Hi guys
A very good friend of mine who is a frequent poster here visited Meerut and picked this bat for me (though I was NOT looking for a bat for me ):D , this bat was made for Pollard ,I knew that this is going be a special bat ,and it really exceeded my expectations when it arrived , The things which were different about this bat was first the handle ,it’s like the same feeling I had when had a chance to see a screaming cat professional series ,it has a nice thick oval handle .have seen some top reserve edition bats from SS but not with a handle like this ,secondly the length of the bat is almost 1 inch longer than other bats I have, have put up some pics for comparison with my custom made ca plus 15000 le (half inch long blade )and my old legend .lastly is the balance of the bat is just amazing .. Initially I was a bit hesitant thinking whether I could manage the weight as I had been told that it’s a heavy bat? but the pickup is like 2.11 , knocking in done and had just one throw down session with it ..just over the moon with this.. , I am sure that this bat will be my match bat once ready … here are the pictures
Specs : weight 2.13.5 with one grip (though it had three grips at time of purchase and weighed around 3lb)
Edges :45 mm
Handle : lovely very thick oval handle
Grains : 13 almost straight grains front and back with slight blemish
One inch long blade (almost)
Pick up, balance : really good
Concaving: Moderate, not heavy like SS normal bats
Ping: Amazing, best i have ever seen
All queries welcome.
Enjoy the pics.

If you are going to write the players name on the bottom of a bat at least make sure you spell it correctly.

i doubt he wrote it....it is usually the bat makers who write the name of the player for which the bat is meant to be........i had CHANDELA written on my SS MAX POWER, which i was told was meant for AJIT CHANDILA (one of the tainted TRIO).
-
top bat budd, mind sharing the price ?

having seen this bat personally i will say that i haven't seen bigger bat than this, 1 inch longer blade and overall length of the bat is also 1 inch more than normal bats, 45mm edges without heavy concaving, this is a real beast and could only be made for giant pollard. The bat is well balanced and picks up well, pings amazing well. You lucky mate to have something special like this.
-
top bat budd, mind sharing the price ?
when you don't share price of your Gladiator, how you expect others to share. :)

For those questioning the claim that it's a genuine players bat, I agree it can seem questionable and somewhat easy to fake.
Have a look at this though - www.facebook.com/Kingsgrovesportscentre/photos/pb.168231813250789.-2207520000.1402475809./418731838200784/?type=3&theater (http://www.facebook.com/Kingsgrovesportscentre/photos/pb.168231813250789.-2207520000.1402475809./418731838200784/?type=3&theater). These were meant to be bats SS sent to Kingsgrove to prepare for Sangakkara in their last Australian tour. The name was also misspelt.
Moral of the story?
Make sure the name is spelt wrong! :D
-
I tell you what, lets find out from the SS guys and find out if they always write the name of the players at the Toe with name misspelt ;)
-
I think names are written by someone in the factory who is more into production side (i.e. making the bats or supervising them), they would just hear the names of players for whom the bats are made and write the name on the best effort basis (whatever sounds right to them), their educational qualifications as expected would not be great.
-
Additionally it may be a secret code to differentiate actual "Player's" bat, the ones where names are spelled correctly might be fakes ;)
-
I am troubled by the difference in profile. The SS looks more concaved than I would expect and I had heard Pollard uses a relatively light bat before grips are applied, more in the 2'9-10 range. I might be wrong though but these bats look too different to me, unless he isn't fussy on profiles.

When I spoke with a guy at CA, he said the actual "pro ones" are without toe guard.
God knows!
-
i have been told by the owner of SS, that they never write players names on the toe
-
Very interesting info/thoughts on here but nevertheless both bats look amazingly good.
-
I got a custom made SS bat direct from SS factory. Told them to make a virat kohli spec bat. And their best quality willow and best bat. I have done review on the Sareen Sports page on this forum.
And my bat also is 1 inch longer then all other bats. Your bat is thicker as it's weight is much more. I wanted a light weight bat and they made me a 2.9 but the balance and pick up is really great that it feels exactly like one of my 2.7 weight bat. Also it's got just minimum concaving just like yours.

True, when i received Dilshan bat, it was without toe guard and scuff sheet.

