Starting this topic ..... as noticed some comments from Andy referring me in a topic in CIF as well as here:
"but please make it look authentic I've recently been chatting to someone that has blunt tools but has a very good end product.... "

Frankly find it disappointing coming this from a respected bat maker.
Always open to positive criticism but find it unfair when such statements are aired undermining one's effort.

A lot of hate on the forum recently where's the love guys?!?!?
ST your bats look lovely and I find your bats and pictures staggeringly beautiful, keep them coming fella.
-
Sudeep dont worry abt what others say mate. Your bats are lovely, although i can understand you feel bad when some questions your integrity but you are skilled so just ignore it...
-
I don't understand what's happened?!
No one would have known who Andy was talking about until you bought it up?!

Hmmm, MAB was exactly who I though it was aimed at when I read it.

I thought it was fairly obvious!! I just didn't comment on it when it was posted hoping that ST would/might read it differently...

This is exactly my point.. I would prefer to take it directly at my chin rather than such generic statements:
"Good honest [unlike some I've seen] effort well done"
which results in such questions:
"Norbs, are you implying some people have been buying bats and passing them off as their own? ???"
and these questions are deliberately left unanswered to create an atmosphere of doubt and leave everyone to make his own conclusion..
-
Personally, I'd just ignore mate. I have no doubt that the bats you put up are made by yourself. They all look absolutely stunning too! If I can get them looking half that good when they're done I'd be happy
-
I have to be honest I am 100% certain this isn't directed at you. My assumption was that this was directed at people who claim to make bats for their brands but who actually buy them premade and use their extreme stickering skills to finish the bat.
Everyone on here thinks the work you do (and the photography that accompanies it) is brilliant

That was always my understanding too (certainly the drum norbs usually bangs - rightly so)....Though he did once question someone on here for 'pretending' to have a hand crafted/finished bat that was finished too well?
Or maybe this whole thread is reverse psychology marketing/PR ;)

Yep. That's how I read it...

Yeah, agreed i know the bloke only too well and I'll bet a pint of thatchers it wasn't aimed at you fella.
He'll encourage anyone who has a go at doing it properly, i know this first hand.
It'll be aimed and people with nothing but a set or stickers and an orbital sander.
Now buy a drawknife its quicker ;) (tongue in cheek)

I feel I should reply but I might just leave an air or mystery... :o
firstly I've never actually seen anyone use one those travishers without some form of adjustment successfully so well done
Here is my reply to the question.... on the thread http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=20162.msg318925#msg318925

Norbs, are you implying some people have been buying bats and passing them off as their own?
I can hold my hands up and honestly say I dont supply anyone bats or part mades
I have previously said directly to you that the finish on your is very good for the tools you used and how you use them and was confused at the time still am to be honest but there you go that is just me ...
But I offered the following advice
After that video I am astounded you can create those types of bat in the pics... You must be better then Oscar at sanding!
Your plane needs a bloody good sharpen and you use the draw knife upside down...
As you mentioned you have problems with the shoulder shaping that method, upside down draw knife, can be used on there but for someone starting, even though you finished product confusingly very good:o, it isnt recommended. It is easier to use a spokeshave on the shoulder mount the bat on the vice so the edge is facing the ceiling...
I've yet to see the travisher you use?
But this is really important everything needs to be sharp
This is were it gets confusing with you as your end product doesn't really justify giving out advice like this but here goes
To maintain an edge I use these
EZE-Lap Diamond Sharpener Hone & Stone 3 Pc Set Super Fine, Fine & Medium
To get an edge I use this [Thanks to Beachcricket to introducing me to workshop heaven]
http://www.workshopheaven.com/tools/3M_Imperial_Lapping_Film_PSA_Sample_Pack.html
buy the pack and stick them down yourself on something flat....
If you are really stuck pop to a Carpenter a few quid to sharped them for you... and you just maintain the edge after that....
For the drawknife I hold it between my shoulder and hand and run files up and down.... and like jonners says flatten the back but you flatten the back on all tools...
As you can see I haven't said anything other then say I was confused by your end product. I have been making bats for the best part of 7 years and still remember what it was like starting out and how hard it was to get things right..... If you ask anyone I help out as much as time allows, which is very few and far between nowadays for a whole raft of reasons..... By the looks of it though [by your bats] you dont need any help
-
Andy you have the right to question but why not just a direct post or PM stating "ST i dont think or agree that you are making your own bats, if you can convince me otherwise I will change my opinion"
You do share the knowledge and we appreciate that (especially people like me who have no clue)
Edit: I guess you have stated it somewhat in your posts...but a direct route is always better...
-
Andy you are one of those members here who share knowledge from personal experience and make this forum a great place.
There is no denying your statements here carry lot of weight-age. As much as I appreciate your compliments with regards to my bat making skills, your "confusion" more or less balances it out.
I do have a non-conventional way to make bats and I am far from accomplished hence I will surely need constructive comments and advices.
To the fellow members who posted here, thank you very much for your appreciation and advices. I have no hidden agenda here.
-
I stood by my post as you asked me a question. There is no need to convince me if you make bats or not, ultimately I dont really care
You dont need any constructive comments your finished product is fine. So as I see it there is no need to post on here asking for it or advice be happy with what you do, get yourself an advertiser account and sell them
-
I am part of this forum since 2009 and I have not posted one single sales thread till date.
Whether I choose to be a sponsor is entirely my prerogative.
As far as my bat making threads are concerned, I would love to keep showing my work to get feedback.
I don't think I have made any violations unless administrators here point otherwise.
For present, I am happy contributing in this forum in terms of posts and buying part made clefts and other stuff from forum sponsors.
-
Ok do me a favour then dont get upset when you get feedback
-
I think what Andy was trying to say is your bats are of high enough standard to sell to people.....
Has the forum synchronised menstrual cycles as there seems to be an inordinate amount of tension & bitchiness in the air of late from everyone ???
Lets all take a step away from the keyboard for a while and read and digest posts properly before thinking everyone is shouting at us constantly :D

It's like an almighty blob-strop!! :D

I don't see the problem, he is saying your bats are good, even though you are doing it with sub standard tools which must show that you are very talented in your trade.
