Who's the best keeper now gillie is gone? I think mucullam defiantly
-
in what way, keeping skills, or overall.
-
Welll now that Gilly has retired, it has to be Mark Boucher
-
i think the best keeper is defo mcullam - hes a matchwinner with the gloves and bat and he can also field! ;D
-
Best Keeper/Batsman would be Sangakkara for me.
-
Sangakkara for me aswell, but he hasnt been keeping recently.
-
either sangakkara, boucher of mcullum
-
McCullum or Sangakkara for me..
-
Would have to be boucher for me, although McCullum is getting better, but has had streaks of inconsistency
-
If it's pure keeping how can it not be Boucher? For me he is just an awesome and his batting isn't bad.
But for batting it would be Sangakkara as he just looks like a batsman and his keeping is good as well.
-
To me Sangakarra is a batsman who can keep very well, but as he isn't keeping at the moment it has to be Boucher.
-
Sangakkara has been keeping in the Asian Cup hasn't he?
-
I dont know his full name, but the young Jarwardyne is a very handy keeper as-well, Sri Lanka dont have to use Sangakarra with him in the side.
-
Being EXTEREMLEY bias i will say M.S. Dhoni ;D ...but he is a great captain as well now he is batting up the order he is getting quite a lot of half-centuries.
But Sangakarra is a genuine wikkie-batsmen.
-
Dhoni for me is a great keeper to spinners but to fast bowlers in swinging and sweaming conditions he has a bit of a struggle.
Jayadwardena is a good keeper and the reason he keepas in test i think is so sangakkara can just concentrate on his batting.
-
to be honest there is a distinct lack of class with all the keeper you mention yes there all good batsman but keepers alone well someone show me a better gloveman in the world than chris read and before i get jumped on i mean gloveman not batsman
-
I actually agree... Thats why when anyone starts a "post your england team for xxx" he is always my keeper. Hes a great gloveman and he isnt a mug with the bat, I remember him hitting a six off the last ball of a ODI to win the game for us :P
-
Foster and everyone knows it... Surely if you gave him a chance I reckon he'd be one for good no joke!
-
If he hadn't have got injured in India and letting Stewart back in i reckon he wouldv'e still been England keeper.
-
Mushfiqur Rahim best gloveman,
McCullum is the best wicketkeeper batsmen
-
How much I hate to say it but I think in a few season's time some people will be mentioning Brad Haddin (oh that hurts) -once he gains more experience with his glove work and batting. I've said it before but I think Foster is England's best gloveman but I am happy for Matt Prior at the moment, he's doing nicely
-
Haddin was 30 when came into the International scene I'd hardly say he is inexperienced.
He's a more than capable batsman especially in the OD format.
-
I'm talking about full on international experience, i don't recall too many times Gilchrist didn't play
-
mccullum.
-
Prasanna Jayawardene for Keeping alone,
McCullum for the batting side,
Ms Dhoni is the best all rounder though, in all forms..

McCullum's hardly consistance with the bat, averages low 30's in Tests and high 20's in ODI's.
-
after watching the sa vs aussies series mcullums wicket keeping was pretty good and he puts his body on the line when he was carrying an injury. his batting isnt consistent but when its right hes deadly, sangakarra has to be best batsmen tho no competition
-
Boucher as the best keeper Sangakkara as the best keeper batter
-
McCullum, no doubt... Dhoni is overrated
-
Bucko - Dhoni is overrated which way?
The way I see it is, Dhoni, is the best captain going around, by a long stretch. Coupled with that a might good lower order batsman in Tests and awesome finisher in ODI's, and most importantly his keeping ain't too bad either.
McCullum's keeping is hardly special, he does the odd piece of magic, but when keeping to spin, that's if Vettori ever turns the ball, isn't as difficult as keeping to Harbhajan or Mishra like Dhoni does.
-
isn't dhoni rated the no. 1 batsmen in one dayers at the moment? also i rarely see him make mistakes behind the stumps, aswell as being captain. hes got a lot going for him!
-
Mc cullem
dohni
ramdin
3 class keepers

What makes you think hes the best Captain around i have to say i dont agree with that!
And his keeping is average the chance he drops or doesnt get close to could cost 100's of runs!
Brian Lara Dropped in the teens - 501* ?

