Title: Downend Cricket Club
Post by: ProCricketer1982 on June 20, 2013, 03:13:50 PM
Anyone on here know anything about Downend CC. Playing them this weekend (1sts) and given the weather I'll be on the machine for 2 hours pre game. Just wanted to know if there are any (proper) pace bowlers or anything particular worth training that morning.

They are a good side - got a Zimbabwean one day international playing for them, who by all accounts is pretty good.  One of our top order batsman left us for them this season!!!

Small ground, great teas, and like Byo says, their Zim player ain't too bad playing ODIs vs the Australian team. Also has Chris Gayle as a wicket

Largely depends on what sort of side they get out on a Sunday although I saw their Zimbabwean got 170 odd on a Sunday recently.
Like Colesy says, shame it isn't at their ground where you can block sixes (not that I was ever good enough to do so!)

We've got them on a Sunday in a few weeks time and I'm captain so fingers crossed he won't play. Don't want to open against him.

I've seen the Zim bowl a while a go now - he's pretty damn brisk - but does bowl the odd loose one, but you know, you've got to back yourself on the day, knowing every run scored off him is probs worth 2 in the real world.

Every dog has his day and every club deck is a great leveller!

Man up and show him your double ton form Colesy! I am sure some of the bowlers on that day were ODI standard after all?!

That's the one. Not that it'll happen as it'll get rained off but I'm kinda looking forward to facing him.

Will be thier Sunday side then but like nick says the pro will probably play. He will no doubt be the only first team player so don't worry too much.

Not worried about their normal guys even if it was first team, just this one lad if he's good. Rapid and accurate will be a nightmare.. rapid and erratic is ok.. We'll see :)

I would much rather have fast and accurate than fast and erratic. At least you have a chance of working out a way of playing an accurate bowler. A rapid crop sprayer is scary stuff. Facing Andre van Troost was a nightmare. Yorker, bouncer, Beamer etc etc

See he had 172 for thier Sunday side last week.

His league bowling stats are ok but not great.

That is a very good point. I was thinking more at least I'll have 'bad' balls to put away (or try too).

Yes, if he's regarded as 'rapid' then it's just the test I've been waiting all season for. Not overly impressed with the quality of bowling I've played against so far overall. Some good spells, some good balls but no one really stands out. Still got myself out enough times though  :(

Cricinfo have him down as a medium paced bowler. So you should expect at least 74mph I'd have thought.

74mph I'd be happy with. When people say 'rapid' I start to get visions of 80+ :(

Get's a bit harder then! (well, for me anyway)

They also have Tremlett down as medium fast...  Don't think that's necessarily accurate!

Sod facing Tremlett... Defo don't get paid enough to do that! I'd be having a chat with the square leg umpire each ball!
