As the title, guys - what else do you want to see from our YouTube channel?
Please reply with your suggestions! Is there anything in particular that you want to see in future, or is there something within videos themselves that need improving? For example, we had a great comment earlier on in the GN1000 duffle bag thread about not showing enough of the bag itself, so am hoping to get similar comments on here.
The channel needs to keep developing and improving, and we can't do that without knowing exactly what you, the viewer, wants to see, so please help! :)

Better camera work more focuesed on the presenters.
We love you and Chris, but better views of the product are always good.
Short previews as well as long.
Different people like different things. I can sit and watch you ten minute bat reviews, but I try to show them to some team mates, and there bored after a few minutes.
So maybe do a short review, and a long review of each product.
-
I think no more than 5 mins for a review.
And a set of calipers for the spine height measurements.
Guest reviewers (the Fat Cat? University chum & England reject Nick Compton?)
Maybe the price on the strapline at the start of the video?
And less foreboding music.
Otherwise, keep on keeping on.
-
how about a link in your message footer?
-
more regular upload haha, love your video Paul, couldnt ask for much more
-
Less loud mallet banging!! Also would love to see a review on aero p2 inners
-
maybe tapping the bat with a ball aswell, just because from past experience a bat can sound great with a mallet and not with a ball and in some cases ive had bats sound crap with a mallet but sound and ping very well when bouncing a ball on!
-
Loving the idea of short and long videos for the same product. I will need to learn how not to waffle though, that may be pretty tricky!! :-[

Cheers, Tony. We have done this in a few videos, but it's the minority, and you're right, there can be a difference, so we will try and do it more.

Have a clock running behind the camera so you know what timing you are on, and have a basic script and plan for the time so you have structure and it'll flow nicely and should stop you waffling (if that's what you do).
-
Maybe its just me, but I would love to see zero emphasis on the decals (or maybe leave that for the very end). I find myself skipping the intros because to me, the decals (at least on bats) are irrelevant.
-
Love the videos, really useful to actually see an item and hear an informed opinion rather than endlessly staring at the same stock images trying to get a feel for a bit of kit. However, if I have one request its about bag reviews, all reviewers from all sources (not just you guys!), focus on how many sets of pads/gloves/keeping kit etc you can get in a bag but there rarely much on the practical aspects such as where your towel and washbag is going to go especially when wet or what your supposed to do with your whites/warm up gear whatever. If you could add this in it would give you a lead over the other guys, for me anyway :)
Cheers for all the vids and keep up the good work, even if you think my idea is a non starter I'll still be watching

Pimp yourself out get a sponsorship Carbonn Kamell Equipment review
You have quite a strong following maybe some sponsorship on it....
-
Hi paul,
I love your video's. I get a little thrill when they pop up in my subscipton box :-[
Dont stop your long video's. Short ones dont satisfy me and longer more detailed reviews make me want to buy things more.
IMO chris isnt very good at bat reviews but is great at the softs. You seem to be the opposite much better at bat video's
I have said it before but a ping rating would be great as it is hard to gauge the ping over a video and to compare with other bats.
Also sometimes the camera isnt level with the bat when you are showing concaving and it is hard to see
Please,Please keep doing these video's
Thanks
-
Keep up the long videos, i really like the 10-20 minute bat reviews.
-
I think these vids are great, and yes, which is more to the point, they have influenced me to buy stuff from IJC, so they work.
I think comparisons of bats from the same maker are always interesting, the review of the Salix Pod Players and the Pod performance side by side was a fine example. It persuaded me to go and have a look at the performance, which was swiftly followed by getting my wallet out.
-
I too look out and forward for new uploads on the IJC channel. They've been an insight into many different profile styles, pressing techniques and introduced me to some new brands.
My only suggestion would be to invest in a much better fluid head (for your tripod) and to improve the camera persons focus pull technique :)
-
Have a bat off!
Get a net at the oval and take a selection of knocked in bats down, you use each bat and Chris uses each bat, and you can give your info on, how well it picks up and flows in a playing environment, how easy it is to find the middle, how much vibration throughout he handle. How well it seems to go when you find the middle.
But dont just pick one random bat from each manufacturer! Say take 3 h4ls in, one g3 one g2 and a pro. And then tell people if it is worth buying the pro, or if the g3 goes and feels just as good!
You obviously can't do that regularly. But a pre season review each year like that would be ace.
-
I like your videos, very knowledgable , if i have to rate between yours and Jasons 10/10 for you and 7/10 for Jason. :)
-
Less loud mallet banging!! Also would love to see a review on aero p2 inners
I bought some from Paul a couple of days ago, they are great. They take a little while to get used to the padding but after a couple of minutes they feel very comfortable. I kept in the nets on Wednesday (stood up obviously) against some of our quicks and the padding really helps, particularly on the fingers. Barely felt a thing when I inevitably poked a couple.
-
Agree with some of the comments on here, shorter videos would advantageous as well as focusing more on the products. However that depends on your analytics and how long users are spending time watching your reviews.
-
Paul I don't know how much space you have in the shop, but maybe the use of a table for reviewing stuff like bags might come in handy so the camera can be in a fixed position.

