Title: A very special Uzi sports pro
Post by: simonmay5 on April 14, 2014, 02:45:00 PM
As you might already no I was waiting on a very special bat that was in a group off bats heading to misbah-ul-haq the bat itself is 2.9 and has a 43 mm edge and has 25 grains and a nice bit off heartwood the grains are superb and the way the bat responds is just crazy all the Uzi sports pro bats are superb

I can vouch for this bat. On size alone it's silly, but the balance is very good.

Loving those softs too - I really like the round fronted "cane" look

That is a serious looking bat. Please give it lots of TLC before you use it!!

great looking bat. Big edges for it's weight and would have been awesome if it didn't have the heartwood.

The pickup and balance is superb when I first saw the bat I thought it was going to a 3lb monster but its bang on 2.9 the softs are the best I have seen they are very soft and the protection is superb the bats are great value for money

It won't be hurried into action buzz it will be knocked in and played in before it even gets a sniff off a match it's to good off a bat to not prepare properly  :)

I love the look of the bat.

However, I will say it before the 'haters' do - "It has heartwood over 1/2 of the blade - Can't be Grade 1".

I think it looks great, but I wouldn't expect bats coming from you Si to look anything but! :D

Enjoy pal!

the bat looks good. might not last long but will definitely perform. and the softs look very classy.

To me the bat is just what I want from a bat it's big it picks up very well it looks stunning and the performance will be superb if I get a couple off seasons out off it I will be happy but this bat will be used only when the condition improve and their no chance off using it against a poor quality ball as I have seen the damage poor balls can do to bats
Title: Re: A very special Uzi sports pro

Nice Bat Simon but I have to agree it probably won't last long based on  the number of grains the willow tree that the bat has come from is quite old IMO.Therefore you are right to  be selective when it comes to using it.

It's is a real gun just ask Pete what the bat was like it might not be to every ones taste but if you want a bat that will preform then the Uzi sports bats are a serious performing bats

Not knocked in or played in yet!
Lovely noise off the mallet and the response is superb!!
The cricket ball bounces like a tennis ball too.
I've no doubt whatsoever that this bat will be simply amazing!
As others have said, it may not last as long as some bats, but it will certainly live fast!!

Bat is huge with 43 mm edges and weighing at 2.9 but heartwood is a turn off to me.
Title: Re: A very special Uzi sports pro
Post by: simonmay5 on April 14, 2014, 05:30:42 PM
I hear a fair few off the comments about the heartwood but to me it gives a bat an extra punch and maybe the bat won't last as long but it's made by one off the best bat makers around so I am sure it will be a superb bat I usually change my bat every season so to me if it last the season the bat has done its job  :)

Performance over looks EVERY TIME. Though, lets be honest, it's no Janet Street-Porter!!

It is a cricket bat, not your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/husband **Delete as appropriate - It's a 21st century world after all!**! :-[

I wouldn't be too concerned about heartwood if I was in your place.. bought this bat in 2010

http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=7329.30 (http://custombats.co.uk/cbforum/index.php?topic=7329.30)

Photos on page 3, with almost half heartwood direct from Jatin and it was really expensive and was sold to me as a pro bat.
Scored loads of runs for two years and then passed it over to a team mate who is still playing with it and the bat is still going strong with the exception of some surface cracks..

The balance and pick up are so spot on
But the ball rebound really does have to be seen to be believed
A true one off bat, regardless of looks

All Asads pro bats are exceptional, but this one is special

Avoid dodgy balls and it will score loadsa runs

I think this has become quite a popular shape for Laver and Wood now (Without the bowed blade).

Gorgeous looking sticks!

Very much so the one I saw broke my heart that had been used against a very cheap hard ball .but you are right that the bats are true one off its rebound puts a smile on my face every time I tap a ball on it  :D

The bat doesn't look great. Not a fan of the stickers or the 50-50 look.

The softs, well they are much of a muchness. Not sure what the difference is between them and some other white labeling company.

