Hi,
Got a load of old trainers lying around at home want to have a go at DIY spiking some trainers. Am I right in assuming its a case of sanding the sole to level the tread off and then stitching/glueing a new sole on with spikes fitted? I'm guessing there is a supplier for the soles or are they cut to fit the shoe from a larger piece of the material? Any help would be appreciate and I'll update on how it goes if I get anywhere with it!

FastBowlersUnited do it

I'm aware of companies who do it and have used a few in the past want to have a go myself which was outlined in my post.

Some companies just glue the soles on after they have sanded down the tread. Brian and Brenda have a machine that allows them to stitch it on

Yeah remember a pair I had from B&B where stitched on, is anyone in the know as to whether the soles can be purchased or is the material bought and then a sole cut from it?

If you're using them to bat in, you used to be able to get hardened plastic inserts for them to protect your toes. Might be worth a shout, most 'proper' cricket batting shoes have reinforced toes.

Have they? I haven't had any protection in my Adidas/ Puma or Asics spikes.

I happen to like Asics spikes, each to their own I guess. They'll be reinforced I would think, maybe not with hard plastic, but try hitting something on the front of your toes in your batting spikes, then try it in a pair of running shoes. Maybe it's just me, but I thought they felt stiffer as if reinforced. Also, it seems like it'd be a pretty good idea for them to be reinforced.

I also like Asics spikes, that's not what i'm saying, very comfortable and light. I just don't see any protection in the toes, yes they will use leather etc around the "toe cap" but no real protection.
