Using Kippax in World Cup.
And giving a good account of himself too.
Pureblade hopefully my next bat after injury recovery!
-
I hope he continues his good form into the county season.
-
Great signing for them, his bat looks quite big too.

You won't see a small kippax mate. They don't make anything in normal sizes anymore haha
-
His bat looked huge!
Very good advert for them
-
Off topic slightly but I'm sure I noticed another Scotsman using a Charlie French too...
Coetzer used his Kippax well against Bangladesh.. hit some huge shots....
-
The selection of bat brands on display suggested they'd been on the 'For Sale' section on here! ;)
How are Kippax able to make these huge bats? Is it that they have a lot of willow to choose from?
-
Gotta be drying the clefts a little longer?
They have their own willow,so I would think they can cut the clefts to whatever sizes they want.

I knew they grew their own willow. That was why I was suggesting they might have access to more low-density ones.
-
They cut their willow a lot bigger then others so can get a bigger edge to start with. They air and kiln dry the willow to aroun 8% before machinging to their standard shapes. Once they have the rough shape they go in to the dry room to keep at a constant moisture content. The main factory isnt heated so they would pick up the moisture pretty quickly if they didnt have the drying room especially in the winter months.
They are making some very good bats at the moment.
Ps. i've had a peak at some special stuff last time i was there. some of the blades had an 80mm edge!
-
80mm?
Why?
My bat at the moment has a very generous 60mm spine, why would you want your edges bigger than that?
-
I think it's for a limited edition, low density beast they're working on. Not sure on the shape of anything so couldn't say if it will finish that big.
-
I'm sure someone has already posted a Youtube Video of their bat making process on this forum before. Just re-posting

Have you ever tested a low density cleft bat against a normalish one? Performance wise?
Is it just a gimmick or is there more response from a lower density cleft?
-
There no more response bar the fact the bat is generally bigger an lighter so the hand speed can be the same but there more mass.
I guess I use nearly as low density as it goes with a minus 5oz in weight deficit so I use a 2-8 bat which should be really volume wise 2-13.
There not much rocket science really bar mass and equal swing times
-
As for kippax very underrated group are the two Chris's there not much they don't do and don't always get the credit they deserve
-
Was watching sky feature on Steve Waugh, and the thing that stands out is his bat speed.
Same with Lara etc.
They didn't use low density huge bats
Just thinking about Cooks old bats which lasted him a full season, scoring Loadsa runs,, compared to his newer bats that are more the low dense/huge type,? Would he be happier with his old style bats?
I must admit, I am tempted with the Kippax cleft size etc, but worried the performance is just an illusion based on the bat size
I suppose that's how they are sold

No - a bat with a mass of 2lb 8oz has a mass of 2lb 8oz regardless of the size of the bat.
A bat of the same mass but larger dimensions will have a higher bending stiffness, which will have an effect on performance (less bending in the blade = less energy lost on impact = theoretically more energy transferred to the ball). How much effect, I don't know!
-
Does the bending stiffness also depend on the bat profile?
Where the majority of the mass is located?
Does the handle length affect the bats overall stiffness ?
What if the moisture content of the bat varies throughout the blade length ?
-

Depends entirely on the profile, not the mass. Obviously the most mass will also be located around the stiffest part of the profile though.
-
Interesting thing for me was the mention of 8% moisture in the willow, I thought most manufacturers were around 10-11%?

Sorry what I ment to say is I can also get a bigger mass bat for my weight too than a heavier density cleft.
My Tonto shape is roughly 38mm edges and 68mm spine full profile at 350 comes in at 2-7. So same shape volume wise at 400 would be 2-12 but if you found a 340 cleft I could either have the same shape at 2-6 or increase the volume And make it 1mm bigger all round increasing the volume whatever people call it.
Density allows in principle
Bigger bats in lighter weights
Average weight of a light clefts I come across 2-11 to 2-13 after being initially plained
Yes so mass can be effected be weight you can either have a lighter bat or a bigger (mass) volume than the shape of you get my drift
Also my experiment with natural low density is they last longer than artificial low density based on radiators and airing cupboard techniques.
-
Do SS/Ton, artificially over dry their clefts to achieve their larger than life profiles?
Or the few that appear with no concaving/full profiles at very low dead weights are just low density clefts?
-
I suspect because they use so many clefts by nature they will get there fair share plus the natural heat in the countries there made is a massive advantage to Asian brands in terms of getting bigger looking bats.

I think you mean volume here, mass is effectively the same thing as weight, as long as all bats are on planet earth, if I remember my school physics ok.
-
Yes volume I never went to school I have corrected

Try getting into county cricket these days without going to the 'right' schools!ha

We played against Kyle on Saturday (he's been playing for Market Harborough) - luckily got him cheap but in the mean time he hit some of the cleanest shots iv seen, and I looked at his Kippax with a great deal of envy. Thankfully, most of these went straight to fielders... I got one at midwicket that left a nice ball impression on my palm. It could have been a bloodbath!!!
-
I see he ran someone out as well, was it good?

Neh, batsman mix up, hit it to midwicket and partner said no half way (sold down the river big time)...still had time to slip on his backside turn and get back. We are certain he made it!! The lad run out plays Hockey for GB and is absolutely rapid.

Hmmm i think the TV umpire would have been required on that occasion and he does look in but you can't say for sure due to angles of the photo.

A certain Charles Dagnall playing in that game, I see!
-
Yep charlie has been at my club for 3 seasons now. Basically hobbles around on one leg and bowls off a couple of paces, but moves the ball all over the place. His biggest asset is his ability to raise the levels of the lads around him by setting high expectations, particularly useful for our younger lads

New captain of Scotland.
-
No longer a Kippax ambassador, it seems.
-
That's correct now uses his own brand Zeus cricket, played against his club team and as you expect the majority of them ere alwso using it as well
-
It would seem they now have Luke Proctor and Rob Jones on there list.

Picture I saw had him using an unstickered bat.

Well if there's a chance to sign a deal with another sponsor you would but if it doesn't work out he could always use his own brand couldn't he
