Title: Countdown to the Cricket Season
Post by: uknsaunders on March 11, 2014, 08:45:33 AM
39 days until our first game. Looking forward to it. For me it's a race to get my back operating at 100%, at the moment it's restricting my batting and bowling. Hopefully if I keep on at the exercises I'll be fighting fit in a month's time  :)

We have outdoor nets starting early April and 2 friendlies to warm up for league cricket. We managed to get relegated and promoted over the winter, so back in the same division for another year. How is everyone else getting on with pre-season preparation?

Pre season prep going well mate

Indoor nets started before Xmas so we have been indoor once a week for a few months now.. eager beavers.

Personally I have been working really hard on my batting this winter - shot selection mainly and patience. Also done a lot of work on Leg spin bowling. Changed my grip, action and approach and it all seems to be coming together just at the right time. Found it extremely difficult to get a consistent length going up until about last week, and last nights net was a really positive one on both fronts.

We have 2 friendlies lined up for 12th and 13th April with the season starting the week after. Very much looking forward to it this year, more so than usual as well! Brand new cricket club in our first League and Cup competition season. Lots of gossip and rumour flying around as well which is always good :D Just want March to hurry up and bugger off and the sun to come out... and stay out until October!!

By Warwickshire standards we've done loads of netting, since the beginning of Jan. Feels like it will pay dividends when we start playing.

Been netting every week as a club since late Jan.  Been organising my own for mates since about october, but that's once a month.

First league game is a grudge match on 10th May.  Probably have a few friendlies between now and then

I've done nothing apart from work, lose sleep and change nappies due to the arrival of my second child recently.   I have missed indoor league and nets so far.  Not looking good for the start of the season so far. Hopefully I'll be able to get a couple of nets in, but looks like I am going into the season unfit and under prepared this year.

We've been netting every week since the first week of January and I had an hour on the bowling machine at Choice cricket centre on Sunday. Got a preseason tour to Malta lined up in the middle of April and then our first game is on the 26th April.

Play hard and them have a laugh after!

I'm looking forward to Andy Timms batting(if he plays)banter is good indoor, and he's yet to score a run against us in 3 games in whites! Lol(granted they were for hundall).

I have 24 players currently after a game. Could be an interesting challenge just whittling that down.

Had 6 weeks worth of nets, batting is feeling great, something I've been looking to impress with so I can force my way into the top 5 for the start of the season. Bowling I've been taking it easy. No more nets until outdoor training starts now so knowing my luck it will all go to pot by then. First friendly is 12th April

Going to undertake my 1st net on Sunday as I have been given the go ahead by the surgeon who repaired my meniscus cartilage torn when landing in my delivery stride when bowling last august. Advised not to bowl again.

First game on the 12th April.. Not one sat or sun till the forts sat in Oct is free :).. Should have about 2-3 midweek games per week too.. Woo

Been netting since cot, twice a week so tbh I'm firing. Worked on two new shots this winter as well as lost weight, got fit (well not as fit as I used to be but that'd be bloody hard) so should be fine for 2000+ runs is year again.

I think our first friendly is the Easter weekend, assuming it doesn't rain much between now and then.

If what I'm hearing is correct then I could end up having a pre-season game against one of the members on here, playing against ManorManic, followed by first league game against another, Gingerbusiness.

Individual nets every other week at Vitas since December, just had two club nets on Friday evenings and I'm really feeling the benefit of the individual nets - feel much more balanced in my stance, timing balls onto the leg side and more consistent in my driving and leaving the ball.  I'll be doing the same post-season this year as well.

The only thing affecting me at the moment is injuries I'm picking up through London Marathon training - tight Achilles meaning I can't bowl too much in the nets (that's no bad thing!) and blisters are an inconvenience...

First game is 3rd May, before that we have outdoor nets, an inter-club friendly and some batting and bowling workshops from a couple of ex-Northants pros in late April

We've been netting since November. I'm now netting twice weekly.

Batting is feeling really good. Well grooved and all bats knocked in and feeling great. The long blade H4L is just jaw dropping. It's amazing how easier I find batting with the ability to stand taller. Much less stress on my back and a whole lot less pain. Happy days.

Bowling is different. For the first time sine I was 26 I can bowl seamers. Many years of surgery and some serious gym work and I'm feeling 20 years younger. Even my finger spinners are coming out well.

Can't wait until the season starts. Not sure when, the committee are slow in releasing the fixtures.

played indoor from october to january and have been netting since for about 6 weeks. seem to be hitting the ball cleanly and feet are moving. Bowling wise i need to do some more work. its been a while as ive kept wicket for the last few years but last weeks bowling seemed to be coming out nicely. Still need some work on my wrist but not too bad. hoping to get outdoors start of april.

first game of the season is 26th April. still seems miles away!

We have a few friendlys lined up for early April before season starts on the 19th. I'm gutted though after finding out last week that I can't resume running for another 4 month's due to the surgery I had in October. Hopefully I could be ok just to have net sessions batting but it will be awful not being able to play a game until mid July at the earliest  >:(

Been netting since Nov and first game sat 12 April. Personally can't see many games being played that early but stranger things have happened I'm told.

If clubs get the prep work done and keep wickets etc  covered them there is no reason why not (excluding rain on the day etc). I do t get why more clubs do t play from the start of apr to end of sept.. Even oct is getting ok forms few games now!

Our square had it's first cut yesterday and the groundsman was working on it today, hopefully we'll get all our games in (weather permitting obviously)

As for nets we were netting outside to late September and then started indoors mid October. There was about a 3 week gap over Xmas but we've not really stopped netting since last season.

Unfortunately playing looks like it may be out of the window this season due to sudden employment. But that means the season starts even earlier 26th March.

Most clubs don't play so early and late because even with covers,  the outfield is often unplayable and many share grounds with other sports that doesn't help this.

Add to that the increased likelihood of rain/cold at these times and it just isn't worth the hassle of trying to arrange fixtures.

I have played a game in October before.

Our wicket should be ready to go for April 5th providing no more major weather. If you have a decent, well maintained ground and a good (or even just a keen) groundsman, you can do amazing things.

We played an early April friendly in 2013, the week before the game there was snow on the wicket. In the second innings when I was batting the wicket actually crumbled up!

Had my 1st outdoor net of the season last night at Kidderminster CC with Worcester Seniors, batted okay until I played a flashy off drive  to an inswinger and was bowled....
