Title: Some long bladed lovelies....
Post by: tim2000s on October 31, 2014, 08:51:22 PM
As I know how much everyone loves a wee bit of bat porn,  and the missus is away and I'm not drinking I thought I'd share some long bladed lovelies with you all.  I'm not going to list the names and numbers....  You'll have to ask if you want their details,  but I think you'll recognise most.

All of them feel like good bats.  Some I'd say are better than others and I definitely have my favourites (and can probably give them a rank).

They all weigh between 2lb 10oz and 2lb 13oz, but can you guess which are which?

Anyway,  time for six of the best....  Enjoy!

I would say that would be Tims fav, most pingiest bat

Nah they went out of business before I joined the forum or shortly after. I had nothing to do with it [emoji6]

Interesting stickers, looks like something from the kgb or China

I suppose they were a TK special or imported from Pakistan given what looks like a Pakistan logo on it

Red ink or instinct look like my favourite ....Aldred looks right up my street as well

What happened to SAF bats, weren't tehy supposed to be good?

You are correct,  it is the most pingiest bat.  It's not my favourite though.

Instinct were setup by a forum member and sourced their bats from Keeley. This one was bought when they first started,  about four years ago as a forum special offer,  and was one of their top level bats custom made to my specs. They went bust due to issues with their supply chain (not Keeley).

I personally did not have a good experience with SAF, they gone now. Norms (Andy) had a lot of knowledge and in theory it made sense but there were other issues that make for bad business practices and customers won't return. Look through some of the posts on SAF and you'll know quickly

I sold my top of the line Hades on ebay for 11.50 it was that bad and I was that angry

I'm going to have to try a LB, I've never used one. I quite like a LH, everyone seems to say the LBs are well balanced

Ah,  SAF.  This is the bat that should be alongside the others as a long bladed beauty,  but sadly,  in its own way is a classic example of what happened to SAF.

It was requested as a long blade,  indeed I was travelling up to Andy's workshop to have it made in front of me after a rubbish first bat that he was replacing.

I arrived to find that in the clefts that he'd had handled and toe shaped he'd forgotten that I had asked for a Long blade,  so he made me this,  which is a long handle.  Fortunately it is incredibly well balanced and pings very well.  Sadly,  it wasn't quite what I asked for...

Still,  it's actually a lovely bat...

The Hades is a lovely shape! I think the persona I bought off here is that shape. It's massive for the weight and is a full profile

No,  the nemesis is a bog standard one bought cheap of eBay because I am a sucker for bats with silly shapes.

Yes,  a Hunts Butterfly,  made by the Huntingdon Podfather for me.  Comes complete with the turbo hole drilled out and has been drying out further since I got it as when the hole was drilled,  the content was a slushy mess. It has lost nearly 3oz in weight...

Given the Six shapes you see on display,  which do you reckon picks up best,  and which would you think is worst?

What happened to the 'general release' Hunts butterflies?

I'm not aware there were any. I asked for a Hunts Butterfly specifically as I hoped it would be cheaper and it turned out to be a lot cheaper...

That's a tough one I am going to guess Aldred velocity is probably worst pickup and red ink second worst

Dyna drive or hunts for best pick up

You've picked the two with the best pick up,  the winner of the two is actually the hunts.  Have another go on the worst.

There was a discussion in the summer. When I say 'general release', I mean for people on here.

B3?

B3?
Yes,  it is the worst pick up,  probably because it is the old powerbow shape with a low hump. Second worst is actually the Instinct,  which also has quite a low swell.

Tim is the only person ever to order one from us. We can and will still do them, with or without Turbo holes drilled, up to the buyer. Stickers are generally not included (certainly not Turbo ones anyway) but i twisted their arm in this case. Looking at around £100 i believe (will need to check)

Glad to hear the Dynadrive and Hunts are ranking highly, gives me confidence that i can get the right message into a batmakers head to meet a customers needs as well as pick a ready made bat to suit :)

That is bit of a surprise with B3 pick up.

Any chance of more pics of that Red ink

Mine was made to order because it's a long blade.

I am not sure they have any stock bats that are there specifically advertised as Butterfly bats. Some of the very lowest models for sub £60 might well be Butterfly, but we can definitely arrange a Butterfly bat to be made to order.

Ahh Tim - I know you love that Dynadrive, it certainly looks a cracker. I'd guess that would be your first bat?

I always liked the Instinct stuff - he was, I assume, another undone by his middle man.

Would the performance of the Instinct outweigh the pick-up?

In terms of favourites,  my dynadrive wins,  as you identify fattus. It's just lovely and I'd jump at another,  maybe in the new year.

The instinct is very,  very good and I would certainly put that second as these stand. And yes,  it was THE middle man that caused the issue.

The Aldred sits comfortably by a long way in third.  Why? Because for some reason,  I struggle to find its middle.  Bouncing a ball and Mallet,  it seems as good as the other two,  but for some reason,  in the nets and matches I've used it,  it just hasn't clicked in the same way.

The other three are in different stages of knocking in so haven't yet been netted with.  As such I can't comment on performance.
Garrett ,  for me long blade is an extra inch though some go up to two.

The hunts finally had a try out last night and it is as good as I suspected. The pick up is marvellous and I felt very comfortable using it. I'd heartily recommend a Hunts Butterfly. I don't think you can go wrong with them. Great price and this one goes!