His shop is tiny.
-
Yep, it's central London, guys - if we had a large shop, the rent alone could easily be £5K+ per month... :(
Thanks for all these clever suggestions, guys! Appreciate you taking the time to inspire us! We will take it all on board and you may well see some of these ideas applied on the channel very soon, so stay tuned! :)

A video tour of the shop would be interesting
-
For those that order on the net, I reckon it would be great to know where the balance point on a cricket bat is - just like a tennis racquet is described as 6 pts head-light for example.
You could do this by moving a bat on a stick of some sort (eg a stump fastened onto a bench) until it reaches the point where it is balanced on said stick. Then measure where this balance point is relative to the top of the handle (or the toe). That gives viewers an objective reference to how a bat may pick up based on its weight and balance point, to go with your subjective feedback on pickup.
It's probably going to be time consuming but may be beneficial to bat nerds like me who can't come in and physically pick up a bat. But it will also set you apart from others... Just a thought! :)
-
Hi Paul first of all I am a fan of your videos. One point for improvement would be in my opinion reviewing one bat in a series and calling it the brand name model name review for example. Then in your videos explaining the differences between the bats across the range eg willow grade and saying we have this bat in stock. Do this instead as you will save time and be able to stop people asking for a certain review.
-
I for one would like to see the new legend bag if you have it :)
-
Paul
Between you and Aldred I am getting an amazing education - much thanks!
Cheers
Mark
-
Hi Paul
Any chance of a video for the 2014 Newbery test batting gloves?
Cheers
-
I have noticed that at least one of the earlier videos of bags weren't done when they were fully loaded, so they don't actually show how big the bag is. So maybe revisiting these bags loaded with kit could be a good idea?
-
I need to watch more of these videos!
Tend to watch the ones for products i'm considering to buy.
Do you do reviews often?
So price range say of £40 for gloves, showing 3 sets giving information for the consumer to make his mind up
-
First of all thanks for the video's I think they are great to watch.
What I would love to see is a (yearly) video where the "flagships" are compared.
kahuna, kudos, etc. all together tested on pickup, ping, etc.
-

We haven't stocked these yet, hence the lack of a review, but will certainly do one when we get them in later on...
-
Hello paul.
Current videos, may just be me, but I am finding them hard to watch. The zoom is just going to close to the product. And as such when Chris moves his hands(which he does when he talks) the product moves out of shot instantly, but the camera can't follow.
It is nice to have a zoom on certain parts to show detail, but having products such as pads fully in shot would be much better IMO. Please go easy on the zoom.
I am presuming the new over zoom is down to me saying in a bag vid it showed too much of Chris, this was only due to not being able to see the bag when he was removing things in that one video,
We all like Chris, and are happy to have him in shot for bags gloves and pads. Just needed the product to be in shot with him.
Currently the zoom seems an attempt to remove Chris completely.
Woman everywhere will be so Dissapointed........
-
Having the weights on the new 5 best bats video would be good
-
I love the videos but for me it would be something like this.Say for example you are reviewing gray nicolls powerbow have all the bats from the range out but review the 5star fully.Same with oblivion but review the LE.Maverick but review the players etc etc.Say a few words about all the others that are there but as the shapes should all be the same you could just concentrate on one bat per range. Maybe with gloves/pads you could get the full range out.I.e get all the Kookaburra kahunas out from entry level to top end and do a few mins on each one.
-

