Title: Visit to TON Warehouse to hand pick 2013 range (Photos Added)
Post by: Uzi Sports on February 21, 2013, 07:28:32 PM
I have just returned after spending nearly whole day at the SS/TON warehouse to hand pick our 2013 range. Too tired at the moment to take any photos but I will take some tomorrow.  Also met a Essex First team player who came to pick up his bats. Overall good day but tiring.

Here  are the photos of some bats:

i'll show u the photos and you can then decide
I honestly don't decide on grains as there were few bats which had around 13-14 grains but performance was not good enough for me to select them

i think it was Tim Philips, had a good discussion with him and he asked me to help him select some bats. He has promised that he will visit our shop with other players when they come to play against Glos

well the range is expansive compared to last years SS. I have taken very few from top of the range, most are from mid range, 309 Rock, Power Blaster, 2 Gladiators and few LEs. That pro wanted both my Gladiators but I quickly put these away in my car.
Checking each bat is very time consuming and left few which were good but I had to stop myself taking any more...

Regards

Asad

Whats the difference between the TON labelled bats and the SS labelled bats?
One has horrible stickers, te other has really horrible stickers!

I wonder when will the Asian brands realise that minimal is better when it come to their decals?

Look at the blades not the stickers very nice...

I'm biased though I do like ss I do not mind the stickers but the quality of the bats is more to my liking I suspect there as same as usual asad.

Totally agree with that too, quality sticks. The SS ive got/had is a great bat. Just the branding is really not geared towards the english market in my opinion. Complete opposite of Salix, Newbery etc in terms of stickers. And stickers are a big factor for many people

Salix or Newbery are not big players though and not indicative of the English market  though
Kookaburra a major player and stickers cover similar amount as other Asian brands yes I do no there mainly Indian made too.

Good point and worthy I suspect so a big company as sareen could do better.

My gripe with sareen this year are the prices unfortunately and there not set by asad to a degree

Its not the size of the stickers I dont like, people like GN, Slaz and Kookaburra as you mentioned have large stickers, but they all look better designed, classier and less brash. The SS just look a bir tacky really. Which is a shame as they are good quality bats.

Havent really looked at the prices, as I just think the brands on here offer more for your money, so probably wont get another SS

SS bats are quality. I have not had a single dud bat from SS. However, I am disappointed to see their pricing this year.

I would rather spend £300/£350 on a top end - custom made Salix or GN or a Puma. Also it is easier to shift Salix, Puma and GN bats and these retain muchore of their original value than SS.

However, the bigger problem with SS is that all their models have similar/very similar profiles, so not much options on middle position etc.

They only confuse buyers with having 10 different models with same profile but different grades of willow..

Yeah the range seems a bit confusing. A lot of options and not too much explanation of the difference between them...

Im not sure what the difference in grades and models are but every single model  of Asads TON bats have tight and straight grains.

I currrently own two SS bats and I agree they all seem to have really nice grains. However, I think in the last four years I have noticed that the best value for the money is their Limited Edition bat. The profile of SS bats almost looks all the same. The other bat that they made for a few years and now do not  is the SS gold editions if you can find one of those at decent price we had four on my team and everyone of them was absoloutly fantastic. These bats definitly have been some of my favorites. I just feel that I need to buy diffrent types of bats and now I am all into custom bats.

I have currently 2 mate both different shaped from the current standard profile.

One is the old gold profile it was a platium reserve the other is a custom made thingy for somebody else but fits ok.

It a shame there prices I know asad and other retailers do there best though

I noticed that the prices in U.K are unblievbale on those bats. you can purchase those here in the U.S for a whole lot less.  Is there a reason why? or is it just due to the availability.

US market either hasn't caught up yet, or TON in the UK is selling with a premium on top.

I must say the high end bats are rather expensive. The Power Blaster and Power Play are very good value though, lovely straight even grains, little/no blemishes and both bats are under £140

Agree with that mate there some good lower end models around that look no different to the top models mate.

In your opinion is there much in the mallet tests either??

Haven't done too much tapping up with the TON bats as we only got the majority of them today. The Gladiators are something special, but then again, they should be for the price.

We have a particular Power Play that I made a topic about that picks up and taps up very nicely, can't ask for much more for £120 really.

I got a Heritage from Asad last year and for a low end its stood up massively well. Looked better than some grade 1's or player editions too ;)

Yeah i used a special edition bat which turned out better then my matrix and platinum bat. So some of those lower range bats maybe a steal.