Thanks Shax, your kohli shape bat looks amazing.
-
Got to say looks a usual cracker from sareen indeed.
Great shape looks imposing indeed and great profile.
Agree both this and the kholi shape ones are stunning
-
Thanks Shax, your kohli shape bat looks amazing.
No problem mate. Your bat looks a stunner. Got yourself a great bat.
Top quality SS bats are just great. I have seen some grade 2 SS bats in 2.9 weights but their balance and pick up are not that great. But the top quality SS bats are exceptional in every department.

Guys relax, take it easy. Don't waste your precious time and money by calling SS owner checking whether they write players name on the toe or not and other members as well please don't dig too deep to find out whether this is Pollard Bat or not. If you guys are so serious and want to prove that this is not POLLARD bat then i amend my post and withdraw word POLLARD from the post and rename it SS Bat.
Just for your info, this was sourced from some reliable source and i trust that guy so i trusted him and he has not charged me millions for this one, 250 GBP delivered to Dubai and the guy took all the pain to knocked it for me, what else you need. Compared to my GN Legend for which i spent 450 GBP(delivered Dubai) this SS bat is far ahead than legend in all departments. I had brief net session with this bat today and it performed unbelievably well, ball just flies off this one.
I don't care whether it is POLLARD Bat or not, i am happy and satisfied with it and it is the best bat i have owned to date.
-
Looks a stunner
Sounds like it goes well too
Go and destroy some bowling!

The bat looks rude, something Capt Caveman would wield.
Enjoy the bat and ignore the brick bats.

For ur info SS owner is a very close friend and I do talk to him regularly so I have not wasted my time and money. My post was not aimed at you to prove that it is Pollard bat or not. I was just curious that I have never seen a bat from SS where they have written names on the toe when I had quite a few custom made bats made in various players shapes.
I am just letting people on the forum know what the SS owner has stated in his email.
Main thing is u r happy with the bat and that's what matters...
-
All I know is that I hope the bat had POLARD written on the bottom before the stickers were added... Or there simply is no excuse! lol ;)
-
I'm sure their was another guy on this forum who got a SS bat and it had Kulusakera written at the bottom. Also I seen a bat which had Kohli at the bottom also. My bat which is the kohli player bat is with a toe guard as I asked SS to fit a toe guard so can't comment on it. But I'm sure they write names on some bats so they know which player profile bats they are.
And I can easily say this SS bat which I have is the best bat I had I have also compared it to some other brand top range bats but nothing comes close to this. Player bat or not who cares it's SS top and best quality bat which is better and in terms of price better also.
-
I don't understand why SS can't laser engrave their 'TON' mark , all this marker pen business looks really cheap imo.

Didn't Dave (procricket) have the Kulasekara bat? Also Buzz put up some pics of the Dinesh Karthik bat which had karthik written on it

i have been told by the owner of SS, that they never write players names on the toe
Sorry but you're mistaken.
Whenever they make a bat for a particular player, they always write the name on the bottom and invariably its spelt incorrectly!! We have had numerous bats pass through our hands for the likes of Dhoni, Tendulkar, Pathan, Afridi, Rohit Sharma, Ganguly, Sehwag, Yuvraj and they always have the names on the bottom.
A recent example is shown below, which was supplied to R. Jadeja for the Champions Trophy that was held here last year and you'll see the name was written on the bottom, along with the customary spelling mistake ...

Asad Bhai With due respect, i know that you are expert of this field and really have good connections with all leading bat manufacturers and you are sourcing some pro bats like Misbah and many more international players, could you please do a favor and ask SS owner how can we identify whether a particular bat is a players bat or a normal bat so that we can use this info in buying any other pro bat in future.

All I know is that I hope the bat had POLARD written on the bottom before the stickers were added... Or there simply is no excuse! lol ;)
it was plain when they first sent pics but pollard name was mentioned on the toe and it had 3 grips, later when the deal was confirmed my friend requested them to put stickers.

