Hi guys I just thought I show you my new bat from online stockist it's a 2.8 sf sapphire and it was their bat off the week so I decided to go for it not knowing what the quality would be like I let the pictures do the talking

I paid 95 pounds for it as had a discount code I got a few other bits as well got the softs to match and a set off sg test gloves and pads and some ss keeping gloves and the shipping for the whole lot was 39 pounds so I thought that was very reasonable

A lot of wood packed into a 2lb 8oz bat!

How does it tap up?  Is it a bit dry or just a light cleft?

It's just a light cleft and had no problems with customs

Lovely lovely bat, Simon. Can't believe it is only 2.8, really a massive bat. I suspect it is a little drier than normal, as SF seem to get massive bats for their weight, but what do I know. :-[ All that matters is that it's a good bat!

Seems like the English made bats are catching up in size though, I wonder how... ;)

It is a lovely bat I made sure that it had two coats off bat wax so I hope it will be ok because it is insane off the mallet seems to be opening up witch is a good sign I am pleased I tried sf as was always a bit unsure about the quality but this has put me In My place very happy indeed  :D

Out of interest, is the SF a full sized SH or is it 'Academy' sized like most CA bats?

95 quid is a very decent price, may be because you had some discount code as you mentioned. Bat looks lovely, hope you score loads of runs with this one.

Having previously dealt with him, he usually emails pics if you ask and if he has them in stock.

That's the problem. I asked for some bats but he doesn't have them in stock. So he is asking for payment so that he can procure the bats. He may get good quality bats but it's still a gamble.
I guess it's the risk you take to get some stuff at cheap price.

I don't think I would take the risk with a more than a couple hundred pounds as it is a gamble the softs have been very good value

Title: My new sf sapphire pads and gloves
Post by: simonmay5 on March 25, 2014, 10:26:36 AM
As you already know I bought a sf sapphire bat and I got the matching gloves and pads for under 40 pounds which I think is great value for money was a bit worried about the gloves because some have had youth gloves and small men's I got big hands and had no problems my hands in to the gloves  :)

Simon. Have you used your bat yet. And how is the sweetspot and ping on it compare to your other bats. Also how big are the edges for this bat.

Sorry to drag up an old thread. Just made a substantial order, do you often get any customs duty on OS orders?

budget for 20% of the declared cost (i.e. how much you paid, less postage) and if you don't get charged, happy days!

I wanted to try an SS and SF. Then when I saw the price I thought if I buy a few and I am sure I can find a few people who will take them off me.

Yeah, I've only had 2 bats arrive at once so the declared value probably wasn't enough to warrant any excitement at customs, 6 bats may get them rubbing their hands together at the thought of extra funds for their Christmas party however!  :-[
