Title: Select Cricket
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on August 26, 2013, 12:58:16 AM
Hi Guys

Does anyone know anything about Select Cricket?

They've just followed me on Twitter and sent private messages offering me a "substantial discount"
They know I play cricket, but will have no idea about the standard I play or if I even bat. It seemed a strange way to try a d get new business to me.

Anybody else had a similar message?? And what I really want to know, has anyone take a punt, is it worth it??

I've had similar mate, just asked what gear they had & then got a separate DM along the lines of 'Select X bat, £100' and that was it, no context, no information about quality etc. struggle to see how I'm going to respond to that in a positive manner!

Cheers mate, think I'll give it a miss then. (That slight temptation to get a 'grade 1 bat' for £95 was there lol)

TON Powerplay
Kookaburra Kahuna 400
Kookaburra Ricochet 250

All are bats around the same price, none come with a scuff sheet, i don't think it is as essential as Jason makes out. The thing about narrower blades sounds quite typical of Pakistani bats from my experience, although i can't find any CSO videos where Jason criticises Newbery for doing the same. I've also seen Pakistani bats with a longer handle in a harrow, which is easier to spot.

Hi everyone,

Tried to keep this all quiet as I do not intend to get free advertising on this forum.
My gear has changed quite a bit since Jason's review, hence the description in the video now.

Would just like to clarify, our bats are no longer too narrow (I made a mistake in what I sent Jason) and our gear is not made by Sids, I had some gear off them ages ago and felt like I was conned so it was returned, hence them trying to flog it.

I hope the comment about breaking during knocking in was not about my bats and was about Sids because I really haven't sold loads and loads, therefore I have chased up every order I have taken to make sure the customer is happy.
Hope this clears some stuff up.
Cheers

Cheers

Sorry mate wasnt trying to insult your gear, just know that sids have been flogging some stuff of yours, also what was wrong with your sids experience, thanks.

It was the first time I'd ever thought of starting up a brand and didn't think to buy samples first.
Ordered 10 pairs of gloves and 10 pairs of pads, said what detailing I wanted etc.
Was told that they would be test protection, high quality stitching, high quality leather etc.
When they arrived, they were awful quality. Flimsy, low quality protection, velcro was awful.
After long talks, I sent them back to a guy in the UK.
Still no refund yet.

I also know that Josh Gavan from JP Gavan had a similar chain of events but with samples only.

I heard your bats are now coming from MSR?

I have a friend who used to order bats from SC Sids on a regular basis. Apparently he ordered a batch of 10 Harrow bats and when they arrived, they where all different sizes and only two where actual harrows.

Very difficult to buy from long distance especially when you aren't always covered by Trading Standards etc.

I'm not sure where all these rumours of my kit are coming from but I shall not be discussing it on the forum, sorry.
I have however tried quite a few suppliers over my time so you may be getting some news from scatters of random kit.

Anyway, with SC Sids, I can't believe it any more, they are terrible with service and I believe that they will not be refunding me ever.

Is there no way of getting a refund?

What is their reasoning for not giving one?

They said I agreed to them being of good quality.
There is only so much you can see in 5 seconds of video, I said they look fine but when they turn up, you can only then tell that the protection and stitching is shoddy.

They said they will sell them to get the money back and then refund.
I have sent many emails to no avail

Is your payment not protected in any way? either via Western Union or your bank etc?

Ive heard nothing but bad news about SC Sids, they claim to supply a lot of companies but I strongly doubt it seeing as though they struggle to make quality kit.

What can you do in terms of protection when paying via PayPal but the 45 days are up?

Unless you used a credit card to fund the paypal payment, probably not much.

you can open a dispute with paypal anytime after 30 days as a buyer.

Contact their resolution dept and they will look into the transaction etc.

As I say, a friend of mine ordered harrow bats that arrived all different sizes. He paid using western union so unfortunately didn't get a refund

Not sure this is accurate. You have to open a dispute within 45 days of payment. You then have 20 days to resolve things with the seller or ask paypal to adjudicate by escalating it to a claim.

Paypals buyer protection does not apply once the 45 days is up, or if you miss the secondary 20 day cut off.

Really??

Apologies, that's news to me. I was of the understanding that you could open a dispute anytime after 30 days.

Sorry for the wrong info guys.

How about Western Union? what are their terms

I am trying my best to work on getting gradual refund. As a said, stay clear of them.
Is there a thread for companies to stay clear of?

Also, I have gone through the tough time now and believe I have found the right suppliers for me in all aspects, so it's all going ok.
