Well what a day i have had me and my new club chairman went to B3 after months of promising i finally got down there to pick a bat.
The bat later but first there hospitality was first class they even took us for lunch before we purchased anything and if anybody knows more about the industry than Russell i'am yet to meet them.
Now the bat i mentioned i heard a whisper about a certain International player using B3 which in truth they where not willing to give away but then led me to this bat and said have a look yes there a initial on the handle and yes it is a certain shape and i asked if i could purchase it they agreed as it was rejected for a handle issue the said player did not like.
The bat is simply massive i know we always talk about massive but this truly is the shoulder is bigger than most of my bats biggest edge point it is crazy and guess what the weight is a little under 2-9 and a half...
The finish on the b3 has imporved so much it like a different bat finish wise than the first production bat i bought from them i would say it as good if not better than salix it is that good.
Bat Stats
B3 CROWN "The best of the Best" although the stickers are not finished or out yet so just a 3 stripe bespoke in livery.
Weight 2-9 1/2
Handle Oval
Grains 10
edge at shoulder 26mm
edge at maximum 34mm
spine 64mm
Concaving not a touch at all.........
Inital Rebound Great only word i can think of
Pictures to Follow
Also i have mentioned Russell i must also mention Streaky a bloody top bloke who knows he stuff and is also good fun and i have visited a few makers but never had the service like i did there.
I did not get discount as many will suspect i paid what anybody else who goes there pay's before there any mention of what i paid and whatnot...
-
So, will it be sent for a weight reduction?
-
No because it the most balanced bat i have ever held it feels lighter than my other b3
-
Get the pictures up Dave. It's a beast! !

sorry my pictures are not great but it is a bloody beast
-
That's a belter mate, my kind of bat looks a beast - finish is superb
-
Haha not hard to work out who this was made for. My favourite shape, just can't afford the model his old sponsor made.
-
It not just the bat i have been to many places regarding cricket equipment them boys know more than most of us and there bloody passionate not just about money but also about there equipment and other people equipment, they talk about any brand and praise them all in different degrees there morals are as high as it gets and there customer assurance and help is without doubt a breath of fresh air it good to see a brand so open and honest.
I tell you this even if your not 100 per cent looking into buying something go in there have a look ask questions them guys are the real deal for sure.
I know they don't sponsor the forum and to sponsors please forgive me but they are genuine decent cricket chaps who sell Top end gear
-
The gloves dont look top end, haha!
There gloves are top end trust me on that so are the pads i just didn't like the style the metrails used are very top end...
Russell had done GM soft's for over 20 years nobody i know knows more about it than him..
-
Looks a beaut Dave, surpising how massive that toe is

Top shot
-
I have had bats made for Albie Morkel before this bat is different Gravy
-
Jonathan Trott lad? ;)
I think everyone knew, I don't think someone needed to put it in writing!
-
Nice interview Dave, ;)
-
Never heard anyone sound so like Jason Manford ;)
-
bloody hell could have told me why hair looked like wurzal gommidge i see what your talking about.
-
Will there be any out-takes?
-
one last stat toe at widest point is 32mm
-
Stunner davey boy, hope she goes well for you, I bet the balance with the shoulders being so thick will be outstanding. If you don't get along with this one I'll give you £5 and a wispa :)
-
Very nice indeed, love the shape simple but obviously effective if you rate the balance so highly
Very tempted by B3 for my next bat
-
The science behind it i found fascinating and even if your after information ref bats, clefts, weight to size ratio there good people to talk to i need to stop i can't speak highly of them they do still have there 15 per cent discount on not sure if has run out or not but i don't think it has.
There cricketing stories about some of the greats of the game which they have meet, played, made for is amazing and for badgers like me it just a good trip made great.
-

Very tempted by B3 for my next bat
never thought you'd use a CNC made bat mate!
-
those are some thick shoulders on this lovely bat
If you don't mind telling - How much did the bat cost ?
-
And why would you not share this video
B3 customer review (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRfXFwChsVE#ws)
-
'This is a serious piece of wood'
-
that's a monster bat for the size. Love the profile too without any concaving and distribution of wood through out the blade. I can see how with this shape the bat picksup so well.
-
For someone who's just bought a nice stick you don't look very happy Dave mate :) haha
-
Procricket does not look how I imagined at all.
-
Procricket does not look how I imagined at all.
I was expecting a grizzled old man :) nice bat Dave.
-
I always pictured him as a cross between
(http://i2.listal.com/image/1846186/600full-my-profile.jpg)
and
(http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0563384824.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)
No offense meant Dave, as I love both of the above ;)
-
What you all expected what somebody called me last night a skinny hobbit.
I not as short or Thin as people think but then again I not exactly big either
I look a bit pissed off because I was cold and tired was a 4am start for me.
I am a old fart though scares and all.
I'm not that bloody old streaky if you read this your broke my copyright
-
Are you ignorning me Dave, I've pm'd you three times now lol ;)

