Title: Craig Kieswetter Retires
Post by: RoCo Da Pixie on June 05, 2015, 09:35:23 AM
After the eye injury he got he has decided to retire from the professional game. It is a shame as he had talent in the county circuit. Doubts about his international quality though

Such a shame... :( People from within the game say he was a hard worker and was in the process of working even harder to get back into the England set up.
Good luck to him in whatever he decides to do..

Good luck to him, he mentions that he felt he could no longer give 100% so i respect him for calling time on his career.

Will always be remembered for the T20 world cup where he was quite brilliant and took a fresh approach of "bongo"ing it miles at a time which England so badly needed that kind of player opening in the shorter formats. One of the best big hitters over the extra cover boundary iv seen.

a real shame, shows how short a sportsmans career can be in any sport

I got hit a couple of years ago in the cheekbone and my face looked very similar to his when he got the injury. perhaps makes you think we should never take playing the great game for granted

Shame as he was a huge asset to Somerset and England when they picked him. Let's hope Somerset find someone to replace his ability as current keepers are pretty woeful

A shame for any person to give up the sport they love. And now also very awkward for M&H with the CK22 range... will it quietly go away or stay or? Who knows but a shame all round!

Real, real shame but if you feel you can't perform 100%, you can't enjoy it. Will be missed

Interesting interview from Kieswetter:
http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/889487.html (http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/889487.html)

England dressing room "Cliques" - no doubt he's talking about broad, Anderson, swann and bresnan

NatWest Blast "a complete shambles" - think most people think that anyway

"too many mediocre players in county cricket"

Sounds a lot like stuff KP said ;)

Read this earlier. He mentioned them playing English vs Saffers in training, and dressing room jokes about the SA members, and how this damaged morale. I think in any dressing room this goes on when you have an Aussie, Saffer, etc. in the team? At the end of the day, they're all cricketers and should be able to get along with each other and play together regardless of who's friends with who etc. I'm sure all of us have a teammate/colleague we aren't best mates with, but you get on with it!

I think that this just shows what pinheads some of the England team are/were.

This is a continuing narrative which implies that there is a distinct lack of:
1 real world awareness,
2 brain cells.

I would argue these points are proved beyond doubt by the fact they let Stuart Broad speak in public.

Plus, there is a difference between gentle ribbing and institutionalized discrimination. How long before the mud sticks?

Has there been any suggestion that, given it has ended a promising career, Craig may seek damages from the producer of the helmet he was wearing when struck in the face?

Who knows? However I suspect that he will be insured against a career ending injury, in common with lots of pro sportsmen. Maybe they would then pursue a claim against the helmet manufacturer?

Seems like there is a family business for him to move into now.

All Masuri would say is that he had that gap between grill and peak to big and therefore he is responsible

Which wasn't the stance they took when Broad was hit through an Ayrtek/Adidas lid.

am I the only one reading the interview and other press clips about his injury thinking he seems undecided about retiring and no one(medical people) have actually said his sight over time cannot improve? he is saying during the day it was ok the problem came under lights and night matches...

dont know who is keeping at Somerset but now Butler is at Lancashire there could be a way back for him. It's a real shame what happened and you feel for the guy.

A huge shame. It was cool to see him over here in Oz for the BBL. I hope he had a sizeable insurance policy. This has no doubt cost him millions.

I think what he has said is that he can still play but not to the level he was at or the level he would aspire to. Chances are he will be on an expensive club contract for a fair few years. Imagine him batting in a Prem team it could be fireworks!

i agree can see him playing club cricket on decent money!

some of money in our league is daft. one of the overseas pro's is on 10k a season
