Title: Your next 3 bats?
Post by: Krs on November 16, 2013, 12:52:03 PM
As you have noticed there are so many new bats being released, I was wondering what would be the next three bats on your shopping list. It can be a mainstream brand or maybe one from the forum.

I was going to say what is your next bat, but then I thought, how many people on here have just one or two bats lol.

This is not a if I had hip hop money thread I would buy the limited edition mother of pearl bat that is made out of unicorn sperm which costs £1 zillion pounds but more of what you can realistically get.

Mine would be:

1) Robert Pack - I really like the shape and RP has a pretty good reputation so you know you are gonna get some awesomeness!

2) Python Low Middle Shape - a bit controversial, but again I like the shape and after speaking to John he seems pretty confident about his willow selection. So I thought I would give it a try.

3) ST - the finishing on the bats are amazing on par with Aldred I think. The shape I like is their Samurai!

A brand that was close to the list and I want is:

Red Ink Custom - Not that well known, but been following the brand since I have joined, recently with his posts about his new work shop and stuff it seems like he is ready to go to the next level. His bats look lush and for the price you cannot really go wrong.

There are others but they are out of my price range such as the Uzi Sport pro model!

What would you want and why?

Post away! It would be great to see what other peoples choices are. Maybe there might be a change on people's original list.

All from Vitas

B&S supreme 2.10 with this years L.E stickers and matching softs

Kook Bubble - awaiting to see what Jake pic's for me but he knows what I like.

Then away from that Andrew Kember is making me a couple of new match bats that I will post once finished.

No doubt there will be a fee others along the way but will need to clear a few out.

Is that a Python as in the bedroom brand that is handpicked for pro's or what ever tosh is said about them?? If so mate please don't part with good money. I would rather give you a bat from my collection.

What, so you're not planning to buy your next three bats at our event in December?!  ;)

Knowing your bat buying reputation, that actually surprises me!!  :D

Paul I don't think you have anything to worry about. Soulman1021 has a crazy bat fetish, I was telling my GF about how he loves bats, her reply was "oh like how I like shoes? I love shoes! He can buy bats if he loves bats!"

Just dangle a few in front of him

Back on topic, if I was to buy three bats, they would probably be:

1. Woodstock TDF
2. Salix SLX
3. H4L Hattori

Soulman, the bat for KRS is pressed by Tim keeley

If you don't like me or the way I post that's fine but to say I'm talking tosh about the origins of my willow is bordering on a libellous statement

For me it'd be:-

B&S LE (really liked the sample at Vitas)

B3 Trott esque profile

Kook bubble

Let's face it being on the forum I'll have changed my mind by Monday  :)

They are not hand picked for pros but made by willow that is used by pros.

Soulman, the bat for KRS is made by Tim keeley

John it's not for this thread or to start a ping pong post but can I ask a honest question?

I know you get a fair bit of stick (possible some justified, some maybe not), why don't you just bite the bullet become a sponsor and show the forum what your brands all about - think of it as a challenge to silence the critics!

The way you post will always reflect on your business. And it would be deluded to think otherwise.

Mr Garrett all i know is your bats are made by the best and to be fair with your reputation in cricket i would have no doubt buying a bat from you...

My next 3 will all be B3 because they make something not even the great Keeley or Kember can do 100 per cent of the time but B3 can...

John the bats i have seen of python on here and elsewhere have all looked classy indeed and up my street.

1) A harrow size H4L Tempo to see if that brings the weight down a bit to 2.9 as I normally use 2.7- 2.8. What  a magnificent profile !
2) A B3 crown grade willow in a Spartan MC LE shape. I am a bit confused about low density willow. Aren't they naturally occurring willow with lower cellular water content ?. Can I simply not get a normal grade and dry it next to a radiator in order to attain a similar effect ?.
3) Between Red Ink , RK, DS and Aldred bats, I simply cannot choose. Each of these brands are churning out stupendous pieces of willow.
Title: Re: Your next 3 bats?
Post by: horseman on November 16, 2013, 05:06:27 PM
1) gm purist for old times sake.
2) aldred butterfly - new shape mixed with pauls thoights on the butterfly stain in the willow
3)  a ds - seen some great work on here.

Long time off I think though.

Title: Re: Your next 3 bats?
Post by: sfa82 on November 16, 2013, 05:12:16 PM
Let me see....

1) GN Maverick 5 star (on the way)
2) D&P Vector limited edition
3) Aldred (Have you seen the grade 3s posted earlier?!?!?!)

Title: Re: Your next 3 bats?
Post by: compstallcc on November 16, 2013, 05:22:54 PM
1) GN powerspot or powerbow xgen 5 star (since ive seen the shape i cant choose which one)
2) DS really like the way the bats are shaped with most of the wood in the hitting area
3) A B3 really want to experiment with a shape i can decide by a mm

number 1 seems quite realistic for the near future, otherwise i may have to wait :(

RPC
Blueroom Storm
Salix top of the range

After 2014 I doubt I'll ever buy a bat again :)

The way you post will always reflect on your business. And it would be deluded to think otherwise.