i think this would be a brilliant addition to your offering in general, Paul! When I ordered my Persona off Marcus at Affinity, he asked me for the balance point of my current Scat (something I had never thought of before). When my Persona arrived, it suited me perfectly! This is probably more useful especially for someone ordering over the net as they can compare the balance points to their existing bat and would help avoid disappointment when their new stick arrives.

I like the idea, but can't quite get my head around it! Can somebody explain more clearly, please, perhaps with a photo of it being done?

It's like trying to balance a spoon (bad example i know) on your you have to hold it nearer the head, that's the concept. The idea is you do it with the bat and find where it lies flat on the balancing pole mark the point of balance and measure how far up the blade it is. The theory is the further up the blade the better the pick up. Then you could compare bats with a similar middle positions and the one with the highest balance point has the best pickup
-
I love the videos from IJC specially Paul. I think a 8-10 min video for a bat is more than enough and doing a pretty good job.
A video about different type of handles and their impact on bats performance would be nice.....love the top 5 bat videos and always felt they are chosen honestly:)
-
Please could you do a video of the Kookaburra Pro Players Duffle when you get them in? Really want to get a decent look at that bad boy!
-
Enjoy all the videos especially the bat reviews looking foreward to the October 2015 top five senior bats also would like to see a review of 2015 senior bats up to and including 2lb - 8 ounces.
-
You should also do the top 5 value for money bats as well...
-
You should also do the top 5 value for money bats as well...
Yeah something like this or top 5 under 100/150 quid.
-
Do your own detailed “best gear review” like A.O.C, for bats, pads, gloves, and kit bags!
-
What I would like to see is a way to benchmark a bat's performance so that you can compare bats objectively in your videos. Bat manufacturers will probably not like your videos but your patrons/consumers would love the information. I don't know how you would accomplish that but if you can solve this problem you would make consumers like me, who have no access to cricket shops, very happy.

This has been discussed many times on here and faces two issues.
1. Producing a simple test is pretty difficult
2. The test that you do on a bat in the shop is not a good indicator of how well a bat will perform when you use it.
-
Bats are so personal in any case that a lot of the comparisons would be meaningless?
One note on bag videos - I'm on the lookout for a new bag at the moment and your videos are helpful, however it would be good to see them focus more on the actual bag and less on what particular kit you have in it! It is helpful to see what fits in, but I'm not fussed what make/model/rrp pads you happen to be using and it makes the videos longer than they need to be. More focus on the bags would be good - e.g. on an 'external' pocket on a duffle - is it an actual external pocket, or merely a division of the bag, is a pocket waterproof material in the case of a boot pocket, is it padded, etc. This would be much more informative than 'it has this pocket, in which I've put the brand new xxx gloves from xxx, available for £xx.99'. Keep up the good work though!

point of it is to sell :)
By saying new xxx gloves from xxx, available for xxx from us is pretty much why it's there.
-
Oh yeah I know that of course, but I'd rather they tried to sell me the bag! If I want gloves/pads from them etc I'll be watching the relevant videos! Don't object to it completely (after all, we all like to see new kit) but I have seen the odd one where there seems to be 2 minutes worth of banging on about irrelevant kit, maybe a quick plug for the range and mention the relevant video/whatever before moving on with the review in hand would be a better way.

