Title: It's arrived!! It's arrived. Warner replica is here
Post by: smilley792 on September 24, 2015, 12:55:57 PM
So it's arrived. Or more accurately I picked it up and paid the extortionate customs charge.

306 for bat with the exchange rate.
94.43 in charges!!!!!! I got stung.

On arrival. The packaging could have been better, cardboard box is a tad larger than the bat, and inside it had one bubble wrap bag. You could hear the bat rattle and move as I took it to the car.

There is damage! Thankfully just on the toe, but it's still damage(I'm ignoring the nick I've just caused.

Anyway, the bats here it's is.

One thing I have noticed is that it's a ssh handle not a short handle. Which may cause issues.

Ping is pretty good(kingsgrove knocked it in) and it doesn't feel soft, feels quite normal on that front.

It picks up well. Very well, better than the 3 bats it's pictured with.

Colossus is 2.14
Nemesis 2.12.5
Mullanator 2.13

So who's gonna guess on its actual weight??

2.13+..otherwise why would the "better pickup" be relevant... ;)

I too have a Mullanator, albeit a 2.11 - given that's dwarfing yours, it's an absolute beast.

Captain Caveman carried something similar I think...

Now that's a mans bat! Very nice,  a hundred quid in customs charges is a bit of a dampener! It's worth it though I guess to get something as big as that. I'm glad it's pressed a bit firmer than you expected, you wouldn't want it to be so soft that it wouldn't last long!

My laver and wood was 25 quid on a 235 pound bat. Was hoping for something similar!!

Been talking to grays on Twitter r.e it, as there batmaker says it will be overdried and weak. But compared to my malik and ca. It's doesnt look or feel dry at all.

The small handle is annoying me at the moment though, a shame it be January until I get to use it!

I was talking to Marcus after he was at the Kent game on Matts stall. He said he was talking to warner and had a look at a few of his bats. Warner reckoned he got a batch at a time and only maybe 25% survived!

It's good that it doesn't feel too dry, hopefully you've got a really low density cleft that hasn't needed to be over dried!

At least you've got a couple of months to experiment with some tape and get the handle how you want it, if it was 40 quid you'd be happy with the customs but I bet a hundred felt like they'd taken your eyes out!

Amazing! That isn't a bat it's a broadsword or perhaps a caveman's club. The grains look brilliant as well. I hope it performs as well as it looks. An absolute monster. Keep us informed on the bats progress.

An inch of twine and then some medical tape(or whatever it is)

The Warner Legend I have has exactly the same tape and twine on the handle although mine is a full length handle. I put a double grip on it and it has improved the pick up even more! The only down-side I can see at the moment, after using it in 6 or so games is that it destroys whatever little  technique I had as I want to hit everything over the top... Opened in the first game last Sat and faced a nice in-swinger at pace in the first over: drove/flicked it over mid on/wicket for an 70 meter 6... Love this bat!!!!!

The pic makes it look less insane than it is. Big bow!!

@rich041187 being an opener that's only ever made drinks once. I doubt I could bat the full 46 and just block.

When I enquires I was told to be quick, as kings grove only had 2 left in stock and would not recieve anymore again. Last one must have gone.

Muelamans and gccc I believe had stock but never entertained my request for a delivery quote, where as kingsgrove service was pretty good.

Bizarrely for someone that bought this bat, edge size isn't something that gets me excited. I merely wanted a bat the pro's apparently get.

But as a pic and a tape measure are easy to do. Here you go.

I got mine from Muelmann and at the time, they were the only one (I could find) selling them. Mine does not have the grading ("Players Edition") stickered on it. It just has a number ( x of 20 ). Bob Muelmann told me that Stuat Kranzbuhler made those.

I love the bow. I searched far and wide and finally with this bat found a big bat with a big bow. This is the perfect shape and size for me. I took the custom route but that left me with nothing but disappointment. Yay for Grey Nicolls!!

Tried Muelamans a few times but got ignored and fobbed of, was happy when kingsgrove got hold of some.

Not sure if Stuart did this lot but, it's definately a Warner rep bat.

The players is lasered in, quite a cool feature, also says DW mid profile, which I believe the muelmans ones don't.

And I was in the same boat, asked b3, Affinty, UK grays and a few others for one of these dimensions and just got resounding no's!!!m
So glad atleast one division of grays had the balls to release them to the public.

I wonder why the handle is taped or whether is it going to last a season? From the outset, it may make the handle whippy early in its life but will also make is less durable.

The super short handle was is more worrying me than the tape instead of binding.

Was contemplating a new handle now, but think I need to use it first. I'm already in talks with gray nics UK r.e a re handle at the end of next season when I get it refurbed.
Just hope the still have some carbo handles left by then......

Hi senior player.

1inch of binding, then just tape. Underneath is merely the cane handle. It's quite thin so you can see through it.

I read elsewhere it's to give a thinner grip, save weight while still helping to retain the handle together.

