Just wondering if anyone has played/plays against current test players?
Trent Boult (opening blower from NZ) was playing for his local club last weekend. The poor sods who played him on Saturday had no answer, He took 8 wickets.
Kane Williamson is a member of my club but was apparently injured last week otherwise he would have played.
-
Brett lee played for Mosman and it was a mismatch....

Wow.
At least he's a good dude about it.

Warner crabbing around for a change

-
I used to play Yorkshire league and if you were unlucky you could end up playing the likes of Craig White or Chris Silverwood on their free weekends.
-
Apparently Ed Cowan was due to play for Bath CC last year before he got called up as he was coming back from injury
-
Joe Root was playing in the Yorkshire league up to last season for Sheffield Colligiate CC
-
Worst would be the Bradford and Yorkshire Leagues, where you can end up playing county players in Second XI cricket!
-
Jamie How plays in the lancs league I believe
-
Saqlain Mushtaq
Alex Tudor
Uzman Afzal
all play for West Indian Cavaliers in the Nottinghamshire Prem also, I know they are no longer test players but thats 3 in just one team!
-

He played a season or two in Scotland 2-3 years ago.
-
Terry Duffin (ex-Zimbabwe) played in the WEPL league I play in a few years back - he was rather good....
-

Jamie plays northern league

James Taylor played a game for Shrewsbury last year in the Birmingham Premier League a week before his test debut

Amazing to see that these sort of players don't have better records at this level!

I doubt they put quite as much effort in.
-
He was run out, so I guess that's his one saving grace. A soiled looking 3 off 15 balls isn't too impressive though!

Got to remember the lad is only 22, so when he was 17 he scored a double hundred in one of the best club leagues in the country
-
Jamie plays northern league
Jamie used to play Northern League - not been re-signed for 2012 - replaced by Doolan, the Aussie, who I believe is on the brink of the national team

Doolan played for ramsbottom a couple of seasons ago, looked a good un
Pelser has swapped league and joined rawtenstall from leyland was it?

He was at Leyland yes - they terminated his contract under mutual agreement, as it sounds as though Leyland are strapped for cash.
It seems the trend in the Northern League this year is to sign local lads as the 'pro' - sounds like they're all skint

I would think 2012's weather has hurt both big and small clubs alike. I'd go as far as to say if 2013 is as bad or even half as bad the game will lose a lot of clubs and so players (as 99%) of players have no interest in going to a club and being rotated or not getting regular games.
-
The days of 5 figure pro coming over have seemed to have disappeared althought there a rise of Asian professionals steadily and the fall of Aussie and Saffas Iam finding.
The rise of the Indian touring academy's has helped a whole generation of cheap professionals into the uk with many on less than 150 a week.
-
Had some big pros in the Lancs League of late. Faf Du Plessis played with Ramsbottom a few years back whom is now scoring many runs, now my club have signed Brett Pelsar who will be a great addition. In the 90's we had Shane Warne at Accrington when he was 19!!!! Chris Cairns at Bacup also!!
-
Your forgetting Alan Donald at Rishton also viv Richards also at same club Steve Waugh at Nelson and so many more roger harper at bacup and bevan at rawtenstall
Shame the standard of pro across the board has gone down yet they ask for more money
Not just lancs league Bolton league across all leagues in the area
-
Looks like Ramsbottom has had some amazing Pro's over the years!
Chris Harris
Ian Harvey
Brad Hodge
Michael Clarke
Murali Kartik
Lou Vincent

Andy Flower played for Eastbourne in the Sussex Prem and Monty played for Three Bridges in the same league.
-
Andy Flower played for Bangor in the North Wales Premier League!
-
Justin Langer, Adam Gilchrist, Azhar Ali, Daniel Flynn, Yasir Arafat have all played in Scottish Club Cricket.
Shane Harwood supposedly was unplayable when he played for St Anne's in the Northern Premier league. Took 100 wickets in 22 games @ 7's in 2005!!

Mike Hussey, Matt Horne, Michael Papps, Ed Cowan, George Bailey, Todd Astle, Kruger van Wyk, Tom Cooper, along with plenty of others too.
We might be (No Swearing Please), but we get good players to come play our cricket for us.

Did Dravid ever play any club cricket up there? I know he played for the Scottish Saltires or whatever they were called?
-
Lou Vincent sub pro'ed for us last year, top bloke! came and did a few senior practices too. Ramsbottom have a LOT of money and seem to get very very good pro's and amateurs to go and play for them. However some of the littler clubs such as colne have had some big pro's such as Anwar Ali a few seasons ago.
-

Nah, all the other saltires overseas boys have but he just went around doing publicity stuff i think.

