There no more response bar the fact the bat is generally bigger an lighter so the hand speed can be the same but there more mass.

I guess I use nearly as low density as it goes with a minus 5oz in weight deficit so I use a 2-8 bat which should be really volume wise 2-13.

There not much rocket science really bar mass and equal swing times

Was watching sky feature on Steve Waugh, and the thing that stands out is his bat speed.
Same with Lara etc.
They didn't use low density huge bats
Just thinking about Cooks old bats which lasted him a full season, scoring Loadsa runs,, compared to his newer bats that are more the low dense/huge type,? Would he be happier with his old style bats?

I must admit, I am tempted with the Kippax cleft size etc, but worried the performance is just an illusion based on the bat size
I suppose that's how they are sold

No - a bat with a mass of 2lb 8oz has a mass of 2lb 8oz regardless of the size of the bat.

A bat of the same mass but larger dimensions will have a higher bending stiffness, which will have an effect on performance (less bending in the blade = less energy lost on impact = theoretically more energy transferred to the ball). How much effect, I don't know!

Does the bending stiffness also depend on the bat profile?
Where the majority of the mass is located?

Does the handle length affect the bats overall stiffness ?
What if the moisture content of the bat varies throughout the blade length ?

Depends entirely on the profile, not the mass. Obviously the most mass will also be located around the stiffest part of the profile though.

Interesting thing for me was the mention of 8% moisture in the willow, I thought most manufacturers were around 10-11%?

Sorry what I ment to say is I can also get a bigger mass bat for my weight too than a heavier density cleft.

My Tonto shape is roughly 38mm edges and 68mm spine full profile at 350 comes in at 2-7.  So same shape volume wise at 400 would be 2-12 but if you found a 340 cleft I could either have the same shape at 2-6 or increase the volume And make it 1mm bigger all round increasing the volume whatever people call it.

Density allows in principle

Bigger bats in lighter weights

Average weight of a light clefts I come across 2-11 to 2-13 after being initially plained

Yes so mass can be effected be weight you can either have a lighter bat or a bigger (mass) volume than the shape of you get my drift

Also my experiment with natural low density is they last longer than artificial low density based on radiators and airing cupboard techniques.

Do SS/Ton, artificially over dry their clefts to achieve their larger than life profiles?
Or the few that appear with no concaving/full profiles at very low dead weights are just low density clefts?

I suspect because they use so many clefts by nature they will get there fair share plus the natural heat in the countries there made is a massive advantage to Asian brands in terms of getting bigger looking bats.

I think you mean volume here, mass is effectively the same thing as weight, as long as all bats are on planet earth, if I remember my school physics ok.

We played against Kyle on Saturday (he's been playing for Market Harborough) - luckily got him cheap but in the mean time he hit some of the cleanest shots iv seen, and I looked at his Kippax with a great deal of envy. Thankfully, most of these went straight to fielders... I got one at midwicket that left a nice ball impression on my palm. It could have been a bloodbath!!!