Nothing different.

If the bat works then great, but nothing to get excited over.

Is that because it isn't a H4L?

(for the record, I have nothing against H4L, in fact I love them, just don't understand your narrow mindedness in not seeing the beauty in that)

Maybe mate but the softs are superb and are in my opinion great value for money and the protection level is superb the bat it's self is superb it might not be any thing special to you but I taped it up and it is mind blowing I am luck I have tried many bats and this bat has been one off the best I have taped up so I do believe it will be a real gem

It's nothing personal. Just an opinion based on the pictures.

It's easy to get a set of softs which are great. The worst ones I've had where Newbery SPS, so even the better brands get it wrong.
These just look like anything else.

Is this the bat that you first clapped eyes on when we went to Asad's last year? If so that is a cracking bat everything about it is cracking. Well done for holding out that long for it mate. Also those softs look like they compliment the bat very well mate.

As for some comments mate don't worry about it, unless its a said brand or maybe one other you won't get great comments mate and some just love to say things to gain a response I think. As for the heartwood its all a preference I would not pick a bat with that much personally but having tapped that thing up I would have made an exception. It will require good care mate to get the most life out of it.

Simon and I kept brainwashing Asad until he eventually crumbled!  ;)

Seriously the bat is an absolute blinder and its not even knocked in yet!
I have tapped up fully knocked in bats that are not as responsive! So heaven knows how good this will be once its fully knocked and played in!
And I agree about the Salix bats! The ones in the shop were beautiful!
And that hits hard was surprisingly good!
Asad is a patient guy! Simon was a madman!! Tapping up anything that moved!
I can also vouch for a rather stunning Newbery mjolnir sps (pre 2014 profile) with stunning grains and responsiveness to match!

Sorry Simon, I don't like the look of that bat, I REALLY like the look of it. That's something coming from me, since I'm not normally a fan of a bat with that many grains, and that much heartwood, but it just looks stunning, the size for the weight and the profile. You've really gotten yourself a cracker there, I'm a little envious! :)

How can you make a opinion based on photos. If I post a bat with 12 straight grains, would your opinion change?

The majority of people here form an opinion based on photos and personal experience of, let's be honest, generic white labelled products.

It's nothing negative, just a thought that the soft goods look unremarkable.
I am sure in the flesh they feel good, but off the page, and that is where most sales are made, they look just 'Ok'.

Surely you can accept a neutral review?

A 12 grain bat. Would that look better? Probably, but looks are irrelevant to myself. My thoughts on the bat are that it looks 'Ok'. I'm sure it works well, again just a neutral comment.

It seems that unless you blow hot air up people's (whatever) you get a troll or two.

Nothing negative Asad, I'm sure if I where to visit the shop I'd find something good to come home home with.

A lot of heartwood in it but it doesn't take away the quality of the bat. I don't mind heartwood and certainly not on this one, real Graingasm, there are certain bats which even with the pics feel would perform great and this certainly amongst them. Amazing amount of wood for 2.9 and a good profile too. This is why we say Pros get better bats than what we usually get. Good one Simon & Asad.

Glad you've managed to get your hands on it at last. I was quite surprised to see the heartwood on it but as long as you like it, it plays/taps up well then fair play. How's the handle? The ones in asads shop were all of a decent size. Can we also have a pic of the toe up to see the concaving.

If this bat was sold by James at Lekka and was claimed to be made for a pro i wonder what this thread would be like.

All people ,who havent seen the bat, can go by is the picture.

I dont see a problem with Fasteddie's response people take things too personal. His writing style may be straight to the point but let the man speak his mind and if he goes against what the majority are saying its not wrong or him showing negativity etc etc.

Stop taking things personally, he is commenting on a plank of wood with stickers on and some leather with nice decorations on.

That's better Simon - let us enjoy your wood as it should be seen.

Enough of this bickering - anymore dissent on this thread and i shall have to lock it!
