A mate of mine gave me his old bats to use them however I want and they look decent pieces of timber. What model in the range would the Select model have been?
-
According to the back of the Slaz catalogue (one of only a few who state their grading in black and white)
V12 - Grade 1+
Ultimate - Grade 1+
Elite - Grade 1
V6 - Grade 2
Pro - Grade 2
Test - Grade 3
Ultra - Grade 4
Select - Grade 4
-
This is going back a few years when they were made in England and don't look grade 4 haha

Yes. Can't get some pictures as they're here in my room
-
I had a V100 select (i think it was a V100) and i am pretty sure it would have been mid range as i wasn't paying for my gear at the time, cheers dad.
-
Haha fair enough. Certainly don't look bottom of the range
Cheers

V600 has 7 straight, even grains. V1200 has 9 straight even grains

I think there was also a Super in there.

And a Pro.

I remember there were many iterations of it. At one point in time I remember something like the below, some of which can be seen in the vintage bats thread.
Panther
Super
Select
Ultimate
But you could also get your hands on a 5 star and a County. I'm pretty sure the County designation was a 70s grading and the 5 star I think was eighties. I don't remember seeing the Pro.
-
Pro was used in the mid-late 90's when Stewart, Hick and Ramps used them.

Right. Maybe we're all barking up the wrong tree.
I remember the Panther generally had a poly coat, I had a Super V12 in 1992, and I wonder if it was actually, in the late eighties/early nineties:
Panther
Super
Select
5*

I think we really need to see the V1200!

It was:
Ultimate
Pro
Supreme
Select
Super
Panther
I had the V800 Supreme which was grade 2 willow with orange stickers.
Absolutely love the older slazenger stickers.

I'm wondering if any of you guys can advice if this is a fake or original Slazenger V1200. Looks like a decent bat if it's original.
Cheers

What makes you question whether it is genuine or not?
where did you get it from
-
I saw this online on a website called trademe (it's like ebay). I don't know much about the old Slazenger stickers, hence the doubt. Cheers
-
I'd say genuine, dount there were many fake stickers around at the time when these bats were in prominence, fairly old Slazenger model
-
Is this the top end slazenger bat back in the days? it's selling for 50 NZD (25 pounds) I guess.
-
Those are the stickers that Mark Richardson used circa 2004.

i think you're right, although i'm sure the stickers were silver/ grey?
-
No profile shot of the V12 - I take it it's not a 'proper' one!

Yes - he used a V6, but the style is the same.
-
Huge thread resurrection this, but does anyone know if Panther was Kashmir willow or Slazenger's top of the range at the time?
-
Kashmir rubbish
-
Cheers Kulli. No fence-sitting there! :D
I do find it kind of puzzling that they take the Panther, Slazenger's brand's logo, and use it to denote their lowest quality product.
If anything, they should use it as a grade to denote the very best willow. Not only would it associate the Slazenger logo with being the best, it would also stand as a point of difference to all those 'super select' 'grade 1+' 'supreme' categorisations of willow other brands use.

Panthers were made by mixing poo with the sawdust from the factory floor, and lasted as long.
-
Panther poo, maybe. They have one roaming around the grounds, to keep bat nerds away.
