Title: Blank Bats Butterfly Beast
Post by: tushar sehgal on August 25, 2014, 12:28:55 PM
There have been a lot of Butterfly willow bats on display and, even though I am not fully convinced, when BB or more specifically Buzz, i think, posted the hulk bat my jaw dropped and there was drool all over the floor  :-[ . I was fortunate to be online and PM'd BB regarding Hulk shape in butterfly willow that they had mentioned was coming soon, I was sent pictures back but to be honest I didn't know what to look for in butterfly willow so I let them pick a bat for me, as usually with BB and RPC I trust their judgement more than mine and have never been steered wrong :).

So here is the beast, I was told it is around 2'9-2'10 and I took the grip off to add the heavier GM ripple grip. Handle is a bit thin due to which the pick is a little bottom heavy, adding the GM grip helped. Then I started knocking it and bouncing the ball on it, what I thought would be used as a net bat has blown me away so far with how well it responds. It hasn't had match time yet but over next 2 weeks this will be getting used and terrorizing the bowlers, if I can connect that is  :-[.

This bat came up when I was looking for get my mate a bat and he went with RPC, I ended up with BBB and RPC  :o. I really need to stop buying/helping mates  ;).

Again the pics are off my phone, coin on the edge is biggest Canadian coin to give you some idea of the size. Pressing on this is soft(ish), mallet indents the face easily but doesn't create a huge crater. Tai and Mike were both excellent to deal with as always, so if anyone wants a huge bat that pings call them up and you will be very happy. One last thing, I can't really tell if butterfly stain does anything as it is above the playing area on this bat although I don't think this needs any help from the stain :D.

Superb bat, love the profile. Didn't know that BB were doing butterfly bats, can you share what you paid for it?

I don't think BB boys will mind me sharing this, it was 150GBP + shipping. I think the butterfly might have been a 1 off.

That's a very good price for a bat like that, hope it goes well for you.

Yes Buzz, I would agree that it does feel like all middle no vibrations on the toe, edges or anywhere else till I hit the butterfly stain and above it.

I actually have one of those Canadian coins, and it is almost double the size of your average coins. Huge bat.

I wanted to update this thread as now I have had a chance to use this bat. Last weekend my team played the semi-final of our T20 cup and I went in to open the batting, old fashioned biffing up the order from a lower order batsman, I didn't last long but every ball I connected went like a rocket. I can't imagine what this bat would have been like had the stain been in the playing area because I got caught at long on trying to just chip the ball over a inner circle fielder and it hit high on the face right where the stain is. For a few moments I just stood there thinking how the hell did it travel so far, then I walked off half sad and half smiling  :-[

Have a 40 over game tomorrow and I am in real dilemma as to which bat to use!! Plan was to use BBB in semi and RPC in final of the T20 cup, we didn't make it to the final, but now I want to use the RPC in the game yet my heart tells me BBB deserves another outing. Maybe that's the motivation I need to play a long inning so I can use both bats for a decent amount of time.

Even without the butterfly stain this is an incredible shape and responds amazingly, pick-up felt bottom heavy in non-match situations but in the game it was just like any other bat I even managed to play a pull (a shot which I never play) instead of ducking out of the way or upper cutting.

Thank BB guys, very happy with this bat

That is a stonking looking bat.

it remains as good a bat as I have ever had... it will be getting a whole load of use next season when I start playing again after a child induced sabbatical from playing this summer!

Tush

How does it compare to ur other bats Sir?

@Blank Bats right up there with the best mate :), I never ended up using my RPC because of this bat which speaks a lot about the quality of this one :). This and RPC are the only bats in my kit now, rest are either  sold or sitting in a bag somewhere to get rid off. Four BB bats now, every single one has been a cracking bat, first one (Scat shape) is now with @tejasapatel and he loves it, 2nd one for an aussie mate is still going strong and hitting massive shots, 3rd one with a pressing crack lasted a full season in league bat kit (used by 4 teams) and everyone was sad when it went.
