I'm not talking about standard batting kit here. I'm talking about things that aren't part of your normal cricket gear, like gilchrist and the ping pong ball, or one of the waugh brothers and the red rag.
For me it's a bandanna. When I first got a lid at the tender age of 12, my dad bought one for me to grow into, so I had to wear a sweatband to get it to fit. Once I grew out of it, I binned the sweatband and got a perfectly fitting helmet. However something was amiss, and didn't feel right, I couldn't bat. I tried a bandanna on underneath the lid and hey presto, everything felt right in the world! I started off wearing my ayrtek without one but it never felt right, until wearing it with a bandanna today.

I usually end up with a lighter in my pocket as forget to take it out after my teatime fag.
Other than that, don't tend to go out there with any good luck charms.
*Without wanting to sound like a pedantic little so and so, it was a squash ball and I believe it was only used a few times before the press got hold of it and kicked off, and it was Steve Waugh who carried his red rag :)

Adam Gilchrist used a squash ball in his glove in the 2007 WC final.
-
It's a headband for me as well. Always used to use towelling ones but the fit under the helmet wasn't great. Got one of these last year and it's superb. No sweat in the eyes and really thin so the helmet fits great. I've become very superstitious about it. If you wear any kind of headband under your lid you should check them out.....brilliant!

Where in his glove??
And what was the point?
The only extra thing I like to have with me is some gum.....

A pack of tissues(hayfever) that doubles up as a thigh pad.

In the palm of his bottom hand, to reduce the strength of his bottom hand in shots so that he played more shots along the ground (I think)

quality thread this one
Gilchrist smashed a ton and one of his best too with that squash ball in his glove
i wear glasses so cannot bat without the 'band thing that holds them on' and i wear a headband under my lid always
fags for tea break or when the opposition have smashed it out of the ground essential
:)

I love the look of this.
I get sweat running onto my glasses and this looks like it could help a lot!
and they ship to the UK!
Oh, I never bat without a clear visualization of playing my shots. I know it's not tangible but it's critical for me.

If people are considering the sweatbands is it worth getting a few people together to save on international delivery costs?
-
Hand eye coordination
Sorry, didn't read the original post. Just the title!

Wow - I do the exact same thing. :D
Front leg - one full paper towel and back leg - half of it. :D
P.S.- I have P1 strippers just find above easier and less restrictive.
Jag.

before i couldnt go in to the field without my necklace... it used to be a certain necklace but now its just i need a necklace around my neck.. if not i go mental...
-
leooooonieeeeeee youre mental anyway just saying :)
i have to bat with a sweat band on my wrist my left one i dunno why just feels so comfy
-
Ever since wearing one, an armguard. I know this is a piece of kit, but somehow, I just feel weird batting without one. I used to be fine without one too! Never been hit there either...
-
chad ive never worn an arm guard, but im tempted to against the bowling machine i dunno why but the thought of getting hit by a rubber ball concerns me, but a cricket ball the thought doesnt bother me :s

OIIIIIIIIIII why am i mental!!???? hahah oke probably true but still!
-
I had a run last season of batting with a penny in my shoe, it fell in there and I got 78 with it in there so I left it lol
-

do i really have to justify this ;)
-
I need my jumper even on a sunny day . I feel as if it is part of my protective gear and it does help with the odd one hitting the body by softening the blow.
-
Funnily enough, I don't feel I can bat without praying beforehand as well... :-[ A habit I guess! I haven't been out for a duck as well when I have done this prior to batting, so has to be a good sign. :D
-
One of our west indian players wears a long sleeve wool jumper with windies red and yellow trim on blistering hot days when the rest of us are in half sleeves-says he cant bat without it.
Im going to start wearing a necklace !
:)

Tom I have to try the penny trick and see if it brings me any .
-
An emergency custard cream (for low blood sugar during my long innings)

Probably had nothing to do with the penny!

I wear a sweatband on my left arm. There has been the odd occasion where I forgot to put it on, and I didn't notice for a little while, but once I notice that it isn't on, it starts really play on my mind - I think it's completely ridiculous, but I just can't help it.
-
On the necklace front, there's a company called phiten that do trion-z style necklaces. Many Major League Baseball players wear them.

Pads gloves box thigh pad and lid sorry had to be done
-
Dean, you missed 'bat'
-
I open the batting and never really feel comfortable if I haven't got a cricket jumper on. Don't know why it just feels familiar ???
-
I never thought I was superstitious till i started playing cricket :(
In my early days it used to be a hand kerchief tied around my head like a sweatband, never batted without it, if i ever had to take it off I would never undo the knot and just put it in my pocket. Now I can't/don't play or feel confident without my ankle braces, I hurt my ankle 14 years ago and have always worn a brace on both feet since then even though they are fine now :o
-
For me its baselayer, I can never ever play cricket without compression on upper body.
-
I used to always chew gum while I batted bcz I got really nervous so was something to do but have stopped doing that now. I like to always wear a long sleeve top though is another one.
-
Water ! Like to pour some water on my bat grip before I go to bat and during breaks !
-
Sweatband is the only thing, though I wish there were brands that supplied sausage gloves with towelled thumbs...
Love the custard cream idea - may try it with a dairy milk bar...
-
I have no superstitions or anything like this. I'm sure that'll change when I am next on a bad run of form and make a connection between that ending and some ordinary item.

Talent

Hahahah! Thought you would have said "A crazy grip on my bat" - got to admit the talent comment made me giggle :')
-
I just realised that for the half of the season I batted with a 10 cent coin in my left shoe. When I changed shoes my form dropped dramatically.
-
I have my box in an old sock. I am extremely superstitious where cricket is concerned. I would imagine it is highly prevalent in cricket generally, the superstition part not having your box in an old sock!
-
Its all about my powerband and cheap casio watch, doesnt help me but hey

dam it, I told you, I could not move and was in the fetal position after that rather large burger, so I dont think that would help. Unless I put my legs facing the stumps and my back to the bowler meaning no LBW.
hurm could work. A lot of dot balls mind.

wow, I blame your twitter coaching skills not helping my inability to step to the ball :(.
I will do a forward roll to get a cheeky single if the wicket keeper fluffs it.
