ya doesn't seem so crazy.. wonder what quality of willow they would use.. im sure if they are getting that price directly they are still making pretty profit by cutting out the middle man...

the willow used of the Platinum Reserve is better than that used of the LE or the Gold Edition bats......lighter clefts with tighter and cleaner grains.......but believe me the bat is worth every bit of the money I put on it....

I've made a few posts over the last 6 weeks and in looking for a new bat I have just bought an SS Limited Edition over the internet through www.sscricket.com (India) and had it delivered to Australia. I was looking for 8-12 grains, 2lb 7ozs with 30mm edge (if not bigger), grade 1 willow, light balanced pick up ... Specifications included LH = handle 32cm top to shoulder and LB = bat blade shoulder to toe 58cm and white grip. Current bat is 2lb 5ozs 30mm edge and 84.5cm length (29cm handle/55.5cm blade). With specifications I got what I ordered except the bat has 14 grains not 8-12 grains, SS advised weight would be between 2lbs 9ozs-2lb 10ozs and it feels no more than 2lb 7ozs- 2lb 8ozs and it has 40mm edge. Aesthetically, SS could brand/burn TON on the bat rather than using stencil/ink and look at having a better finish to the toe of the bat (from end on) by sanding it off to a finer finish. With things in perspective, for what I have paid for bats in the past and what I paid for this SS - this SS really is in a league of it's own at this point in time. If it performs as well as I suspect then I will be one very happy customer. Pics to come.

Amazing if it does have 40mm edges, even the bats SS make for test player aren't that big.

It may have a tiny, almosy unrecognisable spine to make up for the huge edges - would like to see pictures of the bat as it sounds to good to be true......we all know SS have got their game together but this sounds beyond the reaches of even the most skilled podshaver.

The actual weight of the SS bat I bought has been on my mind as to what it really is, keeping in mind how light it feels/picks up. The bat has been picked up by about 12 people now (aged 16 to 45) and they all can't believe the size and how light it is and have been asking me how much it actually weighs. Most have been guessing something between 2lb 7ozs-2lb 8ozs. Had it weighed at Greg Chappell Cricket Centre this afternoon and it comes in at 2lb 9 and 1/8th ozs. Fooled me and pretty much everyone else.

Your bat will be 2lb7oz without the grip and toe guard. Most companies assume that the weight requested is for the nude bat (without the stickers, toe guard and grip). It is always best to mention what weight you want with all sundries put on the bat.

However, if it picks-up like the way you want it to, then you should not be bothered.

I recently ordered a CA from The Sports HQ. I asked for a 2.9 bat. The bat that was sent to me had a sticker on the edge saying 2lb9oz but in the scale the bat weighted 2lb11.5oz!!!

I think what Yash is trying to say is that his bat without stickers and grips was probably close to 2.9 but with the grip and stickers and toe guard it was 2.11.5..

Sports HQ are not specialist cricket retailers like Owzat or VKS etc. etc. they just get stuff in and sell it without even making an effort to add some value buy giving advise or weighing the bats before sending.

The guy whom I spoke to at Sports HQ could not even explain what the diff in willow was for the 8000, 10000, 12000.....

There is no question about hiding the truth as here. I have had bats made from UK bat makers and had the same issue. Most batmakes while making custom bats would assume that the weight you mentioned is for the bat itself without the sundries on it....

As I have asked already (but deleted) , are these SS stickers real ?

Have SS dropped the name Sunridges as they refer to themselves on their very own website ?

bat no.7 the ss bat looks like a lun bat how did it go in the nets for you?

The net session confirmed in my mind that this bat I have (ie particular SS Limited Edition) is one hell of a bat. I got the spec of LB/LH etc etc I wanted and that was the first step. Now the performance of willow on leather shown in the nets is as good as it gets for me. It is a pretty big bat and has a big sweet spot/area to match. Maybe that's why Kieron Pollard uses one? (He may not use a SS Limited Edition but the stickering looks a little alike?) You can really feel the ball compress into the face of the blade when you hit the ball and that feel is impressive. It's a bit like your mind appreciating the feel of your golf club hitting a ballata golf ball vs a cheap one. (Maybe that's not such a great analogy?). Anyway, it now has me asking a few questions about the other bats I've used/own. I wanted performance and I've got it from a AUD250 bat. First match is this Sunday if the weather holds out.

Came in at No.7 needing 30 or so to win with 15 or so overs to go. Hit a straight drive for 4 second ball
(just played through the line without much power) and then moved on to 10 with singles and twos in the next 4 overs (didn't get much strike). Unfortunately got given out caught by the keeper with the ball going down legside nicking off the outside of my left front pad. Oh well, ..... that's criket. Won the game. The bloke who batted No. 4 for our XI used it and hit 28 and is going to buy one. He needs a new bat and what I have fits the bill perfectly.
