Hello all,
Myself and Robin have settled on a tour to either Blackpool or Brighton. We are looking first of all for some general info on clubs to play against in those areas.
Any help would be appreciated.
Indeed, if anyone on the forum represents a club that would be willing to take a bunch of beered up idiots for a day of drinkng, eating, laughs and maybe some cricket, please get in touch.
Our tour is almost certain to be August 4-7th, and we would be looking for fixtures (typically long format; 40/50 overs or even a timed game) on the 4th, 5th and 6th of August.
Many thanks,
Jake

If you wanted to come up to Scotland I'm sure we can organize some games for you!!
-
Not quite where you had in mind, but we're on the South Coast, drop me a PM if you'd like more info and I'll put you in touch with our fixtures secretary from there :)
-
OK, so i got very little joy (aka no response) from clubs based in our first choice which was Blackpool. Having looked at some of the clubs in and around Brighton, i am hoping we can get some fixtures arranged there, many of the grounds look lovely.
I have fired off some emails, any forum help would be appreciated.

If you decide on Blackpool I play for st annes cc. I'm sure we could get a team together!
-
come to sunny cheltenham.. You get the delights of.... uummmm.. oohhh..
ummm.. a few old buildings
ok, stick to your two places of choice :(

We toured Brighton about 3 years ago now and had a great time. We only had one game in and around Brighton itself which was against Rottingdean, who were a great bunch of lads and a lovely ground to boot. The other two teams we played were a bit of a trek from Brighton - Crowborough and Hailsham. We played Hailsham during their cricket week and had a good time, especially as the social club across the road had £1 pints on to celebrate their cricket week! They were also drinking before the game with us and continued drinking games afterwards with them.

Brighton is Class. Good nights out, if you fancy playing some cricket there are alot of good clubs in Surrey/Sussex too, which is only 30/45 mins away. :D
-
If you're coming down to Brighton I can recommend a few clubs to speak to who have decent grounds/nice people etc.
Decent Clubs in Brighton:
St Peters Cricket Club - right in the middle of brighton - nice bunch.
St Matthias Play at Sussex Uni.
Best grounds I know around the area:
Preston Nomads. Lovely ground just near Fulking village. Excellent facilities etc. Just on the north side of Devils dyke. 5 mins from Brighton.
Ditchling CC - again a brilliant ground.
Southwick Wanderers. They play at Plumpton College (15 mins drive from Brighton to the North East) - lovely place to play - facilities a bit shoddy, but very nice bunch.
Some a bit further away:
Findon Cricket Club play at a lovely ground at Long Ferlong. 30 mins west of Brighton.
Chichester Priory Cricket Club sometime play matches at Goodwood - which is a very impressive ground with the famous goodwood house overlooking it all. An hour east of Brighton.
West Wittering have a really nice ground. But its a bit out of the way south of Chichester.
I'd suggest playing us - but we're fully booked all through the season for our teams. And our ground is not lovely!
-
Many thanks, i've already contacted most of those clubs. I didn't bother with Ditchling as they have a cricket week with a full set of fixtures already.
There were a couple on your list i did not know about so i have contacted them. :)
-
If your short jake I'll come for a game with you.
-
We won't be short but you are more than welcome mate.
Gotta get some fixtures first!
-
Change of plan after drawing a total blank with Brighton and Blackpool.
I've enlisted ProCricketer1982 for help with Cheltenham. 2 fixtures lined up already, great stuff. Maybe a side business for you mate?

Redders and uksaunders mob is close by, maybe they might fancy a game :)

More the merrier. Consult Simmy on the levels of pre, post and even during match drinking and antics we engage in though, it can get messy!

Ever thought of coming to sunny Holland?
Easy to get to. Enough clubs in or near the major cities, Amsterdam, Den Haag, Rotterdam (Schiedam) and Utrecht. I think Marcus (Affinity) has connections with Rood Wit in Leiden.
The level must be good enough if they can beat England in T20 ;)
-
An overseas tour is a real possibility in the next year or two, Holland could well be the destination :)
-
We seem to be all set, just the small matter of accommodation to be arranged.
Anyone wanting to pop along for the day (or longer if you dare) is more than welcome :)
-
We are definitely all confirmed now.
4th August Hatherley & Reddings CC
5th August Tewkesbury CC
6th August Cheltenham Civil Service CC
Anyone wishing to join us for a day (or more) is more than welcome, please get in contact ASAP. Feel free to turn up at the respective grounds to watch some questionable cricket mixed with flashes of brilliance and plenty of hard liquor.
-
Shame you couldn't get a fixture against Cheltenham - I should have put a word in but only just saw your tweet to them.
I will try and come and watch you against my old club, Hatherly!
Made some progress with them via email then the trail went totally cold, no responses for over a week.
-
Geoff Trett and Barry Walker.
-
Hmm that's strange they're the most on the ball men in the club haha!
I suspect they decided they were unable to help with a fixture on the date I requested and both of them left it to the other man to tell me. :)

I worked at the summer school for a few years in Rottingdean and totally agree it is a lovely ground and a great part of the world. Far more likely to get good weather than up north!

Oh hadn't spotted you already decided on Cheltenham as hadn't read that far!

No problem mate. Didn't have much luck with either Blackpool or Brighton. We have organised loads of tours in the past and usually get plenty of responses, even if just a quick message to say "sorry we can't help" - but we drew a near total blank with clubs in Brighton/Blackpool. Over 35 clubs contacted, with a handful of slow replies that went along the lines of 'we will have a look and get back to you' - these were followed by radio silence.
Cheltenham has been a breeze in comparison.
-
If you would like an additional fixture on August 7, Painswick CC, a friendly club located about 10 miles from Cheltenham, would be happy to host you.
Please e-mail: postmaster@thecolonel.demon.co.uk if interested.
Thanks and the best of luck with the tour.
-
Not fancy Newcastle again? Or did you not enjoy it as much?
-
We always like to see new things ;)
Newcastle was a great tour, one of the best, highly recommended to anyone.
Thanks for the offer of a game on the 7th LegendsoftheAutostrada, we will be making a very hungover journey back to Peterborough that day I am afraid.

Well if you're let down by any of your prospective opponents (not suggesting you will be), please let us know and we'll see what we can do!

Absolutely mate, i'll stay in touch :)

Just one day to go before our tour.
Struggling a little for numbers tomorrow due to some late drop-outs and also some boys will be arriving later on Monday night or Tuesday morning. Anyone in the Cheltenham area interested in a game at Hatherley & Reddings 2pm start is more than welcome. Email jake@vitascricket.co.uk to discuss.
-
Boys, sorry to bring up an old topic but given how easy it was for vitas boys to organise a tour to cheltenham, I would be keen for getting my club down there, If anyone in cheltenham could give me a PM that would be belting!
-
We only found it easy thanks to a very helpful CBF member based in the area :)
-
i am proposing to my club to go to cheltenham next season. one player has a brother in the area and also contact through here should be enough to get a good weekend
