Title: Cricket Tour
Post by: joeylough on January 08, 2013, 04:01:50 PM
Right so I'm trying to get a few people at my club to go on a tour. The problem is that I am naff and in the 3rds/4ths and just want to play cricket out of this country. I have recruited the 1st team keeper to try and get the ball rolling and get a mix of people.

But I was thinking a 4 day trip costing no more than £250, do you think this could be possible and where are the best places for this estimate.

It's going to be tough for that amount of money. I'd say Spain is probably your best bet though.....cheap flight to Malaga or something like that....

These guys are probably worth a try, I have no first hand experience of them though... :)

thanks. I now the price is low, but from speaking to others they would rather spend little money and drive down south for a few games.

but I fancy some overseas action.

The La Manga tournament in October could be a good bet, if its just you who is looking/able to go, you could always tag along as part of my cub, although even we are not fully signed up yet.

How about the Isle of Wight then? Ticks all the boxes and is a really good laugh! It's the closest 'far away' place you can visit! Seriously, It's like Narnia over there....Unicorns and everything!  :D

Thanks for the offer Jake, I think that I would be a fish out of water if I went there. But thanks again. Also our club is one below premier so I think we would miss out.

I like the holland idea. I think it is time for me get the club players out of hibernation and get on tour.

Thanks for your help chaps

I think I've posted about it before but I've toured Prague, Munich, Malta, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia (i may have missed somewhere) and going back to Prague this year. All have been great.

Each one of them has cost less than £250 for flights and accom.

PM me if you want any info.....

Don't know much about the cricket I'm afraid.

We did 4 nights / 5 days away in Belgium to celebrate our 25th year anniversary of forming back in June.

£175 all in per player plus ££££££ beer money - 16 players, minibus self drive, eurotunnel, diesel, motoway tolls, 1 night in St Omer Etap, 1 night in Gent Holiday Inn Express, 2 nights in Brussels City centre IBis. 2 matches Vs Ghent Arcadians, and 12 Stars of Brussels (both have web sites). Very accomodating hosts and a prettty decent standard of cricket if you want it, we are an ordinary middle aged social side but they adapted to our standard and we enjoyed both matches.

Otherwise the IOW is another good option - we had a day tour to Brading CC. in August / decent standard, and Ryde Esplande is a cracking night out where you are bound to meet up with another few touring teams. A couple of Goddard's Ale of Wight's in the King Ludd is always a good finish to the evening.

And on the way out or the way back you could always stop at the home of Cricket, the Bat & Ball, Hambledon for a pint of Fullers London Pride and get your photograph taken on the hallowed turf.

Isle of Wight is an awful place! Had a tour there last year, pissed it down for two days straight. Clubs and bars there are crap too and cabs are expensive (£50 for a 15 minute journey, +£80 chunder charge). Oh and the locals dislike visitors and decided to start a fight breaking our skippers nose... nice place otherwise.

Shame our game at the Ventnor bowl ground got cancelled though as it looks like a top ground.

Toured the IoW a few years ago and like Leo says rained for 4 days 1st year we went and limited entertainment!

Second year was better tho and played in the ventnor bowl and against someone else who I can't remember now due to booze intake!

La manga is amazing jake, top facilities, pubs and golf course if u get the chance! Hoping to return again this year but a 4 day bender took it toll on my liver and wallet

We fly out to Alicante tomorrow on our pre season tour.
We are going to Benidorm which isn't the nicest place at all, we are staying way out of the resort, and hopefully the cricket will be as good as it was last year when we chased down 270 and narrowly lost on the Sunday game.

The cricket club we are playing is Sporting Alfas, and they are great hosts, flights to Spain are fairly cheap, and our hotel is very cheap as it is out of season.

I've heard Holland is supposed to be a good place to tour. Want to try and organise one this year, but I think for our first trip we might stay in England...

I can thoroughly recommend Amsterdam, toured there twice now. Once with Uni as part of a 2 week European tour and once a couple of years back with my club. We stayed in town and played 3 localish clubs Kampong, VRA (unfortunatly on on the main international pitch) and Ajax. Cricket was good, grounds are great and the hospitality was fantastic. Plus once you've eventually left the host clubs you have the delights of Amsterdam to explore!

We leave for Amsterdam on Friday in a mini bus :o. We are suppose to play two games out there but the way people are talking we might stuggle finding half our team. We are having a eveing meal with one of the teams we are playing against which should be good.
Oh and check out the hotel we are staying in http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2232828/Worlds-worst-hotel-warns-visitors-sue-Hans-Brinker-Amsterdam-boasts-filthy-rooms.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2232828/Worlds-worst-hotel-warns-visitors-sue-Hans-Brinker-Amsterdam-boasts-filthy-rooms.html)

Ask Vitas they came up here last year and they thoroughly enjoyed it! I will probably play against you as I generally play against the touring teams, who you guy's playing?

It was Newcastle, then Blackpool and now the company have folded so not sure where we are going. Got a meeting next week to decide.

Stick to Newcastle. Great games of cricket, lovely grounds (incredible decks in all 3 of our games) combined with terrific hosts who were (mostly) up for the challenge of draining Newcastle supply of booze with us.

Nights out are a cracking too, though I can mainly only recall that thanks to pictures....

On the other hand, Blackpool is home to Europes largest rotating dance floor.
