Forum Membership approval
« on: October 05, 2012, 08:23:28 AM »

One of my mates applied to the forum yesterday and quickly clicked on the email to confirm membership but has not had approval yet - how long does it normally take for it all to go through?

I think its to insure that we keep the forum a close and honest community, going from previous history (Mark Tait etc) i think this has been tightened up.

There are loads of spam people who apply, which is why there are often hundreds waiting approval after a few days! Probably only a very small percentage are true cricket fans! Therefore we only manage to trawl through those pages and pages every so often. But I do have an idea!!

I think what may help is - if you have a mate (that you know and can vouch for!) then please PM me details!
I will keep a spreadsheet of the person and who recommended them. So you must be sure that they are someone who you recommend and can vouch for!
So feel free to PM me and I will start this spreadsheet!  8)

Was about to say exactly the same thing and you beat me to it - and I've been keeping a tally, we get on average 1400 applications a week.

if you have a mate who hasn't been approved for more than a week, my suggestion is that their account has been missed.
when that happens please pm one of the admin team.

Am I right in thinking most of these applications are spammers?

Might be easier to only accept applications with a recommendation in many cases. How do you trawl through 1400 a week?

its a time consuming task sorting the wheat from the chaff so if people know mates who are awaiting approval a heads up to Admin from a current member with their mates registered username or email address will speed up the process for Admins

Isn't there some sort of bot blocker you can add to solve this?

What you actually wait for is Hosk to come to your house int eh night and inspect your bat collection...until then, you're blocked!

3 steps you could take:
Install a better Captcha.
Put a ban on all .ru and .cn domains.
And install this mod http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1547
