What can't you bat without and why?
« on: February 13, 2013, 05:17:36 PM »

I'm not talking about standard batting kit here. I'm talking about things that aren't part of your normal cricket gear, like gilchrist and the ping pong ball, or one of the waugh brothers and the red rag.

For me it's a bandanna. When I first got a lid at the tender age of 12, my dad bought one for me to grow into, so I had to wear a sweatband to get it to fit. Once I grew out of it, I binned the sweatband and got a perfectly fitting helmet. However something was amiss, and didn't feel right, I couldn't bat. I tried a bandanna on underneath the lid and hey presto, everything felt right in the world! I started off wearing my ayrtek without one but it never felt right, until wearing it with a bandanna today.

I usually end up with a lighter in my pocket as forget to take it out after my teatime fag.

Other than that, don't tend to go out there with any good luck charms.

*Without wanting to sound like a pedantic little so and so, it was a squash ball and I believe it was only used a few times before the press got hold of it and kicked off, and it was Steve Waugh who carried his red rag :)

Adam Gilchrist used a squash ball in his glove in the 2007 WC final.

It's a headband for me as well. Always used to use towelling ones but the fit under the helmet wasn't great. Got one of these last year and it's superb. No sweat in the eyes and really thin so the helmet fits great. I've become very superstitious about it. If you wear any kind of headband under your lid you should check them out.....brilliant!

Where in his glove??
And what was the point?
The only extra thing I like to have with me is some gum.....

A pack of tissues(hayfever) that doubles up as a thigh pad.

In the palm of his bottom hand, to reduce the strength of his bottom hand in shots so that he played more shots along the ground (I think)

Gilchrist smashed a ton and one of his best too with that squash ball in his glove
i wear glasses so cannot bat without the 'band thing that holds them on' and i wear a headband under my lid always
fags for tea break or when the opposition have smashed it out of the ground essential

I love the look of this.
I get sweat running onto my glasses and this looks like it could help a lot!

and they ship to the UK!

Oh, I never bat without a clear visualization of playing my shots. I know it's not tangible but it's critical for me.

If people are considering the sweatbands is it worth getting a few people together to save on international delivery costs?

Wow - I do the exact same thing. :D
Front leg - one full paper towel and back leg - half of it. :D

P.S.- I have P1 strippers just find above easier and less restrictive.

I use the Halo 2 bands and they are perfect. Life changing in fact! I converted the Hosk in the summer and I think he's got some as well....