The second bat on the right the springs on the handle don't look straight ? Or is it the picture angle?
-
slightly out mate and the angle bud...
-
Haha that's amazing. Good chunk
-
That handle is very chunky/high at the bottom, how does it feel?
-
It not my normal fair mate but it will not be a worry as shown in the video i do have big hands and love the feel of it mate.
Had a few little wofts today the pick up is great the feel is for sure different.
The best thing is the pick up performance feel great but this bat is very different from my normal shape but sometimes it good to try something new and nice to have no concaving for a change..
The last time i changed my major bat shape was when i went with laver in 2008 i went to concaving.
It takes a very lot for me to part with over 300 quid a very lot....
-
Very similar size and profile to a GM Player Edition Epic.
Looks a top stick mate, very nice.
-
Looking down from the handle in those pics the shape seems very 'tour-ish'. But the size to that RK is rediculous
-
weight of bats left to right
larsons 2-10 gripped
slazenger 2-7 ungripped
b3 crown 2-9.4 gripped
b3 custom 2-8.2 gripped
rk le 2-8 ungripped
largest part of shoulder is 44mm..
I saw one other one of these there it was the initial trial bat in a lesser grade if anybody wanted one
-
I'd definitely want it! Do you know how much it was?
-
No mate i did't bud but i know they have a discount on or did 15 per cent on i did not know what stripe it was or anything mate like mine it had no sticker on..
I wish i had become a player agent for them but i love so much kit i decided it wasn't for me but if you get in touch with them either via twitter or website they will help you..
-
Looks like a Purist with fat edges. I love it so much. Next bat. It will be. This.
-
What do you think I'd call it?
-
B3 Crown bat mate or the bat in the customer review bud...
or 1271 if your talking to streaky
-
Nice looking bat.
Can someone walk me though the benefits of having so much wood high up the bat? It is an interesting change compared to bats like the Laver Ultra that attempt to take as mch wood away from that area.
-
It takes the weight up the bat mate closer to the hands and giving a better balance and pick up mate as i have said bud this picks up better than my offset edged b3 bud 2oz lighter
-

Interesting. So taking your bat and thinning down the first third of the bat and in doing so dropping the weight by 2oz would make it pick up heavier?
-
in theory because it further away from your power mass (hands and arms)hence lower middle bats tend but not always pick up heavier depends where the center of mass and other mass in relation.
if that made sense
2oz is theoretical as well it hard to imagine weight or it is for me but it picks up better than some of my lighter bats.
Also the pendiloum sp theory .
:DBIG WORDS

Well it's interesting, I'll give you that. For sure seen some pros using the same idea. I'd like to play with the idea and work out if (for me) those extra couple of ounces are better served high up the blade, or removed completely.
-
Better people can answer it better than me mate
-
Top day out Dave and like you said great genuine guys. Be getting a bat sorted with them as soon as I get my other one back from M&H. Slept for ages yesterday. Did you get in trouble with the Mrs?
-
Yes the act of riot was defiantly read mate 14 hour cricket day
-
Christ on a bike I thought my new B3 was a beast - that is epic, what a bat! For what it's worth to everyone, I echo what dave says about the service and the B3 guys; 10/10.
I told Streaky I'd be back - it may be for a '1271'!
Top, top bat Dave, I don't need to wish it well, that thing will get you runs, carry you to bed and bring you a hot chocolate...
and I even like the colours... :D
-
Been knocking it in possibly for 3 hours so far it going to be a belter for sure in every respect.
It going to have a little run out very soon
Shame there no bat off's I could let a few have a hit with it
-
Are you coming along Sunday then pal?
-
Yes I think I will mate you can buy some kit bud :D
-
Yes I think I will mate you can buy some kit bud :D
Good mate! Will be good to catch up with you :)
-
Used this today I not going to bore you it is as good as you get feels strange to start with because you don't feel any jarring or anything it feels like no matter where you hit it it just feels like you caress the ball and get no response bat the net rippling as another ball flys.
Was in top gear today bar the little injury this and the other b3 helped me hit the ball very hard today was strange the heavier weight at first but made me play straighter although it does pick up very similar
I even liked the oval handle I felt the size I had more control yet less fidgit if that makes sense
My older b3 looks battered it moving up the gears and starting to gain little surface cracks
Sorry if I boring people with my tales of this bat but it getting used thought I would share my views.
Defiantly different sound than most bats I have used and the handle feels stiffer than a laver with a rod...
Very strange but nice crisp crunch but no feel :D

