Pointless championship match? Does that mean the vital one that decides the result of the entire tournament?
-
Why can't Sky show both? There's nothing but tat on a tuesday during the day - the channels are just full of golden goals repeat programmes and amateur fishing. And tennis. Which is basically ping pong.
-
I would rather watch the club t20. Rather watch players who I can relate to than a county championship game, however important. Yet another example of sky/ecb failing to relate to the average cricketer. The ecb already pour huge amounts into the county game to keep counties solvent, at the expense of funding grass roots cricket.
-
Championship all the way. Sack off the slap and tickle
-
Rather watch championship cricket.
I can go to a local park for club stuff.
As for show both. Sky dint seem to have 2 set ups to be able to do that!
It was showed early on in the t20 tournament. That if the test finished at 6.30. And a t20 started at 7. They couldn't show both!
-
Completely agree that this should be shown and shocking that they have changed this late. Players might have even sorted sponsorship out for the day!
However I'm not signing up to an App that can post on my twitter and follow new people for me, sorry.
-
I think the petition has been gone about in a terrible way, slagging off the countries domestic league is not the way to go if you want fellow cricketers to support it...
Quite sure sky can setup both, but not sure they want to. They normally just don't want a t20 following a day of test due to lack of an audience after everyone's watched the test all day I'd have thought. Quite sure I've seen 2 county games covered at once.
-
Quite harsh to change there minds last minuet might be one of the only chances an amateur cricketer would get to play on sky.
-
Signed the petition, this is one event I look forward to watching on Sky - I understand that the CC game is pivotal in the title race, however they have the capability to be able to show both.
-

Peterborough Town have pushed for sponsorship quite a lot. They are now in a difficult situation. We are providing their track suits/warm up gear to arrive to the finals day in. We are subsidising some of the cost and will continue to do so despite loss of sky coverage.
A shame to lose it, I think the major problem is that all season they have been saying it will be broadcast live. To visit the clubs at the start of the week to discuss coverage etc and then to announce midweek that they were downgrading to a small highlights package is poor form.
Equally player priority should be to win, not to worry about a TV appearance that let's be honest, will have pretty poor viewing figures as many people who would watch will be at work.
-
Lets face it, the Championship game is going to decaide the title (well, probably confirm that the mighty Yorkshire have won the title) and is of interest to far more people than a Club day that, whilst of a high standard for the recreational game, means very little to anyone beyond the teams involved.
-
I've grown up playing alongside a few of the ashtead team when I was at Cheam and feel absolutely gutted for them as I consider them mates. This would probably be the biggest day of their sporting careers for most of them.
The way they have gone about slagging off the CC is wrong, but a lot of that is down to pure heartbreak at not being able to get their day in the sun.

and winning the Championship won't be for Jack Leaning, Alex Lees, Steve Patterson, JAck Brooks et al?
-
As Jake rightly points out - these clubs would of been pushing for sponsorship because it is a live televised event. Sky are kicking grass roots cricket in the teeth. Are Sky going to refund them if sponsors do pull out, I very much doubt it.

Sky could hardly have predicted the way the Championship would pan out though, could they? And they will know very well that they will get far more viewers for the Yorkshire game than they will for the NAtional T20, which has been disappointing to watch in the past and largely ignored.

They'll have more chances, they already get to perform on tv. For a lot of these guys, it may be their only chance.

If I knew the viewing figures we could be certain of that! I think the number of people watching cricket on a work day tuesday in september isn't going to be huge for a county game or club t20.

In either instance, you would not want to bank on it.

Yorkshire have a fan base in the tens of thousands at least, Notts have a decent chunk themselves and there will be casual interest (at least in the highlights) from fans of the Championship itself and people who want to see how the likes of Lyth, Lees, Taylor and Hales handle the pressure given they are being spoken of as possible England tourists. That is surely going to be more than they would get for a day when the vast majority of interested parties would have gone to the ground anyway!
Besides which, there is more than enough hit and giggle on the box already!
-
Sky should really have thought about this a little better!
Couldn't Sky have shown one match on the normal channel and then the other on the Red button?
-
Good point Pete. Sky are showing highlights, so they have camera's, crew, commentators there. Does it cost so much more to do it live?
-
Valid point that - you'd have thought they could rotate three commentators to keep costs down if needs be.

Could get it down to 1 if they hire Boycott. I'm pretty sure he could spend most of the day telling us what they are doing wrong ;-)

Surely it still is, TV cameras or No TV Cameras

You sure the highlights aren't the ones with the single camera that the ECB usually do occasionally for county games. If not I don't see much of a reason why they can't do it live really if it can be fit in alongside the CC.
-
Will be one, or two cameras maximum, and a commentator added later.
-
Sky should televise a championship game in every round in my opinion, doesn't get enough coverage

completely agree and a weekly highlights package.
-
I don't usually use the like button but I am all over that idea!
-

Agreed.
Club cricket has no place on TV, it's not a good enough standard
-
I think simply renaming one of the channels 'Sky Cricket' or just dedicating it would be a good start, I know sky sports 2 usually has all the cricket but surely now they've got enough old footage to dedicate a channel?
-
I have been waiting for this years. I don't want to pay for endless footy. I would pay £10 a month for a dedicated cricket channel though.
-
When and where are the highlights being shown?
-
When and where can you check the scores?
-
It's all over twitter if you search for the club pages
To be honest I've quite enjoyed watching the CC - batting master-class!
-

With as more looking for a page I could refresh. But hey, I'll have to search through the 900 clubs I follow on twitter for score updates.
The batting master class is sublime though, shame I'm not working from hoe, the next 3 days!
-
Try this mate: https://twitter.com/AshteadCC
They're tweeting the current game atm
Luckily I have a flat screen opposite my desk so my work rate will be exactly 0 this week!!
-
Inside edge! Outside the line, Missing off, shocking decision.
-
Roots' reaction was the best, looked like he'd burst out laughing!!
-
you'd have to laugh at that one - even after the inside edge I don't think it was going on to hit.
The ECB should be looking at Saggers appointment for next year because that one suggested his eyes have gone completely, there was absolutely nothing right with it.
-
If it was Gurney then no way was it LBW. He can't move it off the straight and with his angle either it was pitching outside leg to hit or if it was pitching on it was missing off.

Pitched middle and off, didn't really move and would have hit middle or middle and off on a second set....until Root got a huge inside edge which cannoned almost sideways into his pad, striking him three inches outside off. It was the kind of LBW that even sides who bring a mate along to chea...sorry, umpire for them don't give when the oppo are nine down in the last over because it'd just be too embarrassing!
-
Well Chester have done our league proud, well done to them a very good set up there and some top players playing for them. I think theyve played about 30 games in t20 this year in all comps and only lost 1 so they are doing something right
-
Root got a shocker. Good game to watch though :)
