If you've only just got it, take it back to whoever you bought it from. Looks like it's a fault rather than anything you may / may not have done.

Unless you missed a straight one and lamped something in the changing rooms, in which case, definitely your fault!

Most brands say yorker damage isn't covered by their warranties, the cherry on the toe guard isn't going to help your case!

Does  anyone else leave Yorkers in nets or just me?

Very hard sports hall floor? Or your bat? Guess which one will give first

Yep, generally just let them through of someone wants to waste time bowling them

Waste their time!?  :o  the bowlers at my team are told to practice yorkers in the nets!

How is bowling a yorker a waste of time? When I bat, I encourage bowlers to try york me from time to time... In the end, their job is to try get batsmen out.

Anyways, back on topic, was it a bat breaker that caused this? I guess bats get damaged from time to time, just the nature of the willow. Your best bet is to try get in contact with the retailer and get them to get in contact with GM.

Does Malinga practices yorks at sangakarra? No. He puts it where he's told to.

He then practices Yorkers at shoes,

But if you lot are happy breaking bats in indoor nets, then keep encouraging the Yorkers.

To say bowling yorkers in the nets isn't quite right. I love to bowl the yorker and it is a weapon I utilise in games, nets is a good place to practice them and if a bat brakes it is thoroughly unlucky but it's just how the cookie crumble.
That isn't to say i'm not sympathetic to the original poster as if this happened to my bat i'd be quite 'cheesed' off and his Octane looks like a nice bat.

I think its just bad luck. If you are batting in the nets, you'd want to face a few yorkers as well to practice against them. I will admit though that I have left a few in the past for the fear of damaging my bat. Maybe this goes back to that argument on whether you should use one bat for nets (say a cheaper one) and another for matches (your best or favorite one).

Practise in a net without a batsmen in then, I hate club nets for these sorts of reasons. Bowlers want to know your block off or york which tbh, is little to no training for a batsmen. If you want to do yorkas then do it in a bowling net. Batting nets should be done mainly for the batsmen. Bowlers just do line and length which given most players are (No Swearing Please) will result in a mix of slightly short or full bowling.

Bowling nets are where you do the specific skill training like bouncers, yorkas etc

A weapon? ITS BLOODY NETS not a game, nets mean jack all

Its why I have a high density, POS net bat which is the same weight and profile as my match bat.

We have 3s players occasionally turning up to our nets with their Slazenger Bat Breaker Edition balls - Not worth risking a Laver or Millichamp on that!

Anyway I shall call in the morning and see what the retailers say......... I will let you all know

For me that's not Yorker damage. That would be the tell tale dent in the toe or split up the toe.

This could well have been a mistimed square cut the place where the damage is, it's one inch from the toe.

Call them up, tell them your bat has split about one inch up on the edge.

GM should take care of you, they are big enough to write this off. Looks like the willow is very dry. Might want to oil the edges and back of your bats when they are that dry...

Isn't the cherry on the toe guard enough  :D?

it didnt split where the cherry is, therefore its even worse in my opinion. You hit the ball in one place and it splits in another means there was something wrong, in this case it was very dry probably because of the plastic face

if it was me i'd offer a refund/swap

I was in owzat end of last season, and they and 3 broken octaves there that looked very very dry.

Are they over dried for there size? Or just people taking gm now as ready and mot oiling them at all?

Chuff me, there's enough batsmen moaning about Yorkers in the nets as though it were heresy. For most people playing club cricket, there is a nets session, where you bowl. You practice what you can in that. As a bowler, it would strike me that Yorkers would be a good thing to practice.

If you don't like it fine, but may clubs don't have the luxury of a dozen nets and multiple occasions a week, so berating bowling Yorkers seems a little unfair to me...

Now, back on topic!

So after having a phone call from GM saying my new bat was ready today I decided to
Go to Nottingham to pick it up directly! I have to give credit to gm they were pretty quick with this replacement and there was no hesitation to replace it for me! It's weighing in again at 2.8 and I have to say again this seems massive for the weight!

If I'm stupid enough to wear the breaks down to that level, do I sound capable of doing fixing them myself :p haha