Well, seeing as he is out on a beach in Oz, Chris has handed over bag review duties to me, so this will change! :) Did my first one yesterday (Newbery Kudos wheelie). Pretty sure I spoke much more about the bag than the contents, but you can be the judge when the video goes live (along with seven others) later in the week...
Thanks for your feedback!
-
When you do the measurements, lets also measure the toe!
-
Whilst I enjoy the videos a lot, I'm noticing a pattern that I find irritating. You keep reviewing top of the range cricket bats, that retail £300+. Not a lot of people I know are going to spend that kind of cash on a cricket bat in my eyes, I would like to see more reviews on bats (as well as other kit) in the mid range price bracket, as it seems a little more realistic. Sorry if it seems crude, but that's my 2 cents.
-
Hi Paul
Great feedback.
I agree a more structured approach for consistency to bat reviews.
I like the top. 5.
What about an entire brands review for their coming season?
Cheers
Mark

Thanks, Mark. Good feedback. Whole brand review sounds good, it just depends on our stock as we rarely carry the entire range from any of our suppliers at any one given time.

Good point, thanks. Had a few people say the same. We tend to just review one bat shape once, so for example with the Kookaburra bats, we did the Instinct and Verve in the Players grade only, as the top grade is probably the fairest way to portray a range i.e. to see it in its best light. However, I am thinking of doing separate reviews for the lower-mid ranges in the near future.
-
How about doing 3 bats (or any other type of gear) in one review and comparing against each other? But like what aoc do in their magazine every month. Something slog the lines of 3 bats all similar grade/prices but with different middle positions
-
Cricket Girls Gone Wild videos? :D
-
Paul, quick kudos. I like that you listen to others ideas try to implement them and improve the set up.
Obviously not all worked, and a swift return to original idea has happened on some. But it's nice to know some out there do listen to others.
Keep it up!

Thanks, Chris. Good to hear. Believe it or not, I wasn't much of a YouTube watcher before starting our channel, and I'm still not really, so I am still learning what people do and don't want to see. Quite a lot of our videos are put up purely because we get asked to do them, with only a small few being ideas of our own. The way I see it, as we aren't the ones watching, our view is less important than that of those who do...

Interesting concept of self promotion here.
I was surprised at the comment of not being able to tell the quality of GM & NB bats. Seems a bit of an odd statement to make publicly.

I'll be honest, I found this video neither entertaining or informative.
It did make me wonder how busy IJC are if they can take a nearly 20 minute video (plus retakes, editing etc.) but that's neither here nor there.
Personally I'd prefer to see actual kit reviews than things like this, but that's just me...

I find I have nothing positive to say, so best to say nothing.

It was bizarre.

It's a series of bits and pieces that Amos does. It's gone down very well with our customers both here and overseas. Part of a mini-series of sketches including Yorskhireman etc.
Basically the concept was to not be toooo salesly in all our videos. The Custom bat video was said to be too pushy and salesy, and so this is meant to be a bit of light hearted fun.
Won't be for everyone - but it's something different.
RE shooting and everything. We get in at 830 in the morning to open at 930, we shut at 1830, and we shoot and edit these videos until about 830 at night. It's a 12 hour day almost every single day. We definitely are very busy!
-
The danger with this approach is that for every "Like" you get a lot more people will be turned off and spread that message to their friends. I like the review videos but this is a bit self-indulgent and weird.

I'm not a yorkshireman but I lived there and I can't see anybody being very impressed with Amos doing impersonations. In fact I would say you are alienating the biggest county in England. Personally I would concentrate on keeping content fresh and having something to show, even if it isn't directly a sales push. Trying to be too clever doesn't go down well with old people like me.
-
Two words... Poor Form
-
Stick to the reviews IJC!
-
I thought his comments when offered the Fosters were pretty well what most Aussies would say in the same situation... lighten up, its just a bit of fun.
-
On a side note, please, please, please stop having little indirect digs at other companies in your videos. If you/they don't want to work with one another then that's fine, just stop making such a fuss about it - it's just embarrassing!

