So a few weeks ago my dad who I see a few times a year these days phoned me up and asked what I was doing for Christmas, I told him the normal, staying at home eating to much, drinking to much and falling asleep whilst watching some (No Swearing Please) on TV. He must have thought this sounded great fun so invited himself along. His passing comment was "do you still use the same weight" so I replied yes. To give some context my dad is the reason I play cricket as he got me into it as a child, I used to watch in awe as he smashed the ball what seemed miles each weekend. He took me to all my colts games, spent hours in the garden practising and teaching me. He also is the reason for my bat addiction. He always believed in seeing and getting hand made bats, he introduced me to Salix when I was 14 and had my first hand made bat and always took me there each year for my birthday.
Anyway back on track. I have been emailing him the last few days asking why did he ask that question. He just said it was a suprise. So today I was running around London all day going from meeting to meeting on the tube. When I finally got back to the office and checked some emails he had sent me these pics with the caption Happy Christmas.
Now I have never owned a Hawk and to be totally honest never really gave them much of a thought. Will be interested to see what this is like in the flesh. My weight is 2.9 which knowing my dad this will come in dead on weight. He visited and choose this on ping so he told me when I spoke to him earlier. This is a pro model which looking on there website is G1/2 willow. i would say this is more G2, wide grain (this is something he always looked for when he played, said they lasted longer and played better). also looks like quite a big bat with large profile. He did always have good bats himself so hopefully this will be a cracker. He is coming to stay for a couple of weeks over Christmas and will be here Thursday so hopefully he will let me take some more pics then. For the time being here goes

I have a couple of these in Players grade. Don't think you'll be disappointed. Lovely bats :)
-
Looks a belter Chris.......Just what you needed too, another bat :)

He lives in a place called Evesham, he retired 3 years ago and that was where he grew up so he moved back there, I've only been there once, as he mainly comes down here as all our family are this way.

I know well I haven't got a Hawk so that's another ticked off the List lol.
-
Hmm... I've been thinking about giving a hawk bat a go for awhile now. Previous models have seemed a little small for their weights, but this newish profile looks great :)
-
I just received two of their bats in the players grade as well..............amazing profiles and slightly heavier but beautiful sticks.
I like the 700 more than the 900 jus coz the balance is better.
-
I think your dad's right when it comes to less grains. Not the most beautiful but I bet it does go like stink.

Yep Evesham isn't far away mate. If you ever visit at the weekend and want a game let me know

Roger at Solitaire is a top bloke, you definitely cannot argue with his bats for the price - best performing bats I've used and he's now got some electric weighing scales!

Dont mean to hijack your thread, but here are a few pics of my hawk.
Weighs just around 2.10.5 ..almost 2.11, and is the players edition.

I'm also in the 'less is more' camp in respect of grains and bow so I think your dad has a great eye Chris. Enjoy!

That's a lovely looking stick mate, how well does she play?

That shapes lovely, very much like the amplus shape aswell

I'm going to try and get him to join the forum and the user papa wide grain lol. He was a pretty good player when he was younger playing for the mcc universities side or the old day version, believe it was a slightly different name then and also a few county 2nd team games in the 1970's.

Well she pings really really well of the mallet and old ball and have not given it a go in the nets.
Since i prefer the weight of the 700 i will be using that and this stick will be looking for a new home :(

So my dad has arrived for Christmas and bought the bat with him. First impressions are its very nice, looks better in the flesh than in the pics I recieved and posted although not going to win best looking bat competition. Pick up is very good. 2.9 and quite a big bat for the weight, little concaving but not to much. One thing I love is the profile really really nice.
Will get some more pics up tomorrow as catch up time now.
-
Pictures of the actual bat now I have recieved it. Tap up with an old ball is very nice and I don't think will take to long prep time.

So after becoming a bit connected to my Hawk bat I decided to get some matching softs, the pads are the pro series in small men's and are an amazing fit, also very comfy on and best thing was they cost £10 from eBay, the gloves are brand new and are the x-bow 500 which are the intro range. Only recieved them yesterday but very soft leather palms' reinforced finger protection and good side protection with a thick wrist band.
All in all very impressed with the Hwk brand and hope this bat opens up into a beauty for a bit of Sunday fun as and when she gets an appearance.

What do your team mates think about your stash Chris?

What do your team mates think about your stash Chris?
A few have a bit of envy, a few think im a mupet, but most are happy to help knock in a few bats through nets, matches etc. a few test out mine then buy based on how they like a particular bat. I only take 2 bats to each game and Saturday cricket is reserved for the HH stuff so some of the gear will only get used in nets. I have about 4 bats that I would not net with.
-
Ah right just if I go to nets or whatever with a new bat or piece of kit, I get the usual stick of only using 1 bat at once and how they're all the same...even got stick for wearing a inner and outer thigh pad which I thought was strange considering it's premier league level and the fact all the other lads use aero strippers. I think they're just jealous of the thigh pads from mr foxy ;)

There are a couple of other kit badgers at my club as well, one player is a Newbery fanatic and has 12 newbery s including 3 kudos ( he was so gutted I got the first sold to member of public, he has offered me silly money for it). We have a few players who have managed to get 5-6 seasons out of a bat but then again there not members on here. I who plan on trying to show a bit of restraint this year with new kit though lol.

Great stash, Chris! :D :D