Maybe you should actually see my point and understand where I'm coming from when I question the prices of bats versus their quality. I will NEVER sell anyone an overpriced bat in order to put money in my pocket. For me it's not about making money it's about club cricketers like all of you lads getting a proper bat that is being sold at nearly twice the price elsewhere.

You will also see I have NEVER had a bad word to say about Aldred or BB as they seem to be like me, they want club cricketers to use pro quality equipment at reasonable prices. I have purchased 3 BB bats.

If I can't provide someone a bat they want (I've restricted my bats to two stock shapes) I will tell them such, rather than sell them a bat they haven't asked for and refer them to BB or B3 (if it seems a very particular request) and I have lost nearly 10 sales because of this. If I send someone a bat they don't like they can send it back and I'll give them 100% refund or another one.

I'm sure KRS won't mind me saying that I actually told him that he doesn't need a bat from me and that he will have a very good bat in his Aldred and should keep his money as there is no point in having 5 bats, then 10 and before you know it you don't know which bat to use. You won't give a bat at least 500 runs to see how it is and you will have too much choice so you are never happy with them. As a result you end up having bought from all the batmakers/brands and there is nowhere to turn.

My advice, have 2 bats use them how you feel through a season. Ditch the one you least happy with and then buy one or two more for next season.

I do see where your coming from. Your spare bedroom with no overheads or other costs to think off.
Merely selling a product at bargain price so you constantly bitch about the price of bats being sold by people trying to make a living from it.

Its not big its not clever and its dam right annoying. Severely ruins this forum seeing it on every other post.

Really Really

This forum has changed people buy into brands plain and simple understand the backgrounds just because people are forum sponsors does not mean your getting the best price and deal trust me.

The bedroom brands you speak of are not some of the forum sponsors the same.

This forum is less than 1% of the market look around there plenty of choice mate what wrong with getting superior equipment at a cheap price....?????

Lets take a famous maker from Sussex or Kent who may or may not make for 10 brands if i can get the cheapest bat he/they make at the price i shall get it even if he lives in a cart or a bin.

It reminds me of the famous India v England bat debate years ago bat snobs everywhere.....

My theory is buy the bat you want with the price your happy at.

The forum is getting crazy look beyond the pail it a bigger world out there.

GarrettJ is straight to the point kind of guy and one of the most knowledgeable on the forum.

Smiley, someone said they are going to get a bat from me. One persons immediate reply was that they are rubbish and that I'm a n0b and they would prefer to give them a free bat.

That's annoying for as they have no grounds to say this about my bats (fair enough if you don't like me personally) apart from not liking me personally and I will reply to that.

Why not reply back saying don't buy from him as his posts are rubbish rather than referring to a bat he's never ever seen.

I suggest you, soulman, nick auger and Big Dipper (can't remember his name) use the BLOCK function on me. You will see the place suddenly not have me responding to your comments about me and my bedroom (which has no bats in it :) )

Just 3 to choose from? That's not easy!!

I think my short list would be..........
Something from 2014 Salix selection - have several already and they are frigging amazing!
Python to see if they are as good as some of them look, as they are from a maker I like!
GM Octane Players - looove the profile
Aldred as they all look super!
Black Mamaba Pro - the ones I saw were top notch!
I'm sure there are a dozen more that would make my shortlisty too!!  ;)

1 - a hand crafted, joeljonno made, limited edition, G3 English willow custom-made, unique bat.

Then depending how well I do or not, probably

2- Aldred
3 - Red Ink, especially with that ashes offer coming up.

This thread has reminded me that I want more than three!

I forgot about the BB gold edition ones but sadly they might be priced out of wallet spending capability.

Black Mamaba Pro - the ones I saw were top notch!
I'm sure there are a dozen more that would make my shortlisty too!!  ;)

Did you not reserve one at Asad's? They were super awesome!

Jake at Vitas has really got my thinking about a GN or GM, the bats he been posting up look awesome to.

However my choice has to be limited by my new teacher Simonmay5, as he will be coaching me batting, he has politely told me to wait and see what type of batsman I am. Which is very reasonable.

Oh and just to touch on the Python subject, John is right, he did offer me a bat to try out and if I did not like it I could return it to him. He also told me not to buy a python because the Aldred and DS should be fine. As a consultant I am surrounded by opinionated people, however I think I have a good jist of who is usually talking balls and who is not. John is the latter, He is just a no holds bar type of guy, nothing wrong with that. Not once has he tried to sell me his bat but have me all the information I needed to make my own decision.

Anyways moving on......

Other brands I need to check out are B&S, Salix which is just down the road from my GF so would love to visit the workshop and H4L again nearby. These are bats that I'm interested in learning more about.