This was my issue with the video. You can't bring into question two brands because they don't allow hand picking. I have seen many of a GM and NB that look amazing.
-
I actually quite like it..
-
I actually quite like it..
I agree, I quite enjoyed the awkward aussie video
-
Definitely not for me but easy to ignore these and watch the review videos only.
-
Trying to be too clever doesn't go down well with old people like me.
Is your age the issue?
-
For me it's relatively simple.
We are trying something different which people like. The forum is tiny - it makes up about 0.1% of our viewership on YouTube, so we simply cannot base our major decisions on anything that comes up here. With that being said, we do take on board certain suggestions we like.
If you don't like them - don't click play on them! Easy as that. At the end of the day - the views speak for themselves. The Awkward Aussie has over 3,000 views - some of our best viewing figures!
You may not agree with them, but they're getting results!
-
Why do we have to worry about how much time IJC spends on their videos? In that case we are no different...wasting time on CB :)
-
Out of interest, does YouTube record how much of a video users watch or simply that they have clicked on it?
-
I think they do, you will be surprised how much data they keep ;)
-
So 3,000 views is up there with your best viewing figures. The forum makes up 0.1% of your YouTube viewers, that would mean only 3 CBF members had viewed it.
From the comments here that doesn't seem to be the case, but let's gloss over that.
I like that you are trying different things, but if the response, even if it is only a small percentage of viewers, mainly moaning (a CBF given, seeing as we're a miserable bunch) it may be a snapshot of general consensus. Then again, it may not, can we be considered "normal" on here?
Out of curiosity I looked at the viewing figures, which was around 3,100 view, 57 likes, 13 dislikes and no comments (using the Android app so I may not be able to see everything). This implies to me that a lot of people have clicked it, but most may not have watched it through to the end. It may have put them to sleep like the Aussie did Paul.
Anyway, enough rambling from me. I just like numbers and wanted an excuse to talk about then...
-
Out of interest, does YouTube record how much of a video users watch or simply that they have clicked on it?
Yes, and where they are in the world and which website they might have clicked a link from and what else they view.
-
I don't mind the video, not my cup of tea but I won't watch it. There's lots of weird stuff on YouTube.
IJC probably know it's not going to make everyone laugh, hence why comments are disabled.
-
Out of interest, does YouTube record how much of a video users watch or simply that they have clicked on it?
Roughly speaking, just the video being loaded counts as a view below 300 and then a certain number of seconds played (<10) after that if I remember right, although YouTube aren't that publicly specific about it to try and avoid bots.
Also pshh, 3000 views is one of the best? Even I have a YT video with 2200+ views, come on IJC ;)
-
I really like the videos but I feel the quality has dipped a little in recent months. I much preferred the old format.
-
So 3,000 views is up there with your best viewing figures. The forum makes up 0.1% of your YouTube viewers, that would mean only 3 CBF members had viewed it.
From the comments here that doesn't seem to be the case, but let's gloss over that.
Checkmate...
Also, if you honestly think that all of the views on a youtube video equate to positive feedback then you're being incredibly naive! Out of those 3,000 views you're probably looking, at best, around 5/10% that will have actually sat and watched the whole video
-
I'm talking in general about our customer base. Over 3 million views now I believe so certainly reaches a larger audience.
I just looked up the analytics. People spend far longer watching the Aussie video, on average, than they do other videos, like bags or pads etc. Just proves that it is working.
Understand the feedback - but the numbers suggest it is working - and besides,it's a big of fun for us to film as well!
PS. I have no say in these videos. I do not shoot them, suggest them, edit them, or anything. I'm at uni leaving this to Paul and Amos, and they may not be my favourites, but I see why they do them, and can fully understand and support that.

-
Just watched the Aussie one - I realise that you wont buy if you cant handpick but can't you just receive bats from NB and GM and select from them? btw i enjoyed the video! :)
-
Not sure i really have an opinion either way, but there are an awful lot of people on the forum who don't seem to like IJC as a shop, yet seem to spend a lot of time following what they do. i wouldn't say i was some sort of super happy chappy, but I sure don't see the point in writing multiple posts criticising a business I don't use.
i appreciate their a sponsor here which maybe makes them fair game, but most of the replies seem unnecessarily negative to me.
-
Didn't mind the video, not a fan either.
BTW I can't see them having a go/dig at other brands(GM and NB ?) , he is simply stating the fact they don't allow handpicking so they don't stock them , what's wrong with that? Good on them for sticking with their principles tbh, if they stock GM or NB then surely they will sell regardless if they were handpicked or not but sticking with their principles is quite nice to see.