Sounds just like the GM Epic Player Edition that I was talking to you about mate. I love that feeling, just like a perfect tee shot with my Cobra driver.
-
By all accounts it went vey well today I think the 2 lads I lent it to liked it funny bat I have never in my life picked up a lighter bat in any weight
It seemed to go well as well I might get to use it soon still using my other b3
I think it picks up at about 2-5 ish
-
well after having a hit with this "amazing" bat, I can definitely say im gonna contact B3 very soon for one, when I get some money together! The bat picked up very very well for a 2'9 felt lighter than my harrow GN nitro :o
Performance wise it was very good....when I actually middled one haha!
Cant thank dave enough for giving me a chance to use such a great bat!
One last thing the shoulders are like the edges on my salix....its insane!
Thanks for bringing it today Dave!
-
I had a great time thanks to your 2 hospitality in letting me have a net with you guys.
-
I had a great time thanks to your 2 hospitality in letting me have a net with you guys.
Ahh thats not to worry mate! Glad you enjoyed it as much as we did!
-
Fantastic bat, with an outstanding pick up and weight distribution, I know what Dave mean's about when you hit it you don't feel a thing. If you don't get on with it give me a shout Dave, ill take it off your hands!
-
I have hit about 5 balls with it maybe I will try it out soon
-
Can I call shotgun of first refusal?
-
Can I call shotgun of first refusal?
No, sorry, I have :D
-
ahhh thats a bummer I was just about to ask for first dibs haha! :'( :D
-
Hold on I have not used it yet rightly yet...
-
They had another one available when I got mine last week.
Apparently it was 2.11 but going by the comments and the feel of mine that shouldn't feel too heavy.
-
I have seen that bat as well was next to my one
-
Bat now used in a game a 65 off 80 balls
Well it has changed my perception of what I thought I wanted in a bat which I guess is a good thing.
My normal bats normally are heavily concaved and always have a round handle this bat is the very contrast and I have seen a difference and value for runs is a testament for the shape.
Don't get me wrong this is a special bat and better than the average bat for the weight as it made from the best of the best willow in terms of weight ratio but I found the profile more forgiving even a miss times drive flew over cover where a week before with the lighter more concaved bat it certainly wouldn't have done.
Yes I was in much better form this week than the other and that certainly helped me score freely but the bat was strange it felt strange due to the changes and I hadn't even netted with it properly until I used it in a match.
It simple is a great bat pick up as others can testify is ridiculous the weight in the hitting area which is in truth most of the bat.
The volume I wood is around the equavilat to a 3-1oz bat so I guess it is kind of special and the coverage is amazing glad I gave it a whirl and will be using it for the season..
It was not obviously custom to me bun I suspect it will be a shape I will be copying I just hope I can get the same quality of willow again.
I guess it makes all my other bats redundant
-
Old news but this bat has changed my thoughts on bats massively
I can no longer use round handles or concaved profiles including the first b3 I got and I am finding the added 3 oz from normal manageable and the process of the fuller bat with smaller edges but a bigger profile much better.
It has the biggest oval handle but I have netted and netted with this bat to get used to it and boy I have it been quite a time I have confidence in a bat like this one.
Shows pre conceptions can change about bats mine have.
I have been using concaved bats for around 7 to 8 years I know for now I will not be using them anymore
-
I guess it makes all my other bats redundant
Time for Dave's Big Bat Sale?
-
Time for Dave's Big Bat Sale?
given he needs a decent pair of trainers and money for the Laver, I think it's more than likely :-)
-
No mate truth is yes I would like the laver to look at but nothing even comes close to the trott bat I have let a couple of people use it in the indoor nets I guess they might agree it a bloody top bat in every sense.
I know there through experiance this bat is the real deal pick up and everything my b3 this one is a once in a lifetime bat
I have already given away 2 bats to club mates never one to hoard I like to use not look at and you can only use one at a time :D
For me I guess I have the best for me in this bat
Given the actual weight and science it should be around 3-2oz for the wood but no.
That's density that's a pro cleft
-
The bat is simply too heavy for me
Had 4 innings with it one 65 and 3 low scores and all 3 beaten for pace and bowled with unlike last season only bowled 2 times all season.
I love the bat it is a work of art but now it not correct (yes Alvaro Steve I should have listened) I late and struggling hooking pulling horizontal shots and know it not right the 65 was on a slow wicket against medium pacers
What do I do with it is my question.
Streaky has said they do what they can to whittle it down to a manageable weight
Sell it as it is pretty special not sure whittling it down might lose it quality a tad
Or frame it due to it heritage and although I have other made for and used by this one is special
.
Yes I have my other b3 with is going great guns and is a great bat..
What to do ??
-
Sell it Davey boy. Give someone the chance to use it to it's fullest
-
SHOTGUN!
-
I love the bat I really do it more crunchier than my other b3 which is a gun but feel it just too heavy I went there and jumped on the uniqueness of it it is a bloody weapon
-
Personally I would sell it (to me maybe?) and free up money for another bat.
-
I think that due to the pure unique factor of the bat mate, it deserves to be used, and you should sell it to someone :). Looks a smashing bat, and I'm sure you could get near enough back what you paid for it
-
I'm going to go against the others and suggest you get some weight taken off by B3. Nothing lost, nothing gained. It's the only way you'll know if it's a weapon because of the weight or the design of the bat itself.
And if anybody else wants one, it sounds like B3 has the willow and processes to make something just as special. So look after yourself first Dave.
-
The greatness of b3 is they can reproduce anything including this as they have done already.
Yes it special willow but having seen some of there clefts not too long ago they surely had more intact I think I saw the same number (they give number to clefts) which would make the same bat time after time.
Maybe your right smokem
-
Im going down b3 tomorrow on a whirlwind tour to see what's what and might pick up a pair of pads as well if they got hobbit size in.
-
Back to b3 today and the jt bat is altered and in a way it hard to tell bar the pick up the feel is the same and the staff cheers streaky and the master bat maker gav top lad who did a great Job.
Also saw another England players bats today bit heavy at 2-14 or I would have got one and some lovely lovely clefts in.
Also got to have a tap around with a serious sareen there from another international player bat there for copying it was exceptional but the copies where top top class.
Great blokes there and a great service pictures to follow
So 2 out of England 11 players are using b3 and various others getting re stickered sounds like there making cracking bats
-
They took some out around the splice are and also near the toe to give it a bit more of a curve it was a very straight bat before