B3 is a brand that I think is cool, but there are so many other options that are more competitively priced and therefore worth looking at.

I have four coming along in February, when I'm back...

After saying saying I would never buy another Laver again because I found them to be pricey and inconstant with their weights, (asked for 2.9 and 2.10, both are now 2lb 12.5oz and 2.12 respectively) they put up an offer of a free net net bat with a Reserve, which I couldn't resist. My Reserve is probably the best bat I have used, it just feels right even though it is a bit heavy. I just couldn't resist this offer, since Anthony let me use my 100nzd discount with it. :-[ I don't think it helped that I netted with my Laver the night before...

I also have a lovely Bubble 5 star on the way from Paul at IJC and also a B&S LE from Jake, not a good time for the bank account!

Besides these, I would actually quite like to try a Crown B3, Python and a Hammer Black...

Nice thread if cant even afford 1 bat let alone 3 .
Me personally with unlimited resources I would by a
Gray Nicolls Vortex top model, looks an interesting shape and concept would love to try it out
A custom made blueroom with the new stickers / labels that Aaron Redmond is using looks sweet , the bat would be in the shape of ST's bat
Hell 4 leather tempio oversize cleft , looks awesome love that shape and cheap compared to the M&H oversize clefts
All would be 2.10 with a light pick up

Close on the list
A sailx pod
RK custom seems to be churning out some nice ones
Kookaburra bubble legend , hopefully I win it of paul
Red Ink - any let the bat maker choose
Hunts county custom reflex shape want to see what that profile feels like
powerspot
e41 scoop aus

A thread devoted to gluttony?  Love it!

Given that I'm currently trying to offload one, this may seem hypocritical, but such is the curse of the forum...

1. Kook Bubble Legend, on order from Jake
2. Most likely another B3, with a higher middle
3. Maybe a GN Gen X or GM Purist.  Or a Powerspot.  Or a Laver. Or an RPC (head explodes...)

I just had a play around with a M&H Master bat (2.12)

WOW what a lovely bat, so powerful. The cost of £350+ though is a bit scary.

If you have that cash, defo have a little look see.

not the Master but the other two were. The Master was a friend who just got one, but it is to heavy for him. He said he will try to get used to it after spending £350 on it. He was told it had a light pick up but these pick up according to the weight.

1. Something from BAS. I've never tried an Asian brand and Asad is very positive about these so I think this is the one I would go for
2. Aldred, have been consistently impressed with the photos of his work posted on here
3. GN Powerspot, for old time sake

Masters definitely don't pick up light! Can't believe he was told that! As I've said in our videos, for me, they are a touch bottom heavy, and definitely feel their weight.  Immense bats though, so I can see why you like them so much!!  :)

I am lucky I am addicted to the gym so 2.12 was okay for me.

When at Asad's he told me Tendulkar usually bats with a 3.2 and his forearms are almost HE-MAN like. I added forearm exercises to my regime. LOL

And after some careful consideration I've narrowed my choice down (still think 3 is too few)

One of those beautiful butterfly stained bats (either Aldred or Vulcan)
A Kookaburra Bubble or a GN Dynadrive
Either a Laver or a H4L or a Python or a BB or a HitsHard or a Rob Pack or a Red Ink or a Shamrock or a Neon or a Chase

There's my short list of 14 possibilities for my next 3 bats. Need to get rid of some of the 12 I already have first though I think!
Title: Re: Your next 3 bats?

Depending on how my Harrow experiment goes...

A) Willostix
B) HitsHard
C) Rob Pack Custom (again)

(D)Kookaburra Bubble
(E) Gray Nicholls Oblivion E41

Can't go wrong with that selection I feel, though Aldred is always up there, very impressed by the bats he crafts.

ive got a few bats in mind that I wouldn't mind getting my hands on if money was no object!

- Kookaburra Bubble, looks great!!
- Gray Nics E41
- Would really like to try an Aldred
- Vanquish Velox, already have a Vanquish and haven't got a bad word to say about them
- Love the look of the New Hammer bats! bit pricey though!

if money wasn't an issue I would buy all five!!

My continuos quest to learn about new bats I have come across the Affinity Spectre. What I trust me about this bat is that the amount of pressing is calculated by the resonance they the batmaker wants to achieve. Very scientific. The shape is great to!

Spectre has been on a diet and come a little to my fighting weight of 2.12 and have a new addition to the family as well as a clean up of last seasons match bat that has scored a few runs and seen better days now :(

1. Anything Affinity

3. another Platinum Black

Of course the downside is that I am going to have to buy these bats now that I've written them down. No point setting goals if you're not going to make an effort.

It's 2lb 12oz but it picks up like 2lb 9oz, it's got a mid middle and has a slight amount of concaving. Don't know the edge size as I am not bothered by the thickness of the edges...I was in formed by Marcus it's more of a hybrid of the Carbine and Ayrtek models as opposed to a "true" Ayrtek model. It's got two butterfly stains on the face....