In all fairness, IJC does a great job on honest bat and gear reviews. My teammate and I bought 6 bats from them so far, and they haven't disappointed us yet. Obviously, those videos were really helpful and Paul gives really honest reviews out of any other cricket reviewers on YouTube in my opinion. I think people outside of UK appreciate them more :)

I don't find any other Youtube channel which reviews cricket gear in such details. Bought 3 bats plus a lot of other gear from IJC and always found customer service to be excellent.
IJC, Eclipse All sports & Jason Mallet are the best when it comes to cricket gear reviews. I don't understand the negativity towards IJC lately and if they don't want to carry certain brands then its their decision.

I love their video reviews. Its as fun as reading bat reviews here on the forum. Isn't that why we all signed up to the forum anyway - to see kit?

Love the reviews, analysis and chance to see products in detail. Just not so sure about the recent comedy efforts.

There does seem to be alot of negative views about IJC lately, seems a bit unwarranted to be honest. The videos are meant to be a bit of fun, are they funny? Not overly but they are meant to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Like was said earlier I don't think they were having a dig at companies for not letting them handpick at all, at the end of the day if your USP is handpicking and you have not handpicked them then I am sure alot of the keyboard warriors on here would jump all over them for that too.

Amen. Seems to be a lot of negative comments out of spite towards IJC lately. A few need to brush the chips off their shoulders methinks.

A reminder to all; you don't have to watch these videos...

I watched it to see what the fuss was about... I want that 15 minutes of my life back!
;)

Agreed! This "lets beat up IJC" is getting boring; give the guys a break and if you don't like their videos, shop, ethos etc then just ignore it.

You found out! The price was 15 minutes. You got what you wanted :)

100% agree. I get a chance to see a bat I probably can't afford and hear what is normally a balanced appraisal. It is to generate a sale and i dont feel pressured to buy. I think the videos are great for publisicing what is available and letting the market decide. Having now refurbed a IJC bat here in oz I think i'd feel some assurance seeing their sticker on a bat. When you love your job you do it well.
Opinions are like belly buttons everyone has one, but you can look stupid constantly exposing them publically.
Peace..drop mic....feedback....

On the actual topic of youtube cricket reviews, I'm more of a fan of the GCC videos - shorter, to the point, give you the information you need and an opinion on the product without any of the sales "you can buy it here for 134.67" etc. More professional too with a fixed camera etc. Yes they're less comprehensive, but the standard of cricket YT reviews on the whole isn't high, so short and sweet is good for me.
I'll probably watch the IJC video if there is one on an item I'm thinking of buying, but if I'm being harsh they're very rambling and the off the cuff style/editing isn't great - always a long monologue and too frequently the camera isn't sure whether to point at the presenter or the product. Cricket reviews are a big contrast with the very popular world of YT vape reviewers (using an example I watch a lot of), where there's a very set format used by most - introduce the item being reviewed, closeup shots with all the details/features, then reviewer's opinions and usually a comparison against competing items. Vape reviewers are 90% private individuals with no sales agenda though which helps of course with removing some of the bias and also driving up the professionalism as they're competing with other reviewers, don't think we'll ever see that kind of independent reviewing in cricket though sadly. Although there's no reason why not!

Never watch any of the reviews, watched about 2 mins ish of this (skipping through randomly to see if it got better).. Will I watch another.. No.. Would I have anyway.. No. So realistically nothing lost . Just thought I'd look given this topic.
Still the end of the day, the majority of people have their chosen retailer to get kit from and no amount of sales pitches, videos etc will change it.. Generally only price. From the more normal guys I know, price is simply the only thing they look for, couldn't care less about ping, customer service (as long as they get what they asked for in reasonable time then they are happy)
Just because person a says x retailer picks top willow over another is Just a sales pitch from them about their chosen register so very rarely will things not be biased.. Even if you ask someone on here they will subconsciously be biased

Dreadful video. Stick to reviews!

Thanks for the (mostly) recent kind words!
Must also add that the character videos are amongst the most liked ones we have - so it once again goes to show how the forum is atypical of our consumer base - and why we can't plan around it whatsoever.
If people like the reviews only - watch the reviews only. We've put up plenty of them up - we're averaging about 4 a week this year - so there's no shortage!