Same could be said of any keeper dropping a catch, like Prior.
Dhoni's record as captain speaks for its self,
CB Series victory
World Twenty/20 Championship victory
ODI Series Win against Pakistan
Test Series Win Against Australia
Two ODI's series Wins against Sri Lanka
Test and ODI Series Wins against England
Test and ODI Series Wins against New Zealand
Pretty good return IMO
-
doesn't get much better than that!
-
Do india win because dhoni is very good captain?? or because they are the better side? As my gran would say you cant make a silk purse out of a sow's ear

Well Dravid and Kumble also lead the side that Dhoni has inherited, yet their records weren't as good as Dhoni's. So it proves that Dhoni brings the best out of the team.
-
No it doesnt prove that, you say dravid and kumble led the same team well on paper they did but you now have players like ishant sharma and gambir who have matured into good test cricketers. Does dhoni take credit for this as well then? or is it just incidental?

Well obviously Dhoni takes credit for this, when you had a strong captain, everyone learns and develops quicker.
Dravid and Kumble mighty fine players, legends of the game, but captaincy wasn't either of theirs strong point. More often than not, they would wait for something to happen before reacting.
Dhoni on the other hand makes things happen, thinks out of the box.
-
i really dont know how to answer you jeet nothing i say is going to change how you think about dhoni, but to claim that gambhir and and sharma are better players and in form because of dhoni is just garbage. going on your reasoning in the 2nd test gambhir shouldnt have scored a run and sharma should have gone around the park
i would like to see dhoni lead an bad side and then you would find out a lot more about his captaincy
-
Ricky ponting has a longer list of series wins, does this make him the best captain ever???
-
SoS, please show me where I said Dhoni is the greatest captain ever. I had shown why I think Dhoni's the best captain in the world cricket atm.
Secondly, Gambhir scoring runs in the 2nd Test has nothing to do with Dhoni, Dhoni has added the belief to the players and is making them perform well, as to reach the team goal, World Number 1 status. That doesn't mean if he's not playing that the team will go down like a lead balloon.
Also, if Dhoni has a good side, it's hardly his fault. India has had bad sides in the past, now we have a very good side, so it's Dhoni's good fortune.
-
to be fair, dhoni captained the side that won the world 2020 nearly 2 years ago when sharma and gambhir were pretty much unheard of, and were not reknown for high run scoring and wicket getting..... i seem to remember them beating australia in the semi final as well.
-
The side Dhoni has now is much stronger
-
GMH - please explain what stupidity and utter rubbish you are referring to?
Bucko - that may well be the case, but the captain still has to lead example, which MSD has done.
-
Virendra Shewag lead the same side in one of the test matches in NZ and lost miserably. MS came back in the next test and you saw how the Indians mowed the kiwis. Thankfully for the kiwis the rain Gods came to their rescue (they were just 2 wickets 2 being defeated).
MS for me and as widely agreed in the top cricketing circles is a born leader. There is a huge difference is a born leader and a appointed leader.
You rarely see him loosing his cool even in the most horrid of positions that the team may be in.
Let me know one keeper who has not had a bad run.
-
also its all good and well having a better team but when the skipper isnt great you loose, 2005 ashes on paper the aussies were better but pointing had a awful series and cost them
-
i remember the last time i saw sangakara i wasnt impressed at his keeping ability but what a batsman!
for me its too hard to choose, no team chooses an out and out gloveman these days. most selected are selected on the ability to knock out a few runs as well.
i think the best keeper in the international game though is McCullum.
-

Not entirely sure about this... so Ponting's bad captaincy is the reason Hayden, Langer, Martyn and Gilchrist couldn't buy a run, why Simon Jones bowled out of his skin, and Freddie put in possibly the best all-round performance of any international cricketer in the last 20 years?
I think the planning that Fletcher and Vaughan put in, together with the execution of a bowling attack in it's best ever form, plus all 11 eleven players collective peaking were the main reasons for 2005's victory
-
don't forget mcgrath slipping on a cricket ball and putting himself out for 2 tests! :D
