Title: TON Legacy - Exclusive to Vitas Cricket (& some others...)
Post by: Vitas Cricket on May 08, 2014, 05:48:56 PM
Pleased to announce that along with Lords, Pro Direct Cricket, Talent Cricket, and Somerset County Sports we will be exclusive stockists of the new TON Legacy bat.

The bat is available in very limited numbers in the UK for 2014, it will progress to become the flagship range with different grades and price points for 2015.

It will be used by Sangakarra, Ravi Bop and any other TON sponsored players (Indian players unconfirmed yet) playing in the England v Sri Lanka & England v India series this Summer. A certain Freddie Flintoff will also be using the Legacy when he returns to club cricket and if rumours are true, the professional game this Summer.

These very exclusive bats arrived into the UK today and we are going tomorrow to handpick our allocation. Anyone who wants one should contact me ASAP as these are in very short supply (less than 100) - I believe we will be the first retailer to pick our stock but i do not know for sure, so don't want to make any false claims.

All retailers will be selling them at £200. We offer free delivery and i will knock the bat in for free as an offer to forum members.

Here is a little preview, proper pictures of our stock will be posted tomorrow.

Edit, here is a picture of the bat to show the shape, you can see a few examples in the background showing the quality of grains etc. All bats weigh 2'8 - 2'10.

What makes these different to the other bats in the range? Different shape or purely different stickers?

We might be stocking this too.  I am visiting TON tomorrow and should know more then...

Great idea TON but with only a 100 bats too many retailers will spoil it

Newer stickers, basically less 'bumpf' on the back of the bat. This is what the 2015 stickers are probably going to look like as the brand tries to move away from plastering the entire bat with stickers, this will be a gradual process over a period of time but this is the first step. Also the exclusivity of only being available in limited numbers and from certain retailers. The bat will be endorsed by TON sponsored players this Summer.

Hmmmm I like the idea of exclusivity but surely it's not really exclusive if 5 possibly 6 retailers are stocking it?

It is certainly more exclusive than it being available to every retailer, do you not agree?

Are these made from players willow?

Not sure. What does players willow mean anyway? It isn't a term i have ever seen used by Sareen.

We might be stocking this too.  I am visiting TON tomorrow and should know more then...

I won't be there Paul, but you might bump into Robin. :)

It's less than 100, not sure on the exact figuire but i believe it is 70-80, and to my knowledge all the bats have already been allocated to the 5 retailers mentioned.

Will at least be interesting to have a look at these Legacy bats in the flesh, even if they can't allocate any more to us to stock.  To be honest, it would be nice to see a bit more innovation from TON, but at least it's a step in the right direction and wholesale changes can take time...

Are they made from a lighter density cleft with it being a limited edition run?

Like the way you displayed them. Didn't think much about SS TON, however I just returned two of them and am pretty impressed with the materials. Wish I lived in the UK just so I could have access to the variety of bats to hold and compare.

This isn't our display. It is a picture sent out by TON to the retailers who are stocking the bat. Robin is there picking up our bats right now.

As for low density, i don't know yet. All will be revealed this afternoon. :)

I thought that would be an awesome way to display bats.

Then realised i'd panic as I walked into store, picked one up to wield and swing and watched the other 3 crash down and bounce off each other putting knocks into the back of the bat.

So in terms of shape I guess they would be the same as the I-Bat they do  ???

To be clear, the retailers involved in the Legacy have been invited to stock the product.

We were the first retailer to pick the Legacy stock. I have bats from 2'8 to 2'10. The bats come pre fitted with a toe guard and also the new ripple style grip, which does add a little extra weight. All bats come with a free Sareen bat cover.

The bats are in a concaved shape, all of them have excellent pickup and balance, the performance is very pleasing based on mallet and ball tests. The bats have clean straight grains for the most part, with only the odd minor blemish on some bats.

I will take some more pictures when i can. Off soon for a weekend of cricket and beer, or rain and beer....

Are these a kind of advance preview that only a few selected retailers are getting? They look to be very nice bats. I'm sure that other retailers are kicking themselves that they didn't get on the list!

The cleaner looking back is so much better, I'm tempted to remove some of the stickers off mine now! (Either that, or I could buy a new one entirely...) :-[

Indeed, the Legacy will progress into the flagship range for 2015. For now it's a limited run of 75 bats stocked only by the retailers listed in my first post.

Chad, always more room in the collection, no? ;)

Will take some profile shots etc soon, i did post a vine to our twitter account which shows the whole bat off.

Haha I'm afraid there's always room in the collection. :-[ I had a look at the Vine, and although I like the look of the bat, it just doesn't seem massively different at all in terms of profile compared to the other TON bats! At least they're pushing the stickers in the right direction though. :)

Selling well so far, TON Legacy bats have been on the shelves for less than 12 hours (in terms of how long we have actually been open) and we've sold 3 already.

Will be loading onto the website soon.

I understand the slight disappointment with the lack of concaving. We were given an indication from TON that the bats would be in the non concaved shape, things often change in cricket so i wanted to wait until seeing them for sure before confirming things absolutely. That being said, i don't think concaving is something to get hung up on. Some of my favourite bats ever, including the best bat i ever owned have been concaved. I don't get the argument that concaving has an impact on performance. Performance comes from the pressing, as well as the quality of the piece of wood to begin with. Tinkering with the shape on the back of the bat affects balance and pickup much more than performance. If removing wood from the back of the bat had such an impact, the GN Scoop would be the worst bat ever made.

I've added some profile shots to the first post.

Don't forget that for a couple more days, GripGrip is free with all bats ordered from us, including the Legacy.
