HI guys,
I bought this LW for a forum member yesterday and the least I can say is that the bat is a total wreck. However, the seller maintains that there is no problem with the bat and that I should have expected to receive the bat in this condition.
My question is: Should the seller not made clear in his listing that the bat had crack and broken edges?
I asked the seller to refund me the money less the postage and he refused saying he has already spent the money!!
He was fully aware of the condition of the bat and willfully ignored to mention it in his emails or listing on the forum....
He sent me the pictures of the bat but with the antiscuff and edging tape on, so it was impossible for me to make out if there was any damage to the bat.
Should I not be entitled to a refund?
Also the seller claimed to have spent £12 on the postage whereas the printed postage on the box mentioned £6.66!! According to the seller Special Delivery costs £17.00!! I just sent a bat out today morning to petehosk using special delivery and it coat me £8.65!! But the seller of this rubbish bat to me claims that Royal Mail in his area charge £17.00!!! How on earth is this possible??
Some pictures of the bat:

I put a piece of paper in the crack along the edge and it came out from the crack along the 2nd grain!!
The cracks run under the face of the bat which make the willow puffy.....i hope the batmakers on the forum get what i am saying.
-
You could sue him for false marketing and listing.
-
If you report this to eBay you will get a full refund . . .open a case against the seller. If the item description failed to mention any crack etc you will get your money back
How much did it cost you?
-
I wish it was a eBay transaction, I would have ripped the guts of this guy!!!.
Unfortunately, I bought this from a forum member and paid £100 for it as the listing mentioned it was LW Private Bin
-
Royal mail postage is standard rate SD @ £8.65 and 1st class at £6.60 ish. It wont vary if your if an affluent area!!
Next day delivery with our courier which you can track is only £7.50 so not sure where he has plucked the figure £17.00 from as the bat would be under 2kg when sending it.
Sounds like a difficult issue to tackle if he wont offer a refund and a wallpapering over the cracks has occurred with the edge tape and face sheet! I would hope honesty and integrity would prevail and he should realise the fact you haven't named and shamed him in your post and are looking for some opinions to resolve the matter maybe he would reconsider his stance.
-
sorry it just says you bought it FOR a forum member in the 1st post . . .firstly i name the forum member and report him to admin
Not sure what else you can do . . .if you paid for it via paypal can you open a case against them? Im sure they have a resolution centre
-
If you paid by paypal then can't you take it up with them as I thought they were pretty hot on this type of thing?
-
Hi mate - I would speak to Leo and the other forum administrators to see what they suggest?
And also try to resolve the issue in a diplomatic way?
I have a Private Bin, and they are normally excellent bats - assuming of course that they have been knocked in properly and are not on their last legs with cracks all over the place! :-\
If you could wait for a week or two, then maybe whoever sold you the bat could be persuaded to save the money up to repay you for this bat - that was obviously not as described! If the seller is willing to come to a fair agreement to pay the money back over a couple of weeks, then do you think you could be happy with that?
But if the seller is not willing to be fair, then PLEASE tell us all who they are, as there are a few people who like to buy the odd bat or two! And we should really know who we should avoid!! >:(

Sorry that is a typo error. I bought the bat from a forum member.
Made a direct bank transfer.
-
i can tell u that the postage for special delivery is around £8.70 as my dad is a postie and wont be anywhere near £17 as the seller made out

I wanted to try a LW bat before buying one and hence thought of buying this one assuming I woudl get a good bat at a good price. But it was not to be.
I am very sure the bat was not knocked in well as the middle is a bit concaved...hope you get what I am saying.
-
I'm afraid this is one of the downfalls of the forum - no safety for people buying any goods - tough luck on this one Yash, seems like you got sold a duffer and from what you say it sounds as if the bat is de-laminating on the face........which isnt good.
I got stung by a member on the forum before so make sure i have good comms with the buyers/sellers in case things happen, but this doesnt stop people doing what they've done to you - shame on them.
By the way, most Laver faces have a slight concaving due to the press James has, havnt seen it on many other bats before to be honest.

exactly my point mate. Everyone makes mistakes. But if they are prepared to acknowledge them and correct them then there is no problem. But if they want to argue and try to defend their mistake (whether intentional or unintentional) then it is wrong.
This is exactly the reason why I have not mentioned the seller's name.....
I have had many bats and I can tell there is not much left in this bat. When you tap the ball you can hear 2 sounds as the top of the willow is detached from the lower in some places. But the seller insist it is because it is a carbocane handle.....I have owned a C6+ and I know they make a different sound but not like the one i get on thsi bat....
-
Slightly confused you put a piece of paper in the edge [side of the bat] and it went through it and came out at the second grain on the face?
-
I sent the seller the pictures of the bats last night and got the followign text back this morning:
Text 1:
"When I attached the last anti scuff on to the bat all those marks were on the blade and the performance was still top notch. With a good refurb those superficial marks will be gone and the bat will be ace, remember the bat is 2 years old now...."
I responded saying that by no length of imagination these were superficial cracks and that I could slide a sheet of paper right through some of the crack.
Text 2 from the seller:
" I didn't think I needed to mention the slight cracks due to the age of the bat and the nature of the wood and how it ages. When I put a new scuff sheet on it the cracks were that big i'd go for of refurb it then but they weren't"
Like Dom said, the top of the bat has de-laminated from the rest of the wood.....
I spoke to one of the bat makers today and they asked me to put a bit of superglue and see if the bat made a different sound. I put some super glue on the crack on the edge and it came straight out from the face of the bat!!! Thats how bad the cracks are.
Did it as best i could be the bat is definitely on a death bed.
-
"whereas the printed postage on the box mentioned £6.66!!"
I just noticed this statement you made! 666 - The sign of the devil!!
That be the devils bat!!
Seriously chap - give the seller a day to resolve it or to come to an arrangement.
And if he doesn't, then name and shame!!
But also ensure that the admins know! As they may be able to apply a little pressure to resolve this too ???
-

