I've asked my other half for this for Christmas:
https://shop.lords.org/shop/lords-experience/the-lords-bat-making-experience/the-lords-bat-making-experience-2015/bme15-930-sashes
Anyone heard of it/been on it?
-
AFAIK you dont actually see them make the bat. I asked this at the test and you get to specify what you want but thats about it

Oh right. That's a bit rubbish then.
-
G.N have the captains day also there are few more Batmakers who let you see the bat being made inc pressing usually upto the point of waxing and finishing as this is mainly done over more than one daY.
-
From reading this is slightly different as not on a test match day. Does say you pick from pre-defined GN shapes so not really custom (unless ive misunderstood)
-
I went to one of these with a mate a few years ago. There are about 30 odd people there and you get walked around the ground and the museum before being shown a bat-making demonstration by one of the guys from GN. He does a bit of bat shaping, answers a few questions and then gives you a form to fill out. This is basically how you get your bat. You have a choice of current profiles and stickers (apart from the Legend). You can specify the weight, sweet spot position, bow, and handle length/shape.
They then make the bat in Robertsbridge and post it to you a few weeks later.
It's a fun day out but it's not a bespoke bat making experience.
-
To be fair, £225/£275 for a bat made at Robertsbridge is a bit of a bargain when you take into account the day out at Lords too - the tour is normally £36 for 2 people alone
-
its great, but I would say that....... :D

Little update on this.
My other half forwarded my request onto my darling Mother who promptly splashed out on the £275 Ashes Special edition job. Wonderful and I am very keen to go and watch the guy work his magic and ask him all manner of irritating but enthusiastic questions.
However, unfortunately I have double booked myself. A very good mate has his Stag weekend in Budapest that weekend (7th March), which I have fully paid up for and can't really miss. I'm currently trying to get hold of them to sort out my predicament, but the batmaker in charge is in India and therefore hasn't been at hand to get hold of.
Out of interest, if the date can't be changed would anyone on here be interested in taking it off my hands at near enough face value?
Admin's I realise this might mean the topic needs moving. Basically I'm selling first option on the ticket if I can't change the date.
-
Who is in India?
None of us are, is it one of the guys at Lords who's in India?
-
Also the date can't generally be changed, but we can make up your custom order and send it to you if needed!
-
Steve Naylor was in India but he's back now. Just spoke to him on the phone, top man. Explained that we can't change the dates but I can get a refund or the bat. I'm choosing the bat obviously! Now got to think what I want!
-
Bespoke Dynadrive!! They're dreamy! Tim's is totally amazeballs!
-
Yeah I was thinking Dynadrive but I also want a Xiphos which is effectively the same concept.
-
Steve is a top bloke I meet him and had a pint with him at lords after the expo top chap

Ooh god I've just been asked how many grains I prefer. I have no idea! I have an Aldred with 20+ grains and I got on well with one that had six...

Go for a happy medium of 13?
Or ask for anything between 6 and 20 and see what you end up with :D

I said around 15.
I've gone for a dynadrive shape in the following spec: 2.9 but can go up to 2.10 max, so somewhere in between there fully dressed would be ideal. With the balance I prefer it to be in the middle really, I got on quite well with an Oblivion so similar to that with the swell. One grip on a round handle is fine and grains wise something around 15 would be excellent. I don’t mind a bit of heart wood on the outside edge (RH) but not too much. Large bow in the bat with a toe guard and scuff sheet.
I'm unashamedly excited already!
-
Sounds exciting. I's quite like to see some pictures when you get some.
-
Apparently I can't get the Dynadrive in the grade on my voucher, so I've gone for an F18 less the danger stickers.

I wasn't aware there were different grades of batmaking experience!

Yeah there is two, 5 star (£225) and Ashes Special Edition (£275). Presumably the experience is the same, the difference would just be what cleft you get as your bat.
-
That's a bit wanky! Id've wanted the Dynadrive myself. F18's seem a bit girly, whilst Dynadrives seems a bit 'grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!! Yous gonna get sum punishment!'
-
Yeah I was disappointed about no Dynadrive but I'm sure I'll end up with a good one anyway.

Received the bat last night, here are the pictures:

I haven't weighed it yet but it feels a tad heavier than the 2.10, will do so tonight probably. Taps up ok, not as nicely as my Aldred did out of the wrapper but in my experience GN bats tend to feel quite hard but still go well. It needs a lot of knocking in before I can test it out in the nets though as a few strikes with the mallet left indents.
I'm not really too sure why they couldn't make me a Dynadrive out of that cleft but I am looking forward to having it ready for use.
