I do love RPC that I have, One of these 2 belongs to a friend (L&W Ultra/special profile) mine is the same/similar to the one I already have :)...which makes it 2 for me. If this is just as good as the one i have then there might be more orders ;)

Just turned my phone around and the bottom bat looks just as good as the top!

Top shape is mine, my weight request was between 2.10 to 2.11 (closer to 2.11) and L&W profile is requested to be 2.10

A second one. Looks great but Minor blemishes. I see you use heavier bats and low mids. I don't like low middle.

To be fair we did not ask for pretty looking bats, 2nd bat had a request for 12+ grains but #1 priority was the performance which i guess we will judge when they get here...

These were the requests made...

Bat 2
No/minimal concaving
Midlow middle
2:10
Light pickup
Very less wood near the handle/shoulder (6 inches near the handle) almost like special or ultra profile from L&W http://www.laverwood.co.nz/profile.php
Standard size - short handle, normal blade
Performance grade 1 English willow with above 12 grains if possible

Bat 3 (This one is for me and here is what Liam and I had discussed in March)

Weight: Between 2lb 10oz to 2lbs 11oz (closer to 2.11 than 2.10)
Middle: Mid/low
No/minimal concaving.
Don’t care about looks but must perform

Love the first profile. Not that keen on the second one if I'm being honest

All I'll ask is it's 2lb 9oz, low to mid middle and goes like my Kooka Kahuna players bat. If it performs like that or better than I'llbe very very happy.

Tush, I heard the flight on which they are expected to leave UK is being hijacked and it will land Toronto instead of Halifax :O

No worries, I'll take care of them more than myself....

I know you're extremely considerate so thank you in advance :)

Oh lastly don't worry, I'll send you some videos of bat in use so you can see how it performs...

I am really liking that second profile, it is really quite similar to my Helios! 8) How much did these set you back Tushar?

How does No/minimal concaving affect your bat. Will it provide better pickup and how is the balance going to be ?

Lovely bats tushar....score tonns of runs with these
When does cricket start back your you guys in canada..do you play indoor ?

How does No/minimal concaving affect your bat. Will it provide better pickup and how is the balance going to be ?
avoiding concaving gives a wider sweet spot on a bat..at least that is what i have noticed....my bulldog t20 and bb bats have minimal con-caving and both have extended sweet spot

As far I know, concaving makes pick-up lighter (not using better as light pickup is not everyones cup of tea).

Tim would be best man if you further need elaboration..

Concaving gives you bigger edges. That's about it. It makes far less difference to the pick-up than people think, although mentally that seems to be another matter, and on bats without giant edges, it is used as a way of removing wood and leaving the spine to reduce weight.
Title: Re: On the way!!
Post by: Chad on December 13, 2012, 03:06:03 PM
Yeah, concaving is just a technique to get the weight of the bat down without compromising edge size of spine height in most bats today. Essentially, it does improve pick up, but you could do the same just just dropping the edge size. Also heard someone having a theory that the more wood you have in line with the handle and less on the edge, the better the pick-up. :)

Believe me, it doesn't. I have a number of old school non-concaved bats that pick up just as well as the similarly weighted concaved bats. It's all in your head!

I'm begginign to find that bats without concaving, to me, pick up so much better than bats with concaving.  One of the 2 bat's I've shaped for myself is concaved and weighs a couple of ounces less than the one that isn't concaved, yet the bat without concaving picks up better!

I meant that it does as you are removing weight off the bat, the pick-up is enhanced, but I guess if we are comparing it to bats of the same weight, then yes, pick-up isn't really improved by concaving at all. I agree about the old school bats, (Small edges, no concaving and meat in the centre of the bat) in that the best pick up I have had was a 2.11 Mjolnir, which picked up just as well as my 2.8 bats, which is why I am more keen traditionally shaped bats. :D Also much more responsive, but that's not to say concaved bats are bad!

I'm not sure who it was that said more meat down the centre of the bat rather that the edge improved pick up (I think they may have said bat speed too), but it has been the case for most bats I have used. Something related may pop up in a class sometime in the future, so may shed more light into this area for me. 8) Or I could just drop out and become a podshaver and experiment to find out. :D

As for concaving, I find concaved bats feel horrible in hand if you haven't middled the ball and it seems like the bat rotates more in hand if it is concaved...these are my opinions/how i feel...

Now having said that not all concaving is bad but i just prefer no/minimal concaving as it suits me mentally and which in turns helps physically...

Tush my friend you are spoiling yourself with all these RP bats. not that i'm at all jealous :) I was in the workshop when they did the last one you ordered and that was an absolute CANNON so i doubt Rob would send anything that doesn't already match what you have. Laver profiles arent my bag but the mini swell type profile you had before is awesome, thats what i have at the moment, made when yours was if i remember rightly because i snook you the profile pic over as it seemed to match your specs....  my god does it fly!! have fun with these mate and i hope your friend is happy. You'll have to let me know how they both get on.

Thanks again

No thank you Liam, I would have never tried the RPC had it not been for you and I am glad I did. One from earlier is indeed terrific, its so good that at one point there were 5 people just in my team that were ready to order, anyways only 2 of us eneded up ordering but I do know another guy who is waiting till Jan/Feb so as to reduce the christmas debt a little before he orders and another maybe.

I am on the fence about L&W profile but that what Danny wanted....How are you bats going, well i guess how is your leg first :)

I agree about the scuff sheets! I reckon they have to be shaped to the shape of the toe and only cover a little bit of the sticker. Does mean that they have more protection though! Use helicopter anti-scuff next time! :P
Title: Re: On the way!!
Post by: tushar sehgal on December 25, 2012, 01:10:29 AM
They came applied with scuff sheets, I don't mind the look anymore. My current RPC looks identical and to be honest sometimes i look at it and wish it looked better and then i use it and forget all about looks.

These both felt very very nice in hand today bouncing both a new and old ball. I was surprised by the lighter one (one with less heartwood), it really does respond well....

whats pleasing for me is that I can ask for same specs as last time and its exactly the same to every little details as 2 grips, handle type etc.... cant wait for nets :)

Thanks Liam, new one is somehow better responding than the one i got earlier which is hard to comprehend as the old is fantastic. Danny's bat is equally good too, took mine to nets on Saturday and it was amazing...i can only drool over how it will play once it opens up a bit more, currently doing the precautionary knocking even though it does not feel like it needs any :)

By the way Simon was great to deal with...

apologies for the late reply matey. Leg is getting lots better now thanks. Netting etc and back in the gym :)
I always get spoilt with my bats now, no idea why though because i am pants!! have the amazing mini swell thats the twin of yours and a traditional profiled beast that just seems to keep getting better. not overly grainey either, think it has 6 and a bit wobbly but RP sent it to disprove the 'more grains is best' stereotype and i have to say he has made his point with regards to pressing over particulars.

Good to hear mate, I know grains aren't everything but nothing beats a nice clean blades with good grains :D, RP does a great job with his bats to grains are least important.
