Title: Anybody watching the Ram Slam on Sky?
Post by: uknsaunders on December 12, 2014, 05:34:10 PM
Just caught some of it. Stand looks roughly the same standard as first class cricket here, but with the likes of Steyn/Amla playing. Cape Cobra's recovered well on a slow deck to post 158-4, scoring 100 in the last 10. Pollard smacked 43 off 23 balls. Looks like a good game in store.

I am now.

Despite watching all England's Odis and most of the aus test, I've not noticed an advertisement for this, otherwise would have been watching from the start

The IPL used to be bloody awful, I assume it's improved but I stopped watching after the novelty wore off you realise just how tacky the whole thing is. The English comp isn't bad to be fair, and the Big Bash is good cricket. Was impressed last year, every side had at least a couple of proper pace bowlers and most a good quality spinner, played on quick pitches. Very good for a domestic tournament.
Title: Re: Anybody watching the Ram Slam on Sky?
Post by: Thesmiff on November 04, 2015, 08:45:54 PM
I agree with the Big Bash comment above. For me it's easily the most watchable 20/20  comp to watch, more of a contest between bat and ball than the tedious circus that is the IPL, also think the commentary team they've put together is phenomenal

Is it the cricket that makes he big bash good or the atmosphere (seems jovial and not serious) and the commentary team being so good?? (Oh add in some legends like flintoff, KP, hussey still involved)

The atmosphere and packaging of it is a big contributor to making it an enjoyable watch to be fair, but the cricket on show is also solid.

Bit of both I guess, the pitches are better in my opinion so that helps with a contest between bat and ball rather than a game of glorified baseball. Add that to the fact that I dislike watching cricket in India as I find the continuous din of the crowd annoying, it like having 50,000 five year olds round for a birthday party

How many runs has he scored across Al formats this year despite playing sod all games and not bothering with practice for months on end??

Dudes an extrme talent. Just a shame it's been so badly managed from all sides.

You've sort of said what part of the problem is. He hardly plays, and that's his own choice to do that. I'm not so sure he is/was as serious about playing for England as he makes out. After reading his book and other things I sort of feel sorry for him and feel he could/should still be in the England fold, but playing a handful of games in England and playing all of the big money t20 tournaments isn't gonna get him anywhere and he knows that.

Does this show how poor domestic cricket is

Kp having a net here

Gayle did same thing in our t20

Or is it just certain players make others look average?
Title: Re: Anybody watching the Ram Slam on Sky?
Post by: smilley792 on November 08, 2015, 01:08:08 PM
I think we all know county level is a huge step from international.

Kp is still at international level as a player so is making the domestic lot look ridiculously average .

Had England or himself managed to manage his ego, you'd think he'd have broken so so many records on the international scene.

The tweet about the boxing day test made me chuckle.

He's still a world class player. Huge shame England couldn't find a way to manage him as a player. Confidence and arrogance come hand in hand when you have to be the best at what you do. Ego only cannot be blamed for his exclusion from the England squad.

Would be great to see him back in an England shirt, be it t20 ODI or test. We need him back. End of.

Title: Re: Anybody watching the Ram Slam on Sky?
Post by: smilley792 on November 15, 2015, 06:01:53 PM
He wasn't asked to play in last years ram slam so signed a multi year deal with Melbourne for the big bash.

This year they did want him for the ram slam but it was always gonna be she or as big bash starts next month.

Does he only care about t20? I don't think he does. But he knows his body is on the Devine and ha knee issues, when he was told he had a chance with England he played 4 day cricket, as soon as he was again told he didn't have a chance.
He took himself back to the format that both pays the most and does not effect his body as much.

At mid 30s your not gonna travel the world playing the 4 day game knowing you have no chance of ever playing a test again.

Surely a massive choke from the Cobras. They only needed 30 of 30.
Levi must be spewing

What a cracking game this!

Not half! I'm enjoying it tremendously and with 2 balls left still have no idea who's gonna win.

My missus just asked me to nip her somewhere. Not a chance was the answer!

That was some bottle job, but for that young 19 year old to hold his nerve as well is some serious going, at 19 I couldn't of bowled my team into a t20 final!

Dolphins batting in the final. Much needed bowling added to their line up with Tahir and Abbott

Dropped del port who hit a faster than run a ball fifty opening.

Guy that's replaces going so slow van wyk and Pieterson have thrown there wickets away trying to make up for it.

Reckon that change may have cost them this game

Sadly not on 1st name terms with him as the lid was organised through a 3rd party 😢 If he wins the final I'll fire him a tweet and see if he's feeling generous haha