Yes I read that but I find having small hands as well and mind being oval at the bottom stops me gripping the bat so it looks like me reducing the handle thickness that's why I wondered whether you could just use tape on these handles without the handle coming apart rather than binding plus tape.

I like a round but thick Handle.

I've already had the grays grip off(as very thin) and dropped a nb chevron and a octopus on top.

Hopefully won't need to add another chevron underneath. Having it twined may be an option in the future

Also to note the bats are a lot smaller than his current lot, and he claims a 2.9 and 3/4 as his weight.

Cracking looking bat, good that it doesn't seem too dry! Going by how hard you hit the ball and how many bats you go through though, I'd be mega surprised if it lasts until the end of next season for the refurb! :D

Tape just makes the handle a bit thinner, bound at the bottom to strengthen around the ears. The bats are his exact replicas including the top of the handle nipped off, all have been magic. Through our 5 stores we got about 14 in and all gone within a fortnight, no more to follow either.

How do I add pictures? My friend has a kaboom direct from David that I have some snaps of.

My friend did some work for David and his management, and they got to talking about cricket, David was nice enough to part with one of his Kabooms. The bat is huge, although recently I think he has been using bigger. This was gifted around two years ago. David said this bat had been used for a couple of sessions on the bowling machine at the Australian Cricket Centre in Queensland, as well as some white ball cricket.

@Jacky what weight is that kaboom.

It looks very dry, very much like the Aaron finch puma/new balance that is residing in a Nottingham factory.

A very dry bat, doubt it had been oiled in its life, weight was around 2.10. Only had a hit with some bowling machine balls, and went very well. Also note that the face was covered in indentations, likely hadn't been knocked in very much, or very softly pressed.

How does the bat go? Am looking at getting a new bat and so far have narrowed it down to one of these or a XXX9 from meulemans. Any ideas?

As its the off seasons I can't really tell you how it goes.

Merely show you a ball bouncing on it.

And I was in the same boat, asked b3, Affinty, UK grays and a few others for one of these dimensions and just got resounding no's!!!m
So glad atleast one division of grays had the balls to release them to the public.

Did you ask us???

Yes, ages ago. Was before you started getting the larger clefts in mind.

Hi @smilley792 - whats your final verdict on this bat?

I saw one at Kingsgrove Sports in Sydney today (here on holiday), and it picked up really really well...my only question would be, have you noticed it being unusually dry (as it supposedly is), and does it show signs of being so dry (face flaking off, cracking easily, etc etc) ?

Since its a replica, I assume it wont be dry unlike the real Warners bat.

Hi @brokenbat

As it is our off season, and the only cricket I've had is indoor league or 2 forum nets. I haven't used it, merely let people have a feel and tapped balls on it.

It is not dry by a stretcher. My ca is a lot drier. And the pro bats on the shelf in b3 that they have took copies from, are also dryer.

Once the summer is up and our club nets built, it will get a fibreglass scuff and used till it breaks.

If you say so.

2lb 8.5oz at those dimensions? Surely that's impossible even if you dry to 0% moisture content by weight? (Assuming Smileys is a light cleft, and at 10% moisture content)

Seeing as he works in one of the few shops that got to sell this very rare edition then yes. He says so.

But then everyone knows(except yourself it seems) your waffling on about the standard of the shelf kaboom.

Please can you post some pictures of your full profile, 2lb8.5 bat with 55mm edges and a 65mm spine?
Preferably some that confirm these dimensions and one of it on the scales...

@Seniorplayer

Basically Alan, they're talking about a replica of Warners bat with same edge, spine etc etc.  You can buy lighter GN Kabooms but not with the same specs as Warners.

Anyway. Misunderstandings(or whatever this is) aside.

The Warner has had a small edged replica arrive.

(http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h76/smilley792/B450DCC0-C213-44A4-9D1D-9ADEE8E5B1AA_zpsmgqvkgpq.jpg) (http://s61.photobucket.com/user/smilley792/media/B450DCC0-C213-44A4-9D1D-9ADEE8E5B1AA_zpsmgqvkgpq.jpg.html)

It's obviously not a replica of this, but it's small edged counter part.
Spine is impressive, the Middle seems a few mm lower. And there is a lack of bow compared to the gray nics version.

Still an impressive bat non the less.

Seems to be a lot of variation in these bats. I just saw one that had 5 semi straight grains. Still classified as "players grade"

The spiel I read when ordering, said it was willow chosen for size and performance, so blemishes will be present.

I'm not that fussed on looks, but it was a pleasant surprise that mine matched my normal criteri, heartwood inside edge and many grains.

@smilley792 Just out of interest have you re weighed the Warner bat? Just wondering if it's put on any weight, as bats from laver put on 2-3oz do bats from Australia do similar.

It weighs a smidge on over 3lb currently.

With the edition of an octopus grip, scuff sheet and taped toe. I'd say that's about right. So no it's not put any weight on.
