Bedroom brands like this come and go every few months.

If something seems too good to be true, then it most probably is.

It is easy to claim a bat is UK made, it is another thing to prove it.

Claims to be able to provide a custom designed set of stickers on an individual bat?! I don't know of any sticker printer who would work on such a low minimum without charging a premium. A decent set of stickers can cost around £10, that is when ordered in bulk. Lets assume £10 though, is a grade 1 bat really going to cost £65? There are plenty of us on the forum who know how much a grade 1 cleft costs....

I would probably take a miss, there's no guarantee, also your bats are pretty special. Is it someone on the forum?

I think its a sign that most decent names in the industry are taken when people are naming their companies "Virus Cricket"

Ask him if he can send you a trial bat which you will then return and do a full review he can use for his customers.

Hi all,
I am Lewis Faulds. 16 years old and still at school. I am the founder and attempting to be owner of Virus. The name was inspired by my chemistry teacher who wrote the virus on every bat he has ever owned - thus the link.
I was duped into the bats of keeping, who offered me a grade 1 bat at £80. I thought that this was their trade price. While on eBay, I was looking for a hammer fyrre and was about to buy Simons until my loving sponsors at kookaburra decided they'd renew my deal. In short, virus is still a dream. In all honesty, I wanted the honest opinion of people like yourself, who know far more than me about company's. I plan on getting bats from SM in India now, as they offer grade 1 at a realist price. If any wants to give me some positive/ negative comments about my plans let me know. My bats aren't amazing. I've only had two samples from companies that'll remain nameless but they were ok. With the exception of a CA custom I received.

Thank you,
Regards
Lewis

So you're getting bats from India, yet claiming they're pressed in Kent??

What is false advertising...

I think he was trying to get his bats from keeping sports but I don't know off anyone who can knock out a grade one for 65 pounds just think he needs to do a bit off homework before going into the Indian market  ;)

Never heard of both of them.
But it is safe to say, Keeping Sports' grading system isn't the best..

Grade 1 -
Highest quality english willow

Grade 2 -
High quality english willow

Grade 3 -
Kashmir Willow

??

Whilst on the surface it doesn't look good to use forum folk who inspect every brand under the microscope/ shine a torch in the owners eyes good cop/bad cop style.

Fair play to you Lewis, to be 16 and trying to start a brand up in what you love! You accept you're not receiving top bats right now which is better than being happy with what you can get your hands on. I'm sure in time you'll be able to offer better quality bats.

Any photos of the bats you've been given as samples so far?

Forum folk: Remember when Hammer joined up? FastEddie took to them like they were trying to sell us bats made of balsa wood! (mainly over their communications....) I'm sure we all saw past that.
This is a 16 year old trying to set up a brand, and a forum which has more concentrated knowledge than the rest of the internets combined. We could kick him down, or we could offer some helpful advice and who knows, in 4 years time could be a company we're proud to have in our kit bag? /optimism

If my initial comment sounded as if I was trying to shoot anyone down apologies, it was made in jest, although reading it back this may not have been apparent.

I wish Lewis all the best with Virus Cricket, and if the opportunity arrises I will be happy to try the products.

Hi,
Well In all honesty, I was told that I would be receiving hand made grade 1 English willow, made and pressed in kent when in fact I don't even know who are where they were from. I'm deciding to perhaps go down to route of India or either spyder or msr. I've looked at India but I think what may just stop me is the communications. I know a vast amount of people in India and Pakistan that were keen for me to have their samples. Any bats from India, would be made and pressed there. Not in kent as I was misinformed

I think you have got good plans but think its worth doing your homework on Indian makers as a lot try and sell Kashmir willow as English willow but theirs no problem with you wanting to start something new your lean bye your mistakes

Here you go mate :

Quick , easy and really dumbed down guide from me   ;) (why is the image upload guide in a restricted area  :-[).

1. Make sure you have the pictures you want to upload saved somewhere on your computer.

2. Navigate to the site http://postimage.org/ (http://postimage.org/)

3. In the box beside 'Select files to upload:' click the browse button , and in the box that pops up find the picture , select it and then click on open.

4. Make sure the resize box is set to 640x480 , and click the 'Upload it!' button.

5. Wait for the image to upload , this should only take a few seconds.

6. On the page that comes up (which should show your picture) , scroll down to where all the links are in the bottom half of the page.

7. Copy the 'Direct Link' (second link down).

8. Paste the link into  tags , like this :

Code: [Select]

9. Post your post and the image should be displayed at a reasonable size!

My only comment, before even looking at the products, is that as a brand name, Virus is possibly not something most people would associate with cricket, or find particularly inspiring. It projects a negative image, which isn't what you really want in a brand name, and may put some people off.

Good luck though!

Good call if you ask me. It's so hard to break I to the market and simply just getting bats from India and a stickering them up is not new anymore. Hard to set yourself out from the competition. Plus the name virus is poor, negative connotations if you ask me which would make it even harder (IMO)

I admire your entrepreneurial skills though :-)

I don't think Virus is a bad name. It reminds me of the hand made Italian supercharged sports bike Vyrus 987 C3 4V.(http://i1352.photobucket.com/albums/q652/luke_blinman/vyrus-987-c3-4v-23_zps730d467e.jpg) (http://s1352.photobucket.com/user/luke_blinman/media/vyrus-987-c3-4v-23_zps730d467e.jpg.html)

Hello, founder of Keeping Sports here :)
Just happened to come across this thread and just thought we were getting an unfair bad name so thought I would clear some things up. There is no 'Keeping Sports Virus' it was a design I was working on with Lewis at the time which I was happy to put our name to.
I am in the same boat as Lewis, this was a business project I started at school three years ago when I wanted to make cricket bats with custom stickers and it progressed from there.
As for the Grade 1 Bat/Price... I make little to no profit at the moment on the bats, just in it for the business experience and as a hobby. My bat maker assures me they are Grade 1 English willow bats, they seem good to me and my customers have never complained.
As I said, I am young and relatively new to this so I admit the website system and descriptions aren't the best, so any advice on that would be much appreciated as there are obviously people who know their stuff in here!
Thanks for reading, just wanted to make it clear I'm not out to do any harm or con anyone!
Josef
