Title: Salix Pod One Tri-wheel bag
Post by: brokenbat on January 02, 2014, 02:55:00 AM
Has anyone here used it? I saw the review from itsjustcricket online. Does look top-notch, but was wondering if anyone has personal experiences to share re the tri-wheel bag.

I currently have a multi-tiered bag (the Kook Pro Players), and it is a bit of a behemoth (I am NOT a keeper) to lug around. Considering switching to the Pod One Tri-Wheel, which seems to be much more reasonable size (will save the Kook for touring). The only question I would have is re whites, spare clothes, jumper, and other random odds and ends (sunscreen, shades, etc) - do you just lump em in with pads etc? If so, don't the clothes stink up a bit by being next to sweaty pads? I guess, I could shove my helmet in the main section, and use the 'helmet' section for the clothes etc?

Hi Brokenbat I use the pod one bag, it is a good bat and a good size for all odds and ends, I use mine as you said with clothes in the separate compartment. great build quality as you would expect from Salix, might be able to pick up a cheap 2013 one with all the new kit coming out ?

I had one and found the bag struggled with it standing up. Just leans over. And you must be a brave man to use the bat cave. Positives are its a big bag and you can fit everything in and it's well made and feels sturdy although the stitching on mine came undone. I down sized and got a m&h t2 which fits everything inside including bats.

Just as an FYI, these are still Big! The measurements of the Pod One are 90cm x 38cm x 36cm, so you are saving 10cm in length, 2 in width and 4 in height.

I have the Warsop superior as a boot tidy with loads of spare kit, football boots and everything.

I use the Pod One as my cricket bag, and I like it, it's big enough, it needs to be full to stand up/lean, mine has been hammered for two seasons and the only issue is a bit of stitching near the bat cave, not sure why you need to brave to use the bat cave unless I've missed something.

For me it was a toss up between the Salix and the T2 and I went for the slightly smaller T2 which is still pretty big.

Phil, depends if you put your bat/s in it as well. keeping pads possibly, helmet as well a definate no.

In mine goes 2 fully padded bats, pads, aero p2's. 2 pairs of gloves, wk gloves(no pads), whites/towel, drinks, shower bag etc.

It's worth looking for IJC's video on the T2 which shows how much stuff you can ram in.

I struggled to get my bats in, I would have to ram them in to get them fully in the bag. The only way to avoid this was to mt the bag first to put the bats in.

In the interest of fair play, IJC also did a vid of the Salix tri-wheel

And herein lies a bit of confusion. From my layman’s perspective, the dimension difference is indeed rather small, but in terms of classification, the Salix Pod One Tri Wheeler is ‘medium sized’ (per the itjustcricket review), whereas the Kook Pro Players is “deluxe” size!!

Right, however I would still describe the Pod One as "Large". The Pod Pro is medium (at 86cm long x 36cm high x 33cm wide). That fits in the boot of most cars comfortably. Once you start to add the extra length and girth, it become problematic.

And I'd never had a problem fitting two pairs of boots, two bats, a helmet, batting and keeping pads, both gloves, whites, towel, wash kit, etc in a pod pro, so how people can't get this in a T2, which is quite a bit larger, is beyond me!

You got all that in the Pod Pro ?? It only has one compartment (and the bat tunnel), no?

Aye. Two bats in the bat tunnels, and all that in the main compartment, shoe compartment and decent sized side pocket. Seems as though people have forgotten how to pack a cricket bag! I also forgot the scorebook and pack of multicoloured pens, as well as half a dozen cricket balls, TOm Smith's Umpiring guide and things like bowler's run up markers, umpiring ball counter, spare food, etc. It also has a couple of internal mesh pockets for things like a cap.

The only time I had a massive bag, it was the Albion AX Pro Wheelie, which is 105cm x 44cm x 36 cm. It went on a ten day tour with me and was big enough to be my suitcase as well as my Cricket Bag.

You must find these silly questions rather entertaining...but don't your clothes, towel etc get a bit nasty, being mixed up with sweaty helmet, pads etc?

Comes back to how you pack. Pads down the sides, helmet in it's bag with gloves and box nestled in the self made compartment, astro shoes, strippers and stuff in the middle, kit folded on top of the stuff in the middle. Grass shoes in the shoe compartment, and bits and pieces including wash bag, towel, etc in the side pocket. Tight, but it works fine.

After the match I don't care about whether sweaty pads intermingle with sweaty clothes. And any good cricketer leaves their pads/gloves/helmet lying aorund to dry out before repacking their bag!

makes sense mate. drying out pads etc more of an issue during winter nets - part of the reason i want a smaller bag, i can just unzip the main pocket and let things air out - much more of a pain with a multi tiered bag.

what is this "self made compartment" you are referring to?

I find it easier to have a bag with a separate compartment for your 'normal' clothes / clean towel and a big compartment for all your smelly kit.

Put the helmet in its bag and then what's the interior of the helmet is a useful "compartment".

Fair enough.. would you say the tri-wheel is an easy fit into most car trunks? Easy to take on train too? If the answer is "no", then I may have to scale down to the one you mentioned.

The pod pro is a pain on the train. The pod one will be worse.

I can highly recommend the T2  it is a great bag, I can fit a Newbery Zeus Long blade, boots, Clothes, gloves. balls, set of stumps . wash bag & a couple of bottles of Harvey's Ale , without out any issue at all. I play Blind Cricket so No need for pads but it does stand up incredibly well to the battering of Public transport across the country.

i gotta have a bat cave - too scared of not protecting my bats when i pack them in the main section. think i'll go with the tri-wheel.. seems only marginally larger than the pod-pro..and i like the suitcase handle, separate helmet section.. though, why the heck wouldn't they put an outside zip section on the tri wheel ??!!

I personally prefer a one section bag and put my bats in the main compartment. I maintain that putting bats in a bat sleeve and padding them with sorts and towels is better protection than a bat cave of a bag.
Each to their own though.
