Evening all
Just a quick post about my first attempt at binding a bat handle.
I always put half a grip on the bottom of the handle because of my dominant bottom hand.
Long story short a conversation with Wilkie about re-binding his SS and a trip to ebay later I had 3 10m lengths of 2mm waxed cotton cord.
Fast forward 90 minutes and 10m of my cotton, along with a big blister and several expletives this was the result!

Impressive mate. What kind of glue did you use?
-
Just the standard PVA I use for everything buddy.
Hopefully it won't come undone haha
-
Great job mate! I also use a half-grip for my bottom hand but find that, depending on the type of grip used, you can get a bit of twisting, etc. I will have to try this or get the bat-maker to do it when I get my next custom bat.
-
Top work Cam. I've never attempted it myself, looks like exactly the kind of activity that would give me a stroke.
-
Good job... I use a half grip too... May have to have this done on my next bat
-
Looks like a good effort, personally i would have finished it a little lower that you have to give more support to the shoulder, I'm guessing you ran out of string?
-
that or he started from the bottom!

No mate I didnt run out of string (at the bottom anyway!), this was deliberate. As JB said I started at the bottom when I did it.
I have OCD about the way the bottom of my grip sits, and it's much nice over just binding than a second grip.
The additional binding was to replace a second half grip rather that strengthen. So j marked where the extra half grip had been sat and put the binding there. The grip sits nicely and is easy to tape to the bat still so all in all I'm happy with my first effort.
Will take into account the added strength round the shoulder if/when I do my next one though mate :)

Warning - slightly mingin' picture!!
Is there any way I can avoid a repeat of this (other than not be a cack handed moron!) when hand bunding??

Wear a glove, or put a plaster over that part of your finger before you start, I reckon.

Take 2
Took you advice and went a bit further down Ryan.
Didn't take as long as the first attempt but I think I've done alright! ;)

Looks good, nice a tidy, have you thought about holding the bat vertically and spinning it, holding the tip of the handle with your thumb and finger? Or is that how you've done the last two? I remember the hand binding days and its one of the worst things to do.
-
I've done it resting the toe on a chair or my leg while trying to keep the twine tight and spinning the bat, almost feel as if I need a third hand though!
This one didn't take as long as my first effort as I had the spinning the bat technique going a bit better this time, as well as knowing how to finish it off (bind over a loop and pull it through)

Lol, thats exactly what happened to my index finger when i binded a whole handle by hand. I'll stick a band aid on it before i do it again next time!

Take 3
My SS Yuvi T20 arrived today so I've added an extra layer of binding to the bottom half of the handle.

Wow, 6 months since I last posted here!
Another couple I've just done. I plan to do a new thread with more details on these bats (along with some other kit) and why I've gathered it so keep your eyes out for that :D
