This is years IPL has been great for several uncapped indian players.
Who according to you has a bright future in international circuit ?
I would place my bet on
1. Manan Vohra
2.akshar patel
Manan vohra steals the show according to me....promising new talent for india

I have a couple of players who i think can fit into the Indian set up nicely.\
1. Sanju Samson, Good aggressive batsman but also one who can build an innings
2.Sandeep Sharma, Good movement with the new ball and also some good pace about him
Their my two
-
Sandeep sharma looks promising too...but as far as the indian team's track record goes....
If he plays for india...he will probably lose his pace without which his swing will be of no use
Eg
: irfan pathan
Praveen kumar :p

Karun Nair.
There is a bit of Sachin in him, the way he plays.
-
Hmm...karun nair...yes
This years ipl has showcased some nice indian talent....
With no big positives for capped indian players...

Most of the leggies have done pretty well. The one from rcb looks pretty decent

This year has been much better than any previous year: Chahal, Sandeep, Karun, Samson and Manan Vohra all look like they could one day play for India.
I wonder why England doesn't send more of their players to play in the IPL? It's a good middle ground between first class and international, with the experience of huge crowds and publicity as well as some star players and coaches to learn from. Both South Africa and Australia send some of their first class players and they seem to have prospered from it.

Sandeep Sharma just doesn't have the ferocity which India have been longing for in their pacers. I would invest time and effort in Ishwar Pandey, he has got potential to make it big. I thought the same about Varun Aaron once and has been let down by his lack of control.
Irfan Pathan is sadly past his prime now.
Robin Uthapa has made a surprise comeback and he has changed his game completely. As good as Sanju Samson is, I think he needs a little bit more maturity, so does Manan Vohra. Both great talents and could have been great additions for Bangladesh Tour.
I am not too sure if Mohit Sharma, Bhumra, Akshar Patel are quite ready yet for International stage.

There are a number of points here...
1. the standard isn't a middle ground it is pretty low.
2. it is during the English county season (which it shouldn't be, the county season shouldn't start at the beginning of April...)
3. none of the English players actually get bought at the auction!!
so playing with different people from different nationalities in front of full houses is important - but astonishingly enough, you do get that in England too...
The young Indian talent to show itself in this years version is still impressive, however.
-
1. Not enough quality match winners apart from hales in the England side. Morgan's not done much in the ipl.
2. Poor showing in the WC doesn't help.
3. As soon as the ball starts turning most look out of their depth.
4. Most of the coaches are SA or Australian so not likely that they'll want the English players.

I think the reason most of them don't get picked is due to the restrictive part of their counties. I know Notts said something along the lines to Hales for this season of you can only go if you get a bid of this much or something similar. There's no way you can really compress the county season anymore though unfortunately, and I think it would benefit our T20 players playing out there with the huge crowds and the big names.

Wait... where :D?

I think the last point is normally the major reason given by English players. To me it's stupid that Hales, the number 1 ranked batsman until recently and holder of a WC T20 Ton against the eventual winners, doesn't get a look in. Morgan was doing pretty well in the IPL in the last season or so and Butler is a better option than most wk/batters in world cricket. I think those 2 decided to stay in England and fight for test places.
-
Reckon hales will get picked next year.
The problem with this years auction was the likes of rcb, Csk, DD, Mumbai and kkr had used up all the budget with player retentions and buying over rated players, whilst the remaining 3 teams are too cheap to use up all the auction purse.
With remaining the Sri Lankan players in next year's auction, think a couple of England boys might get picked.
-
Akshar patel should give Jadeja run for his money in test side
-
Bumrah for having a name which people across the world will be giggling about!
Sounds like a game people from Ox-Bridge play!

I ll have to disagree with you on this....ipl has set standards...and i think any tournament of this stature with players from all nationalities playing can never be of low standard....it has been a launchpad for many players like shaun marsh, steve smith, sunil narine..etc by giving them international recognition....

Doesn't make it a high quality tournament. There is plenty of dross in amongst the big names. That and some of the smallest boundaries in "world" cricket simply creates standards that mean a lot of sixes are hit...

To be fair some of the county grounds would also be up there for the smallest boundaries in the world too

Each tournament has it's set of bad players. I personally would rate IPL thrid after BBL and the South African T20 league...but IPL does generally brings together some of the best T20 players in the world and good upcoming local Indian talent. This year, there have been a few who have stood out.
I would rate Manan Vohra the best of the lot this yr. he's a good talent.
-
No chance. Half of these Indian players have never played any First Class cricket. The standard is dross lol. How many games have been won by home grown batting talent in this years IPL? Bowling has been OK, but otherwise its all about the indian test players, and overseas pros!

