Tush, just wondering did you ask for a three strip handle or its purely Robert's choice?

Bat 3 (This one is for me and here is what Liam and I had discussed in March)

Weight: Between 2lb 10oz to 2lbs 11oz (closer to 2.11 than 2.10)
Middle: Mid/low
No/minimal concaving.
Don’t care about looks but must perform

How does No/minimal concaving affect your bat. Will it provide better pickup and how is the balance going to be ?

Lovely bats tushar....score tonns of runs with these
When does cricket start back your you guys in canada..do you play indoor ?

avoiding concaving gives a wider sweet spot on a bat..at least that is what i have noticed....my bulldog t20 and bb bats have minimal con-caving and both have extended sweet spot

As far I know, concaving makes pick-up lighter (not using better as light pickup is not everyones cup of tea).

Tim would be best man if you further need elaboration..

Concaving gives you bigger edges. That's about it. It makes far less difference to the pick-up than people think, although mentally that seems to be another matter, and on bats without giant edges, it is used as a way of removing wood and leaving the spine to reduce weight.

Yeah, concaving is just a technique to get the weight of the bat down without compromising edge size of spine height in most bats today. Essentially, it does improve pick up, but you could do the same just just dropping the edge size. Also heard someone having a theory that the more wood you have in line with the handle and less on the edge, the better the pick-up. :)

Believe me, it doesn't. I have a number of old school non-concaved bats that pick up just as well as the similarly weighted concaved bats. It's all in your head!

I'm begginign to find that bats without concaving, to me, pick up so much better than bats with concaving.  One of the 2 bat's I've shaped for myself is concaved and weighs a couple of ounces less than the one that isn't concaved, yet the bat without concaving picks up better!

I meant that it does as you are removing weight off the bat, the pick-up is enhanced, but I guess if we are comparing it to bats of the same weight, then yes, pick-up isn't really improved by concaving at all. I agree about the old school bats, (Small edges, no concaving and meat in the centre of the bat) in that the best pick up I have had was a 2.11 Mjolnir, which picked up just as well as my 2.8 bats, which is why I am more keen traditionally shaped bats. :D Also much more responsive, but that's not to say concaved bats are bad!

I'm not sure who it was that said more meat down the centre of the bat rather that the edge improved pick up (I think they may have said bat speed too), but it has been the case for most bats I have used. Something related may pop up in a class sometime in the future, so may shed more light into this area for me. 8) Or I could just drop out and become a podshaver and experiment to find out. :D

As for concaving, I find concaved bats feel horrible in hand if you haven't middled the ball and it seems like the bat rotates more in hand if it is concaved...these are my opinions/how i feel...

Now having said that not all concaving is bad but i just prefer no/minimal concaving as it suits me mentally and which in turns helps physically...

Tush my friend you are spoiling yourself with all these RP bats. not that i'm at all jealous :) I was in the workshop when they did the last one you ordered and that was an absolute CANNON so i doubt Rob would send anything that doesn't already match what you have. Laver profiles arent my bag but the mini swell type profile you had before is awesome, thats what i have at the moment, made when yours was if i remember rightly because i snook you the profile pic over as it seemed to match your specs....  my god does it fly!! have fun with these mate and i hope your friend is happy. You'll have to let me know how they both get on.

Thanks again
