Anybody here use(d) them? If so how good is the protection and are they value for money? Been looking to get a pair for a while but haven't been able to stump up the £30-40 that the online shops want.
-
When I first used them they were fine. Not too bulky and do the job well enough. They leave some fleshy parts exposed but all off the shelf models are likely to do that!
Now the annoying sales bit from a fox fan, they might cost twice as much, but you cannot beat stretton fox thigh pads. They will be customised so you don't get the dead legs from fleshy parts and are lighter than the strippers. They're less bulky and fully mould to your leg. If you can find the extra cash it's well worth contacting George and getting some foxy protection.

Thanks Cameron I will look into it :D

P2 are ok, i have never used them i was always up at P1 with the level i play but agree with cameron, strettons are the biz, mine hopefully arrive today
-
As a p2 user, I'd say this. Look at the level of cricket you are playing. Is it premier league or equivalent? Yes? Look at strettons or p1. No? You'll be fine with p2s and you won't be paying through the nose.

P2 are fine just make sure you get the measurement right. Quite a few brands are doing similar combo at lower prices, it will be worth looking in to. Aeros hold their value better than other guards in their range so if you don't like them you will be able to recoup some of the money.
-
I swear by my P2's. They are comfortable and offer more than adequate protection for the standard I play. I have only been hit in a fleshy part once and that was by a bowling machine when I got myself into a tangle. Has never happened in a game. I am so comfortable with them I happily leave awkward ones on my thigh and let them hit me rather than risk getting the bat involved.
-
Personally I have gone back to using P2's over stretto as for the me the comfort from my P2's was better. The protection from the strettons is without doubt better but even in championship cricket the aero's offer ample protection against the pace I face which is around mid 70's I would guess.
-
If £30 - £40 for a pair of Aeros is a bit steep to see if you like them, try and pick up a cheaper alternative off of here, so you can see what you think of this style of protection.
I can't remember who it was, but some decent bloke is selling an equivalent pair at a giveaway price in the for sale section.
He must be a great guy as no-one has taken them off him for this highway robbery price yet!
:D

Swear by my P2's. Extremely comfortable, good protection etc. One of my favourite bits of kit.

Soulman - nice to see someone else who has gone back to P1 / P2s having tried Stretton Fox. I loved the quality of the Foxes but just couldn't get a comfortable fit whereas I don't notice my P1s when I'm wearing them and they are quite a bit bulkier than P2s. I don't really need the protection of P1s these days but I'm going to wear them until they wear out.
-
I've got both P1's (here in Aus) and P2's (back in England) and love them. Never had the pleasure of trying Stretton Fox yet but but you can't really go wrong with the P2's mate...
-
Looks like I'm going to get the P2's guys, I will use these and then when I'm regularly in the seconds/firsts in a few years I will look to invest in the Stretton Foxes.
-
Strettons are a big investment but they will last for years!!
I have strettons which I'm "bedding" in and netting with them. I'm using P2s for matches this season.
Then I'll start using the strettons next season - it helps that the Strettons are washable ;)

I do question the ratings of aero products if I am honest. Wearing my p2s, had the bowling machine on 70 the other week and got hit square on the thigh and it hurt like hell. Big bruise too...

P1's are a different level, had mine for the last couple of seasons and can't recall one bruise.

Then the next level again is Strettons! Well worth the extra money IMO ;)
-
The difference between aero and strettons is that whilst you may not be able to recall a bruise appearing with aero, i can honestly say i can't recall the last time i even felt a ball hit me with strettons.
Whenever someone with a bit of zip bowls anything vaguely at me/leg side (i'm not a great puller of the ball) i just sort of waft the bat so as to convince the umpires i am playing a shot and then i try and get my (No Swearing Please) in the way so i can deflect the ball off my strettons for 4.
Aero are a fantastic mass market product and great value for money (i've had mine nearly 8 years and still going strong) but the strettons are the genuine rolls royces. They will last a lifetime, the shape/design can be customised if you want to be totally at ease when it comes to covering up your pasty thighs and George's service/aftercare is impeccable.
-
At first I loved the idea of them and the feel but just couldn't get them to mould to my thighs...which resulted in me debating about ditching them and going back to my aeros. However George very kindly did a fitting session with me on FaceTime and helped me shape the pads to my thigh. Before I shaped properly I was using the bespoke thigh straps but I thought they were a little bulky as the pads wouldn't stay in place with the normal thin straps. However I know where the pads with the thin white straps and they stay in place perfectly! The pads are great and I genuinely don't know I am wearing them...and I'm not saying that just because I own a set and may have been daft/lucky (which ever way you look at it) enough to pay £95 for a set. The pads will last for ages, and I know if they break anytime soon George will be at hand to repair them, as that is the confidence his customer service gives you. Top thigh pads and a true contender against Remfry - just look at the amount of pros using strettons, who used to use Remfry...and basically most of the county players use them.

6 years and my P1's are still going strong. Can't go wrong with them, offer top protection and comfort in my opinion grey value for money

Second this.
-
Yeah my P2's are great. Can't bat without them now.
-
Love my P1s, fit really well, forget I'm wearing them once batting and, after 7 years, still going strong.
-
I have had P1's for 3 seasons. Quality and comfy
-
Yer they're pretty good :) I've taken some knocks on the thigh pads and haven't really felt a thing...
-
Got hit by Neil Saker on the P2's the other day, prob bowling mid-70s. Didn't feel a thing.
-
I may have the wrong size but I find my P2's tuck too far down behind the tophat of my pads. I find this quite irritating.
I only really wear them in nets when I tend to take more risks against the quicks but out in the middle I wear the Kook shorts with the slide in pads and no inner thigh protection.
I'd like to try the Fox's - perhaps next time a used set comes up.
-
I just bought them last week, will do a review on it this week...
-
My P2s have lasted me four years now, and still have loads of life left in them! Cost per wear and all that! :) Otherwise they are just extremely comfortable, and as others have said, you barely notice you are wearing them. I've been hit on them a few times and never felt anything - rarely do I face any bowlers over 70mph though!

That'd be great.

P2's are fine for Sunday cricket and good value. If I was being picky then a bit bulky if you're tall and slim, say 30-31 inch waist, and then there is only just enough velcro when you pull the waist tight. Still I'm in no rush to change, and my main concern when stood at the crease remains comfort and confidence so all my concentration is spent watching the ball.
-
Have used Aero P2's for six seasons, and there hasn't been any concerns at all. Great comfort and protection, not too bulky and no issue on 'weight' etc. For £35 or whatever they're going for, it has been a great investment in my eyes and am not looking to replace them any time soon. Highly recommended.

How is this thread still going?? Haha ???

People have/spend far too much time on the forum ;)

Got a pair of p1 strippers, really excellent although getting pinned on the inner thigh at 75+ can still hurt.
