I've been wanting to wake a T20 style bat for a while now so decided to give it a go last weekend.
I noticed that one of the clefts i picked up had a crack at the top which i thought would cut out in a standard length blade but it didn't. This made it the perfect candidate to become my first T20 bat. I've dropped the shoulders by around 1.5 inch and also reduced the width of the blade to 4 inch.

First thing that needed to be done after splicing and cutting the shoulders was to repair the crack.

So i decided to cut out as much of the crack i could.

Then i had to cut some spare willow to fit.

Once nice and tight i glued with some animal glue.

Then once dry i trimmed with the bandsaw before shaping with the drawknife.

Looks good ryan. What are the final specs?
-
Looks good mate. One question for u? What made u cut out the crack? Would it not have been better to glue it and then once shaped the bidding to the handle adding more strength? Just wondered if cutting out the damage weakens the shoulder more than a repair would have to the crack.
-
Top stuff mate!! How many clefts you got in atm ;)

40mm edges 60mm spine 2.11 i think

Nice work Ryan and pretty willow . I have reduced the shoulder on a bat similarly but a bit unsure about the length of the splice being shorter would increase strain on it.
-
Have to let us how that goes Ryan, looks like it'll be a cannon lol.
-
Toe 18mm
Shoulder 18mm
Edges 40mm
Spine 55mm
Handle length around 330mm
Blade length around 520mm
Weight around 2.11.6oz haven't weighed it since gripped.
Anything else nick? Inside leg measurement or anything?

The only reason i cut the cracked section out was because it had bits missing and wanted to stop the crack from continuing down the blade. The top of the bat gets subjected to a lot of vibration so thought it was a safer bet.

essentially got a laminated shoulder so should be very strong up there as well?
looks a top bat mate, hope she serves you well :)
-
I'm sure she'll be ok, i'm going to have a bash with her tomorrow - see what happens.
-
great work mate. quick question: is this bat 'laminated', as in is this bat legal?

Technically yes, but as its been repaired so I don't think it comes under that type (type B).

And - with the greatest respect - probably won't end up turning the tide in a T20 international! Unless you're really the other Ryan from Yorkshire ;) Really like this one, mate. You've definitely found your own signature style now. Pretty sure I could pick one of yours 'blank' out of a bin-full.

Defiantly no chance of it being used in a prem game never mind an international :D
Cheers mate, love to see some more of your work!

Still don't know how to use photobucket! I'll try again.

Cracked it!
Here's the latest one out of the door from Phesmar Cricket. Going to our 1st XI keeper and one of our top run scorers. If he gets on with it, hopefully I'll get a few more orders!

Angry Birds?

Angry Birds?
They'll need a pig on the ball!
Great job Ryan, have you managed to have a hit with it yet? I like what you did with the shoulder, looks really neat! 8)

Going for more of an art nouveau feel than angry birds thanks :p
