Over the last year or so I've seen various ways to repair a cracked/ damaged toe. There are loads of different options available although I think it tends to differ from bat to bad and the kind of damage caused.
I'd say the three main ones are;
Glue and binding
Wooden dowel/ pinning
Toe inserts
Anyway, I've received a bat over Christmas to repair. This was a strange one to me, I've never seen a crack develop and not go ether through the face or the back of the bat before. I couldn't open it up and simply glue and clamp and didn't think pinning it would give enough protection so decided to go down the toe insert route.

So started on it today, I've made another jig to make sure that the cut it accurate and to give a nice tight fit. Once I was happy with the test pieces I made the channel in the damaged toe then cut the correct width timber which was going to be glued in the gap.
It's all glued up and clamped, just need to trim the excess off and sand.

Not sure if I took one. Best way to describe it was like a spiders web. Little hole in the middle with "legs" coming from it out. Not big enough to go through the front or back but needed attention.

Good work as always Ryan my friend
Thanks Thomas :D

And how did you cut the section of toe out? Ive tried various methods but none have been as neat looking as that.

I'll give you a hint...it's in the picture ;)

Router. What wood did you use for the insert?

Correct. Had to make a little jig for it to make sure the cut was straight and exactly where I wanted it to be.
I've got some oak off cuts so cut one down to the correct width. Any hardwood would do though.

Do u think this would benefits my bat mate or is it to far gone?

Looks a good job mate. One question, how deep does it go? I always thought it went down the edge a little more?

Gary been doing this for years looks a bit thick mate can make crack a bit easyer if the tsi is to thick

Think the SCAT is too far gone but could give it a go tom, might be better than the pinning so up to you...

i'd doesnt have to go that far down the edge, if you think about it you have from the bottom of the edge to the bottom of the toe so roughly 15mm. I'll post more pictures once trimmed and sanded.
