Title: So, that's the season over, time to think of winter training...
Post by: Nato on September 02, 2013, 12:02:46 PM
After a reasonably successful first season (including a ripper of a game in a losing effort this weekend), I'm happy with my progress just from learning 'on the job' so to speak. However, now there are no games I will be able to have time to knuckle down and work properly on my technique, drills etc. I will be mostly training on an indoor surface, with a bowling machine and the use of several different human bowlers at my disposal. I have picked up on a few useful drills from the iCrick app, and have also taken some good stuff from the videos featuring Matt Prior and Jack Russell, so have a pretty solid range of basics to start with. How often would the more experienced of you be looking to train during the winter, or are you glad of the rest after flinging yourselves around all season?

I think I progress diary/blog might be in order here...

I usually don't start doing anything till about mid november.  Might book a session every few weeks with some mates until winter nets start around jan/feb.  Around march I'll usually book a 1-1 net with a coach, so I can work on anything I've struggled on, and book another after a friendly game or 2 in mid april, before the league season starts, so I can see how things have progressed

There didn't appear to be any sort of winter programme at our club last year, so I don't want to run the risk of being rusty come March when our lot come out of hiding. there are a couple of us that are really keen to put hours in over the winter though, so the possibility of a couple of hours every two weeks is looking like a fair option. Other than that, it'll be 1-1 with a coach, and plenty of fitness work, which is where I felt I struggled most this season, particularly with my running between the wickets. That can surely only help my keeping too :)

No real structure at my club until Feburary last Winter. Hoping to have some 1-1 sessions this time around but struggling to find anyone in the North West to do it. Any suggestions?