Shuan Marsh? - urm - talented, but ultimately failed test player
Steve Smith - come to prominence through Aussie First Class cricket and Test cricket
Narine - chucker who isn't good enough for test cricket - and when he did play got spanked.
no the standard is poor - Mike Hussey has retired from cricket and has hardly played in the last year - but turns up and is a leading performer, that says all you need to know and as Nick says none of the journeyman players turn games - unlike in other competitions around the world.
the standards the IPL has set is around marketing, making money, blowing their own trumpet, desperate commentary - and being hugely fun to watch (which is absolutely the point of professional sport - and why I watch the ILP, when I can)
The reality is that even after 7 editions, I still don't have a favourite team - and really don't care who plays - I just enjoy the spectacle.
Regardless - I think Sanju Sampson is going to be a tremendous player

i agree that half of the indian players have never played 1st class cricket.....agree that ipl has been ruled mostly by overseas players like dwayne smith, maxwell miller....
but the whole point is standard.....
and i think more then half of the forum members watch ipl...if the standard was this low why would they even watch or discuss it.....dont act like ECB :-p(no offence, take it as a joke budd)
I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE 1 THING VERY CLEAR
i am not demeaning any other tournament, and this thread was never about the standard of the tournament. just the quality of young players its producing.
-
and if BCCI knows how to make money out of a tournament....then there is nothing wrong in it.....if they made it look fancy so that whole world watches it, then this is one thing which every board should follow.......
-
Woah lol, the fact that the only decent players are the overseas pros, most of which are washed up and/or international failures demeans the quality of the tournament. The forum watches it I'm sure because its free cricket, wouldn't watch it if there was anything better on. I don't think there have been any players out of the ipl who have been a exceptional internationals. I reckon I'd look class and score a bucket load of runs in an under 9s tournament, stick me in an international team and I'd look a bit poo!
-
On the whole quality of cricket thing, of course IPL can never even be compared to test cricket. Apart from being a dice game for the rich, it does offer young talents a chance at creating their name without spending years and years trying to prove themselves in first class cricket. At the same time it is extremely unfair to first class cricketers as someone with a lot less experience can get picked up over them.
In reality, most of the "IPL Talent", especially the Indian ones will never get to wear the test cap. It doesn't matter though, leave T20, IPL where it is, it must not be compared to ODIs or Test.
It has helped innovate cricket [especially batting] and the shots experimented in IPL are now seen in world wide cricket.
Great fun to watch and free on ITV so happy days.
I find IPL more entertaining than FT20, BBL, BPL etc.

Firstly, IPL was never meant to compete with International cricket. Thats why there is a restriction of only 4 foreign cricketers in the playing 11. The whole idea was to groom Indian talent, entertain and make money. And I guess IPL has achieved most of it. Where else a 19 yr old Sanju Samson will get to face Mitchell Johnson bowling at 150 KPH , or Akshar Patel get a chance to bowl to AB. These 19-20 year olds are just going to get better. Where else they would get a chance to bat alongside AB when he is whacking Steyn.
And not just Indian youngsters, even foreign born like Miller, Lendl would have gained so much.
Just the exposure to be around Indian and international pros and coaches is going to make so much difference to these young cricketers.
And its already showing, the way Manan and some of these guys have developed in last couple of seasons.
David Warner who has turned into a leading run scorer in Test cricket thanks to Viru. and this was Waner's own admission.
As far as the standards are concerned, there have been some terrific catching, fielding, batting and bowling. The standards of IPL have matched international cricket and better in some cases.
As far as grounds are concerned, there are smaller grounds in UK, New Zealand and SA. The ground size is not the reason for so many sixes, its the competition. Most of the sixes hit are over 75-80 meters which is good enough for most of the international grounds.
As far as English crickets are concerned, its due to ECB's restrictions. And its understood because if the stars go play for IPL means less eye watching English cricket means less advertisement means less money for ECB. Its unfortunate that both run at same time else guys like Stokes, Bopara, Anderson will get picked on day one of auction.
There are Indian and New Zealand coaches also :)
Going back to original question - I guess Akshar Patel is my pick. 62 overs, 17 wickets, economy of 6.2, very good for a 20 yr old. Just for comparison, SP Narine's stats - 60 overs, 20 wickets, economy of 6.01.
He can be a big threat to Jadeja if he can bat little better. He is tall and turn the ball, can be a great asset in test cricket. long way to go though.
T20 is batsman's game, so not going to pick a batsman :D

very well said.....
IMO, IPL should never be compared to any form of international cricket....it should only be compared to BBL, English T20 and SA t20.....never seen english version so really cant comment otherwise i think its better then SA T20 but at par with BBL....
akshar patel is indeed looking great, the way he bowled last night was amazing......and was one of the few matches in which it was only indian players showing their worth in a tight match.