Thanks Vinay, this is great info provided by you. I was not sure whether it is POLLARD bat or not but it is amazing bat and after seeing your post and clarification i am now hundred percent sure that this is original POLLARD BAT. It is good to know that so many international players bats has passed through your hands, next time i will request you to arrange me any of these players bats. :)
-
Pollard or not that's a monster bat, well worth the money I would say. Why should it be so difficult to source a Player's bat, not so difficult in my opinion. While buying a team bat few years back in Hyderabad, India we bought 2 bats from a guy who was in close circles (that's what he said) with IPL & Ranji players, 1 of the bats I bought was for a Hyderabad IPL team's player, a TON bat with Puma stickers lovely bat with really good finishing, another one was a PROTOS bat supposedly for VVS Laxman. Though I didn't like the VVS bat (not my type) but that was really a Very Very Special bat, light as a walking sticking felt like around 2.4/2.5 Lbs and pinged like a spring, few of my team mates who preferred a light weight bat for slogging hit humongous Sixes with it.

Its an excellent looking bat mujju, certainly big and a very good price.
As for names on the toe, before we started seeing them on the forum I had seen a bat from SS (Cover_drive's) with Virat on it and unfinished toe. Then I got a couple more from India shortly after IPL 2013 was over, these bats all had names on the toe and toe was rough/unfinished. These bats were made for players to use in the IPL, but once the tournament was over and surplus stock was acquired but some retailers and sold.
Since then I am assuming that SS have started making these bats more available for retailers and customers as there are a lot of them popping up now but regardless your's is a very good looking bat so it does not matter if it was meant for Pollard or if it is a copy of the shape he uses or if someone just wrote on it with a pen for the sake of selling it. As most brands know they make multilple bats for their players but players don't always pick up all the bats that are put aside for them...
Enjoy using it, how tall are you? since it is a longer bat I would really like to know how you feel using it, I am 6'3 and use SH bats simply because LB/LH bats seems to be feel like a toothpick for the weight I use...

Thanks Tushar ..i am six feet ,i personally like long blades with short handles ,they give me more balance and confidence in my stance ,i think you should give a try :0, i am not a bat expert (i may be totally wrong ) :0, but feel the long blades have a nice balance and pick up.. coming back to the bat ,i honestly think that i was really lucky to get a bat like this :) hope i made some sense

So, SS write names on the bottom of bats = pro bat. Fine.
Small time waster buys lower grade bats, sandpaper and magic marker. Doesn't even have to be literate to start ripping people off.
p.s. This is not casting aspersions on the Pollard, just a general observation.
-
If any time wasters can find me a 16 grain 45mm edge minimal concaved bat for a good price at 2.9 then write whatever you like on the toe, cash waiting.
-
Ask kippax, if all you care about are edges, dead weight and minimal concaving.

but what if its some over dried plank that splits straight away and you never hear from the seller again?
-
Bought planks before from so called hand picked retailers and also dogs off ebay, I now do the same as the retailer and buy purely on looks and hope it performs. Might have to look at Kippax, also would go for a stick from OnlineStockist, after something huge.

From what I can see that says Sanga. There is definitely 5 letters on it.

This is just to confirm that yes they put down names on the toe....
Spelled correctly or incorrectlyp

How come Sanga's head and face look so large in comparison to his legs and hip? Is it photo shopped?

Looks like a bobble head... Miniature hands too :D

My friend played in the help for heroes game the other night was gifted both a dhoni bat which had his name at the bottom and a bat from Brendon mc

We received a Kieron Pollard CA bat which we reviewed it was pretty much identical to the SS in this post. So I would like to say this is more than likely a genuine pro bat and a very nice one at that.

Having seen this SS bat in flesh and being used by my good friend mujju (cbf member), the ping is unreal.

Main thing is u r happy with the bat and that's what matters...
you did the right thing. otherwise other cricketers will not know the good from the bad from the ugly. its always good to know what manufacturers do and never do. it clears the air. however all the pics are confusing still.
-
This is exactly what i am trying to find out so it helps you me and everyone else. I will definitely check with him
i dont believe their is a significant amount of difference between an actual players bat and a top of the line bat / custom made bat you get from a top manufacturer, to justify all the fuss people can some times and are making. if we pay the same amount of attention to our temperament we will do much better to score runs. all this is a sign of the mentality many so called cricketers have got them selves into. i will be pleased or not pleased to know how they actually perform on the field. i guarantee you they will not be in the same zone as a peak performing athlete, who cares mostly and more about his behaviour and mindset then his kit (for where there is a negligible / insignificant difference). it just diverts the mental energy, which is counter productive.
