Title: My Custom LAMS from bb (Pics & brief review)
Post by: shoab68 on February 17, 2013, 07:55:33 PM
Hi Guys,

My first post on this forum. Yesterday i received my custom made LAMS from bb. Little annoyed with the service of bb guys as these bats were expected to arrive long back but at the end happy that Taimoor from bb called me and cooperated a lot. Aside from this delay i am happy to deal with bb and really satisfied with the bats. Bat 2 got little damage in transit but it is on the back so i am not complaining. I am posting few pics with a brief review.

SPECS                                 BAT 1                  BAT 2

Weight                                 2.10 lbs               2.11 lbs
Blade length                          1 inch short          1.5 inch short
Handle length                        1 inch long            1.5 inch long
Middle                                  Mid to low             Mid to low
Edges at peak                       40 mm                  40 mm
Concaving                            very less               No concaving
Ping                                    Amazing                Amazing
Pick up                                light                      medium to light
Balance                               perfect                  90%

My Rating

BB service:   7/10
Ping of bats: 10/10
Balance : 10/10 for Bat 1 and 9/10 for Bat 2
Pick-up : 10/10 for Bat 1 and 9/10 for Bat 2
Finishing: 9/10 for both bats

Both bats are fantastic bats. Bat 1 with 7 reasonably straight grains and Bat 2 have 8 very straight grains. I bounced a ball on both the bats to check the ping and both bats surprised me with the amazing rebound. I have given a light coat of oil to both bats and would start them knocking after 2 days. I am sure that after proper knocking and with full preparation the ball would definitely fly off these bats.

Would update further after giving a few nets session.

All queries and criticism welcome.
Trying to upload few pics.

Nice looking bats shoab, im sure they will serve you well.
As laminates are hard to source and take a little longer to make (having had to wait for several before myself), I think you should take that into account regarding delivery times etc.

Question for those who have too much time on their hands - Does applying linseed oil have an effect on the bond between the lamination? You are told not to oil near the splice for this very reason, why should it be any different for a laminate?
Discuss..........

having seen these bats in the flesh i can safely say these bats are up there with any bat i've seen

The reason bat 2 picks up slightly heavier is purely because of the shorter blade/longer handle combination

Really glad your pleased with the bats

Thanks for the review

Thanks mate. You are right about delays in production but how about transit time of 16 days.

Regarding oiling these LAMS, point to be noted, i am little worried now because oil already applied, don't know if it affects the bond between lamination. Would appreciate if any expert gives some tips.

To be honest, I would gift Bat 1 to my best friend, keeping that in mind i ordered 2.

16 days transit time really annoyed me. Taimoor telephone calls really helped in keeping patience. Aside from delayed delivery, i am happy and love these bats. Little heavy pickup bat is for me, no worries, i am used to play with little heavy pickup bats. You are right, in flesh these are real beauties and ping is amazing.

Don't worry about the oil. The oil only affects the animal/ hide glue that was used in the splice. Most poeple use PVA glue these days which doesn't react with linceed oil.

Thank God you didn't ask about it's 'ping' from what I have heard AK-47 go extremely well right from start! :D

Thanks Uzair, Yeah after a long wait finally got them. I bought these LAMS only for the enhanced ping so checked straight away the ping and both bats pings superbly. Ping wise I would rate these bats far ahead from rest of my collection including Laver Signature, Scats etc etc.

The Customs go easy over here in UAE otherwise i would've paid a hefty amount for customs reason being BB guys mentioned the actual amount in Invoice but luckily i was not charged customs at all. I think reason for delay was parcelforce poor postal service, nothing else. Normally i am receiving my parcels from UK on 3rd day.

Are Laminated bats legal ?  I read that the cricket bat are supposed to be made of single piece of wood to be legal.

I watched him playing for Abudhabi Gymkhana, it was a 50 overs match played at Sharjah cricket Stadium, he opened the innings and scored a superb hundred, he is a terrific batsman.

Laminated bats are being banned by ICC, however, it depends what level you are playing, i play at least level so am fine with LAMS.

Quick update on my both bb bats, after knocking them well and few net sessions me and my friend played with them in a match last Sunday. These bats performed really well, we hit some huge sixes, really impressed with these ones and are my favorite bats now.

So if I turn up to a normal Saturday slog, and the dude (or dudette) has one of these things.... Can't he be asked/told not to use it??? (Assume there are league umpires and the league is affiliated to the ECB etc)

Why just the perms?? Surely anyone with league umpires should be able too? I can understand if teams don't have umpires it's harder  it luckily I've not had those types of games (Saturdays) for years

its not a grade b bat its just illegal full stop should not be used in any game that falls under the ECB rules.

but no body is going to pull u up for a tk face lam as the joins are impossible to see unless u pick up and inspect the bat

He can, but you need to have match officials who are aware of the rules to make this work.

Haha, well said. One should middle the ball with good timing to clear the fence whether using LAM or normal bat. :)