Yes Norb, if you see the crack it is very near to the face of the bat and when i put paper inside to see how deep the cracks were in certain places i could see the corner of the bat coming out from other side.....same thing happened with the super clue.....
-
And if the seller says that it just needs a refurb, then maybe you should ask him to make an agreement with you in writing?
If he is so confident that its just a refurb required, then put his money where his mouth is!
If its sent for a refurb and thats all it needs, then no worries. But if the person doing the refurb states that the bat is knackered, then the seller needs to give you a full refund???

good point on the 666
the guy wants me to send the bat back to him and he will get it refurbed for me, but I do not want bat as I know it will not last even through the winter nets.....and not worth the £100 I paid.....
i have offered him a fair deal - he should return the money less the P&P mentioned on the postage label and I wills end the bat back to him.
-
Yeah i have to agree he should give you a full refund minus the postage of the 'devil' . . .its clear that he has deliberatly deceived you, very cunning 2 the method of payment was that his idea or yours yash??
If all it required was a refurb then he should have said this and if he did it should have set off some alarm bells for you.
-
i just spoke with James at Fusion Sports and he said it sounds like the pressing has come off a bit and hence the puffiness and the win sounds. He said he could do some repair but it will not be worth it as it will cost upwards of £30 as he has to inject glue in to the bat and re-press the bat. But the seriously reckons it is not worth going to the trouble as the problem cannot be 100% cured and will resurface eventually.......
......so a refund seems to be the only logical solution....
-
Everything considered Yash - give him a day to come to his senses?
You have seen the 'devil' close up, and if the cracks are that bad, and its destined for the big binn in the sky, then the only option is to get the refund! :-\
-
the guy has offered me £30 for the refurb. Hope it is worth it. Waiting for the cheque to come...
-
Yash - are you coming to visit Lukey any time soon? If so, I could lend you my Laver for a net or two if you're wanting to try before you buy?
-
I mean, I have seen disappointing experiences of buying a cricket bat online (without picking it up, and having the feel of it regardless of price and brand) but this one has to be in one of the top 5 worst cases. Before throwing £100.00 out of car window, did u at least ask for a few detailed pics?
If I was you, I would print out his description details and the text messages and simply file a police report. I have done that before and I know it works :)
-
Unfortunately buying bats across the forum can be a problem if the seller is short of morels ? its very easy not to mention any problems and again its easy to make pictures look good. I have had the odd issue with sellers and he also charged a ridiculous amount for p&p although he did take the bat back. I will say that most sellers are very genuine and if you find members which are not then i feel you should name them, they have a fair opportunity to reply and put there own point across and other members wont be fooled in the future by bad sellers.

Best thing to do when paying for stuff on here is get the seller to send you a bill on paypal and then accept it as if you do get scammed you can dispute it.
DONT EVER GIFT THE MONEY !! As if you get scammed then you know what paypal will say.
Name And Shame The Git !!
-
Go to PayPal, open the resolution centre, simply say 'item arrived damaged' and indicate that you want a full refund. After all the seller said the bat was in perfect condition. Lets give the seller a double whammy then - no bat and no money from it.
Go on Yash, its what people like that deserve.
-
he used a direct bank transfer not paypal
-
he used a direct bank transfer not paypal
Yeah so hes got no comeback unless the seller gives him the money back.
feel sorry for yvk.
Name the guy
-
name and shame then!
-
Name him yash, this is a disgrace, thought there were morals on this forum- some clearly dont have any.
-
It is a dire shame that we get the odd nut sack on the forum, i am sure that over 9/10 people on the forum are genuine and would provide 1.proper detailed honest listing's 2.realistic postage costs 3. Good after service, including refund service and back up or receipts for authenticity.
It stops people trusting some of the senior forum sellers !
Rant over
-
Well im sure many will agree to deal with the more senior and highly respected members of this forum e.g tom, the retailers, pinch hitter, talisman etc etc. Unfortunately yash youve been effectively 'mugged'. If its too good to be true it usually is.
-
Dont name and shame them yet. Its not really going to help the problem is it? And to people saying report to admin, at the end of the day they cant do anything, its about the seller of the bat having morals.
-
I disagree I think everybody has a right to know who the member is, it may not solve the problem but it will minimise it happening again!
Admin could then ban said member thus creating a saver environment for honest members to trade in
-
if you name the person via pm to leo and or moderators hopefully appropriate action can be taken. if you leave it public it will only cause trouble. if your really serious about it (which is fair enough) i would take legal action.