It is now 2lb 7oz and as you see still massive and the balance is still top draw they did a great job...
-
Nice one Dave! It's still go plenty of wood there so looks like she'll still have plenty of go.
Out of interest, how did they actually lighten the bat - still using CNC? So do they have your new profile stored as a CNC program? ;)
-

Nope this is where all bases where covered by b3 the podshaver took over but the bat can be mapped for future bats
Plenty of wood still has as much wood as a 2-12 bat in according to wood mass so overall happy.
-
Well glad to say no ill effects and no real loss of any coverage of the middle Gav the Podshaver really did come out and get the weight down without troubling the coverage of the middle or any blance issues.
Got to say when you hit the ball it stays hit with this bat it has become my favourite bat very very quickly it has finally succeeded the fabled one
Just goes to show modern techniques with good old fashioned skills can work together I thank Gav for a great job and the doctor for rigging it up....
-
damn, was hoping it would be for sale soon :P glad its going well for you mate, any pics after the reduction?
-
They are just above the last few posts mate thats the reduction it mad it weight is 2-7.4 and the shear size.
-
After seeing the JT in the flesh I've got to agree with Dave that its a cracking bat and a gorgeous shape - shame I wouldn't do the bat justice if it was in my hands out in the middle.
-
You will chris lad keep plugging mate the runs will come bud
-
Well used it yesterday top edged a quick into my lid my lid peak is split and the jt b3 crown has a massive compression dint/crack on the leading shoulder mid way up.
What a bat it is the other first ever B3 got a lot of attention of a few people may need to return to maker for a fix or a quick bit of tape over the edge.
The 3 crown is going very very well indeed so is the custom
-
Sounds like you need an Ayrtek. My B3 has received so many limes that two of my teammates are getting one made to the same shape. Pete's Trott B3is marvellous .
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
-
Ah Pete ones do look nice we nearly swapped for one i have not seen his 1271 version though the 2 i have seen one was Roco the other one Yash i guess Yash is close to the 1271 profile.
Glad i think there very good bats
-
Well half a seasons use got to say this bat has replaced my pb and become my one and only bat i use.
After rebalance I have total confidence with this bat it is great I get current pictures up it has cracked a touch and the face seems to have for flatter.
The only sad thing about getting real top draw is I don't look for any more
Not even my other b3 gets any look in this bat is that good
-
Dave, good to hear the weight reduction worked out so well. It was definitely worth the gamble and you've got a beauty but now at the right weight. Nice one mate!
-
have been thinking of get a b3 for a while, this is a real tempter.
-
Played last night a little chip came out of my bat in the middle of the toe
Sorry to bore people pictures to follow

