Title: Your Keeping kit for 2013
Post by: justnotcricket86 on November 16, 2012, 01:35:02 PM
Right then chaps,

There are a few keepers amongst us willow lovers, what kit are you looking at using for the next season? Been flicking between my Wymers and Kook Silvers from a couple of years ago, but looking at something new. Possibly Puma or this years GN Legends. I like the Puma Pulse that Wade and Kieswetter have been using but apparently not going to be available here, and Puma have not released their new range yet as far as I know

What do we think then?

I'm using the Newbery pads that go under the trousers and am still undecided on what gloves to get

Again thinking newbery, GM or GN

Any suggestions?!

Probably swap between my existing Blenheim pads and Puma Calibre Tricks 5000 depending on my mood. Some life still in Blenheim gloves too and barely used pair of Ayrteks to break in so probably don't need any new. Having said that I am keen to have a look at the new GN gloves.

i've just got the newbery pads that go under your trousers as well seem to be very comfortable and got a pair of new GN legend 2012  that need braking in. i was gunna get the 2013 pair but didn't really like the look of the hypertac grip on the parms, thought i would keep it traditional with the octopus grip

Salix pod one gloves and pads for me. Got them last year and they are just about broken in I reckon. Plus don't really like the look of any of the new 2013 range of keeping gear I'm afraid.

Very tempted to go Puma this year myself, just waiting for their range to come out. The new Kook stuff looks shocking

This may be a stupid question but does anyone know why chamois inners are so popular? I've always gone for cotton since (a) you can put them in a washing machine and (b) they're cheaper. I've tried the leather ones in the past and never noticed much of a difference in terms of the feel of the ball through the gloves.

i find cotton 1's to thick and the chamois 1's obv u soak in water to make them supple and they feel just right for me so av allways used them

Gray Nics legend pads and gloves for me. Loved my 2012 Legend gloves, the new palm on the 2013 gloves only improves them!

Considering this custom made draw around your hand job from Geoff Wymer, will look into it further this weekend.

Cheers mate they are as u put it 'the dogs thingy's'. But u had to search for ages to get a pair. Every company I spoke to, that had advertise they had them in their website turned they didn't had them. So I ended up buying a pair off eBay, so I suggest u start there.

They haven't arrived in store yet, but i did wear them for the entire time i was at the grays stand chatting during the trade show, and i do like them, i'll be wearing them in 2013.

Thanks Jake, I tried them on at Uzi and they seemed nice but just a bit unsure about what the grip will be like on those palms. Considering how expensive they are I would like to be confident they will perform. Did the GN guys say much about the new palm?
Title: Re: Your Keeping kit for 2013
Post by: Vitas Cricket on January 03, 2013, 02:01:37 AM
Not much really, I assumed they were silicon coated like those ones aero have released, and whilst not quite the same, I guess the principle is the same, the palm is supposed to be more 'sticky' which can only help right?

To be honest, for the quality of glove, I don't think they are expensive when compared to the kookaburra haddin (players in 2013) gloves.
Title: Re: Your Keeping kit for 2013

I think the whole sticky palm business is a bit of a gimmick to be honest
.

From the brief experience I had wearing them and handling a ball with them at the trade show, it certainly did no harm, so gimmick maybe, but if it boosts people's confidence then it's a useful placebo.

Post by: cricketboy2010 on January 03, 2013, 05:25:19 AM
Yes, It could be useful in that way! How sticky is the palm is self? Would grass etc stick to it if you took a dive?

Cheers for the feedback, true in comparison to top Kooks but those are obscenely priced in my opinion

I had Hawk Cricket pads and gloves last couple of years, wernt bad but protection could have been a little better. This year bit tighter on cash so gone for these:

Hopefully gloves will do a job otherwise i might have to splash the cash and go fro Gray Nics - had a pair of Fusion supagels a few years back and they were great gloves.

Humph. Sold out of our first batch of legend keeping gear.

Have been waiting for the next lot so I can grab a set for myself. Will be delayed until I'm already a few games into my season (weather permitting my first game is April 6th...)

So in the meantime I will be using a bit of SS gear that I picked up today when visiting the warehouse.

I dug through a bin marked 'pro' and found a pair of mostly blue camo (with a touch of white) dhoni style keeping gloves labelled as 'Ultimate' and some keeping pads labelled 'Gladiator' - both are SS branded not TON. I think these model names were available to retail in 2011/12 but these feel 'nicer' than the typical off the shelf gear from SS.

The gloves particularly are fantastic. Supple, comfortable and very well made, as all Sareen gear is.

I'll get some snaps up in the morning, and no doubt anyone who is coveting them will get the opportunity to buy them in early May when my Legend keeping stuff arrives. :)

I'm still not sure what to make of the palm, i guess i cant judge until i've taken a few balls wearing them.

We only got a small amount of legend keeping stuff in as it is on the pricey side. The assumption being not all of it would sell, and i would take what was left to use myself. But i've had to order more for myself and GN are looking at mid/late April - early may before i get both the pads and the gloves. (i need large mens pads this year which i didn't realize until i tried on the mens size, which are quite compact. Large mens tends to come later anyway)

Will get some snaps up in an hour or two when i get into the shop. I'm still a little drained from sifting through probably 300 bats yesterday at the oval.

Does anyone have any suggestions for keeping kit, it's not really my field of knowledge having been a fast-bowler all my life. Injuries have meant I want to keep this year but have no idea what kit to get.

I'm looking for pads that are lightweight and fairly easy to run in and gloves that are flexible and don't come far down your wrists? Any ideas?

May I recommend the Gray nicolls maverick range, incredibly flexible, minimalist glove that fits the wrist the way you describe, and the pads are very lightweight.

Hi long time lurker thought id post regarding the new GN Legend keeping gloves

having had 2 pairs of legend gloves in the last couple of years which have been superb once broken in i was slightly worried when seeing the new legends and the hypertec palms, ive had the large mens for 3 months now and they are up there with the kooks 1000 for comfort and the grip is excellent only downside to them is the silly shortie cuff someone has decided to go to, and legend keeping are pads brill too :)

Two pairs of gloves on the go.

The older pair are CJI's (top quality gloves of which I've had a couple of pairs now).  Then to change it up I bought a pair of M+H brown suede ones that were on offer just prior to Xmas.  Finding them difficult to wear in, but I'm sure they will become more supple over time.

Pads wise I have VKS.  These are the modern style, effectively just Puma colbolts but cheaper.  Not too sure on them at the moment.  As a taller keeper the straps are in a slightly awkward position, got a couple of old pairs to go back to if needs be but I will give them a chance.

Onto my third pair of gloves in the off season, having not actually used any off them.

Here are the Surridge Turbo gloves, look like they have been used a fair bit, but have been refaced.

I have been using the Kooks Haddins and they are amazing, so comfortable and although they did cost a bit, if taken care of properly they will last.

Changed my mind again and will be using Gm original kit this season. Anyone used the original gloves before?

Ordered some from Lorimers eBay page but they seem to have been lost by Royal Mail by the looks of it :(

Loving my Legend gloves, not had much use for them so far with only a handful of chances created by our bowlers, but they are very comfortable.

What's the cuff like on them Jake? Still traditional as looks a tad shorter this year

I cannot believe how comfy the GN gloves are. I've never tried on any glove that is anywhere near as comfy.

Wouldn't say the cuffs feel short. I am using the Oblivion Players.

I was slightly worried the material may not stand up to the task like other leather gloves but if anything they are better.

A bit shorter than my 2012's, but nothing too drastic.