Didn't get me out :D
I think he scored a ton that year too

To not get out to him looks like a serious achievement, hats off sir!

Just revisited the scorecard.... think I might of run myself out trying to get off strike in the first fixture!
He didn't get me out in the second fixture, though he pin me.
-
Worst would be the Bradford and Yorkshire Leagues, where you can end up playing county players in Second XI cricket!
Blain and Gould playing for Gomersal 2's
-
Murray Goodwin played a few years in Aire Wharfe years back, so did Harwood
i know Laxman and Mohammed Yousaf played bradford league, when he was Yousaf Yohanna along with plenty of other internationals and county pro's
-
Your club scene sounds ridiculous. Probably on the same level as our provincial level which is the step before Northen Districts.
Any guys from the UK been to NZ who can comment on the difference of levels?
-

Leyland signed luis reece who in my opinion is better than pelser
-
Brett is an established 1st class pro, whereas as Luis is a local lad playing county 2nds, so not sure how you've come to that conclusion.
I suppose Luis is a proper all rounder (in fact playing for the unicorns he seemed to play more as a bowler) whereas as Brett is really a batter who's bowling is handy at league level.
-
I remember the story either last year or year before when Mohammed Amir turned out for a village team illegally. Opened the batting scored 50 odd and took a few wickets with the new ball. Asif also did something similar. Akhtar had a game once in the birmingham leagues to get fit and of course Akram turned out for Smethwick in his top of the line sports car about 5 mins before start of play and bowled serious wheels. Donald turned out for K&D years back also and was lethal!!
-
Loads of players played club cricket before and after playing test cricket but how many played club cricket whilst they actually we playing international cricket ? Not many in this country now but I think it still happens more often in Australia. In the old Lancashire league it happened all the time while some of these international were in their pomp. Shame it doesn't happen now as much
I have played against Grant Flower (before he played tests) and Joel Garner (after he had retired)
Also to play in the Somerset League - Richie Richardson (Staplegrove) Shane Warne (Bristol) An Aussie Spinner, cant remember his name ? (Knowle) Ian Botham (Yeovil) WG Grace (Downend)
Basically all test players will have played club cricket at some point in their early careers.
-
Wasim Akram and Akhtar were certainly playing international and or test cricket at the time but yeh not many now. Why would they? Only reason would be for part of the rehab process from injury. For example James Pattinson and Watson recently played in the sydney grades.
-
Yes I cant think of one current international playing club cricket in England last year ? might be wrong ?
-
All year round internationals have put pay to it I remember harfeez was the last I have seen and that was a few years ago
-
Very true and and most countries have central contracts.
-

They are barely allowed to play for their counties let alone a club side.
-
happens alot more often over in aus with grade cricket
-
Played against Dean Headley and Martin McCague in the past couple of years. Both play mainly as batsman now.
-
Azhar (Ali) has played at my club since 1999, when he came over specifically as a leg-spinner...how times change!!
-
Mohammad Asif played one East Anglian Premier League game during the imfamous 2010 summer. 1 wicket in 18 overs and 8 with the bat. Not exactly test standard.

St Luke's, took 4/9 in seven overs and scored 60 whilst opening.

Trent Boult plays as much as he can. His brother plays for the same club so that might have something to do with it.
But yeah, I was seeing if any current test players played club cricket.
-
There used to be loads in the Northern Leagues - when I was young I got to play against Clayton Lambert, Ijaz Ahmed, Phil Simmons, Kenny Benjamin, Ravi Ratnayake and a fair few others. In recent years its less frequent - you get the odd one, but only that, and mostly Zimbabweans and Kiwis from what I can tell.
-
Can't believe noone has mentioned Collis King in here though! Still going strong in the York League!
-
Steve Smith the Australian leg spinner played 2 games for my club about 4 years ago, bowled pants apparantly, but batted well so i am told. Got a few pics of him in the club house.
Possible future test player for England Daniel Bell-Drummond started at my club as well as a colt and still pops down ocassionally
-
Some good pros around

Steve Smith has gone down so rapidly as a cricketer. I know he was never brilliant but he's now bowling very occasional off spin as the leggies went belly up and his batting is now even more unorthodox than ever.
-
Theres a few in the northants league. Dion Ibraham used to/still does (not sure), Mal Loye is playing in it too.

Pretty sure Jason Gillespie, Devon Malcolm played for Brixworth in the Northants leagues too.