Worked out around 600 runs through it it started to crack left right and centre especially in the middle' maybe i not as bad as i though
-
Nah don't look too bad. Maybe get some tape round it like Patel does. Mines got cracks all over the middle( I must have a great defence
-
It strange since my old Laver i never settled on a bat until this one it nice to see a bat mature for once i don't like tape on my bat i see them as battle marks..
-
It does make the bat look a bit untidy but its All about keeping the bat in one piece.
-
Looks like you aren't hitting the middle enough Dave, looking at where those cracks are ;)
-
Trotts bat yesterday had a massive crack across the middle!! Must be the dodgy shape ;)
-
That's his last remaining Other brand bat designed by the same though.
-
is this the same profile as the m&h master? (before the weight reduction)
-
No mate
Also to add this is simple the best and biggest bat for it weight I have ever had
Even better than my old pb
-
Swung by B3 on Friday to pick up a raffle bat for my club and picked up a Trott bat stickered up ready to go - at 2.10 I've never seen such a huge piece of willow the entire length of the blade! The low density willow does allow for so much wood, of course at a price premium but wow!
-
My ending story on this bat.
What a bat it the only bat I use and has stopped me buying any other bat since I has been rebalanced and I'm glad to say I have used in all but 2 innings this season so far 5 games to go.
As some of you are aware I had a private bin which all bats where judged on I now realise that since the pb I was never happy and comftable with any bat hense the buying too many bats.
This bat beats the private bin I'm not hundred per cent sure it last half as long as that bat and it taken me a tad bit of time to ween me off a carbo core handle but to put this bat in context.
When I go to hit the ball it goes. It gives me confidence because of the design allows for the middle of the bat is nearly the whole bat. It is a massive peice of wood to allow those off middle shots to also go to the boundary. In short this bat gives me confidence and although at first I was unsure of the shape even the massive oval handle I has become like a slipper.
I have found my new gun bat in one respect it has dulled my taste for bats because I doubt I will find better for me
-
Good stuff Dave, glad it's gone well for you.
-
I know procricket says he isn't being paid by B3 but oh my gosh I've never read such a promotional thread - there are about 20 posts from him about how great they are in different respects!
Looks a lovely bat though...
-
Because I use them mate look at my other posts as usual you will see a variety of brands including a future ds preview mate.
Truth is I have used many bats and settled I this one and as no many know about B3 on here an there not I here I thought I would show people what they do hope that's ok with you mate
They are good as well they offer something not many do at all as well but I do use many other brands
Plus I guess being there 1st customer and also actually using a bat for longer than a couple of innings like a few I thought it be interesting
Which brand you associated with currently punter ?? Blenheim ??
I'm a customer who values quality like i did with laver if something is good it deserves credit.

Fair enough. I think people do know about them - I've read a few posts about their gear, but it is always good to have honest reviews, especially about new up and coming companies.

I don't think Dave is getting promotional about the B3 brand - he's simply a passionate bloke who is excited about a brand and bat that is ideally suited to his style!
I had a similar crown grade b3 Trott which was an absolute gun, and I rated extremely highly compared to even my best bats!
But for me there are a few other bats that suit my game better, so I eventually swapped it with a friend as I wasn't using it!
Even though it wasn't the perfect bat for me, I can honestly understand why Dave loves it!!

As most bats dont get a long life on here though i bring up my bat again as you do had it first sand by myself not too much damage for 800 runs through this one. The original one had 250 through it bar a little crack in the toe and some light surface cracks around the middle( yes i must have had a lot of throw downs).
Great bat weight without stickers and grip 2-4

All bats I see and pick up are rated against this this is my benchmark

Another gorgeous bat!
The crown cleft is something really special.
Is this still your match bat?
-
I only have 2 bats well bar the little cupboard with the Pintu and a KG in there.
Yes it going to get used till it runs out of gas or breaks.
My other B3 there first ever production bat has only had 4 run outs because of the quality of this bat.
Both bats are going down to B3 for finishing touches ready for the new season with another possible addition if the wife gets the sales pitch.
My 2 have saved me money i have not bought any other bats...

Are they just nasty looking cracks or is it starting to delaminate mate?
-
The crust is starting to come away mate for sure used half a season scuff and half natural.
Going to get it scuffed and have a similar process to Micheal Clarke bat
India took a lot out of my bats I found with the heat and hard balls

I'm a big fan of those handles.

Does look like a lovely bat. I've often been tempted by a B3 but not had a dabble as yet!
