keep a spreadsheet of the person and who recommended them. So you must be sure that they are someone who you recommend and can vouch for!
So feel free to PM me and I will start this spreadsheet! 8)

Was about to say exactly the same thing and you beat me to it - and I've been keeping a tally, we get on average 1400 applications a week.
-
if you have a mate who hasn't been approved for more than a week, my suggestion is that their account has been missed.
when that happens please pm one of the admin team.
-
Am I right in thinking most of these applications are spammers?
Might be easier to only accept applications with a recommendation in many cases. How do you trawl through 1400 a week?
-
It took me three attempts, including pms to admin, about a month elapsed time.
-
its a time consuming task sorting the wheat from the chaff so if people know mates who are awaiting approval a heads up to Admin from a current member with their mates registered username or email address will speed up the process for Admins
-
Isn't there some sort of bot blocker you can add to solve this?
-
What you actually wait for is Hosk to come to your house int eh night and inspect your bat collection...until then, you're blocked!
-
Took me about 3/4 attempts too... A referral system would be a good idea i think
-
3 steps you could take:
Install a better Captcha.
Put a ban on all .ru and .cn domains.
And install this mod http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1547
-
^^ as above i was going to say why dont u just have a question/ numbers letters combo u have to type in to verfy your a real person
-
it took me ages to get on the forum, i eventually purchased a few things via ayrtek and he got me on here in the end
top lad that Tomtek :)

looked on the forum and 2000+ members exist over roughly 4 years. Alot of spammers must be in that 1400 a week, infact nearly all of them. It would be easier to reject all applications and ask for 200 words on their cricketing influences, then post it to the forum for our acceptance!
Also noticed quite a few members sign up and never post or have visited the forum in the last 12 months.

We've a fair few bans in place already to affect this, and the numbers have come down. Sadly, the listed mod isn't compatible with our version of CBF, and I've not had time to upgrade us.

Yes, as with most forums, we have a significant dormant majority!
-
I wonder how many of the 'dormant' majority just sign up in order to buy things in the for sale threads? Maybe that part of the forum should only be 'unlocked' when you reach 50 posts? So the dormant majority have to post in order to buy from that area of the forum? It won't effect the forum sponsors, will add a little more security to those selling gear on here and will ensure that the proper users of the forum get first dibs on kit and not lurkers who don't add anything..... :D

Top thinking mate

Likewise
-
I joined because some of the threads looked very interesting and I wanted to ask the odd question or two. Mind you, seeing some of the custom bats on offer from the sponsors WAS like having your nose pressed up against the sweet shop window (still is)! It took a while to join but it was worth the hassle, I've been given some good advice by the guys on here when I've asked questions, so all good.
-
While mine took about 2monthsish I didn't actually get the confirmation email, so my membership had been approved 2 months before I actually tried logging in and realised it was active. Thus it was awhile before I started posting, maybe there are some people which have active accounts and don't know about it.
-
I think mine only took about an hour when i joined, was quite a while ago though
-
I applied 3 times the first time nothing happened for four weeks then on the CI forum i asked people to ask you guys to validate the account and then i was accepted :D
-
I was promised lots and I had to sleep with the Stig to get on here... i'm not sure it was worth it ;)
-
I signed up and logged in straight after.. All in the space of 5 mins... Must be cause I am a nice Aussie guy ;)
-
My membership was pretty quick all in about 30minutes, so good work.

It took me 2 months and 10 attempts mate ! :)

But is that an Aussie minute or a normal minute. If a double hat-trick over there is 4 in 4, a minute could be a week for all we know ;)

We like to take our time ;)
