Hi Everyone,
Just a quick post as I can't give anything away too much at this stage. But for 2016 there will be a whole range of equipment arriving for the 2016 season.
This will be firstly Pads & Gloves, both of which include new ideas / theories on protection which should certainly get people talking )
Secondly a small limited range of bats, hand painted and rather nice (RPC made) no diamonds this time!
A "phase 2" generation of thigh pad, made in batch production so off the shelf, and entirely soft, literally floppy, priced at about half the cost of my traditional pads. these aren't better or worse, but offer a different type of fit and performance (still no bruises!)
Also a batting shoe insert which covers the front foot toes and facing side, enough to take away the agony of getting those yorkers.
There will also be a special development with It's Just Cricket's platinum lounge, this will be very exciting but you'll have to stay tuned )
If I am going to show any sneak pics or info, what would people like to hear about ??
Cheers !
George :)
-
All sounds good, especially Looking forward to seeing the pads and gloves.
-
Shoe insert! Tell me more please, Mr Fox?
-
Pads and Gloves! Colour me intrigued. Can I presume they going to be aero like?
-
Shoe inserts? Does that mean that I won't get another broken toe? And I won't have to wear steel capped trainers anymore? :D
-
Sounds fascinating!

What I've been hoping for for sometime is improved wrapped around protection to the end of the bottom thumb, like Rooooot has on his gloves, but doesn't seem to be available on the general market. Had a couple of nasty hits there this season. Any ideas / theories on this one?

At last! Still got a black toenail from a month ago. Would like to see this.
-
Toe protection is a great idea ive often wondered why it hasn't been invented already.

Points for most unusual injury.

Especially after Fred punted one into the stands.

Why? If you have a loose bottom hand grip the end of your thumb is pointing straight at a lifting ball so it's more likely to strike you on the end of the thumb than the padding on the back of it. I don't think my technique's that odd...! Think that's how Roooot broke his thumb a couple of years ago (not that I'm comparing myself with him ;))

Root broke his thumb like that in windows, I broke my thumb like that in nets and felix too. Not very unusual!
George bats pads and gloves previews!!!!
-
GM's 909 glove has the 'Joe Root thumb'
-
Looking forward to the floppy guards George, has much changed since we discussed them early Summer?
-

Rising off a length I take it?
-
Bat range should be called Fox-Pack :) looking forward to pads as have always wanted them but went with Aero instead so keen to try cheaper fox ones first :)
-
Rising off a length I take it?
Yes though I get hit on the gloves more often than I should, I've got a decent defensive technique but think I tend to play with my hands too low.
-
GM's 909 glove has the 'Joe Root thumb'
I know, though it's only a mid-range glove isn't it? It's strange they don't put it on their best models. I'm a sucker for Pittards anyway.
-
All about the thigh pads please George!
-

Wouldn't call it a mid range glove, Robin wore it and the matching pads all season, he can have anything he likes from any brand and yet he chose those.
-
They was pink wasn't they? That's why Robin wore it!! Pinkkkkkkkkkk
-
They was pink wasn't they? That's why Robin wore it!! Pinkkkkkkkkkk
Maybe...
The pads being available in womens size (the lower knee roll potentially conning umpires) had nothing to do with it...
-
Like the sound of the thigh pads. Definitely interest in the pads and gloves as well
-
So when's launch date then?
-

That is a superb glove!!
-

+1 to this. Ramping the bolwing machine up to 140km ph and shooting inswinging yorkers will never be the same again!!!! Hallelujah!

i've never seen them in the flesh so my comment was only based on where they sat in price range, but sounds like I need to take a look. I'm not that squeamish about Pinkkkkkkkkkk. Still puzzles me why it's not a feature that's been more widely adopted though.

SSSHH! (youth pads the same). ;)
-
Right. Let's stop beating around the bush, gentlemen.
Pics of this lot George, or none of it exists!
-
George, is the new line of products-I am think pads and gloves here-going to be manufactured in the UK like the rest of your range or is the cost prohibitive and therefor been out sourced elsewhere?

Great question @windyroad and one I was thinking too!?

Hmmm...no better, no worse yet half the price. This intrigues me!
Also I'm looking to get a set of Stretton Fox thigh pads. Is it worth waiting? I've just started the season in Aus so if I wait I may not use them until next year/season.
Oh and pics please!
-
Hi guys thanks so much for the feedback !
There's a lot happening, here's an initial breakdown !
- New thigh pads, these are a different technology, not like the originals and not like aero or others, the cost difference is simply due to labour as they are not made bespoke or to order but rather "off the shelf" which allows the cost to reduce. The original design suits a made to order service as the hard shell needs to be a good fit otherwise it could be more of a problem than a help.
These pads will also have the velcro front which has been really popular and the spacer rear so it really is the filling which changes.
- Toe guards ! Finally !!!
They should work like after market insoles but they become a toe cap and outer side protector that you can cut down to fit perfectly (less than £10) this area in nets is agony as theres only bone and not much muscle at all, bring 'em on !
- Gloves and Pads, I'm taking it back to the very very very old school to prove a point about theories on padding and how to approach protection. The technology will be called "LPT" (Lifted Platform Technology) and I can promise you will probably all think I'm nuts but honestly wait till you see the videos !
Gloves should prevent any finger compression fractures due to LPT, it's not foam padding or even padding at all !
Pads will weigh almost nothing as there is literally NO padding at all apart from the knee and top hat, plus no more sweaty legs, honestly :) you'll feel the wind through them )
Bats will be made by Robert Pack, the range will be in 2 sections:
- one is a Blueroom vintage surf board tribute hand painted by a very cool Bristol street artist (Not Banksy sorry !)
- The Stretton Fox bat is called "The Ex-Wife" :)
Making of soft goods is planned to be in the UK, I have been off radar for a while as am starting to set up a UK manufacturing facility in Wales, making soft goods locally. This should become quite a major part of Stretton Fox going forward.
However this season will be made off shore with a good contact who does a great job, just to make sure it's all ready on time.
Prototypes are working and soon I will have pics to show, so stay tuned )
How does this all sound ?? :)
-
Sounds very interesting. Especially surf bat and softs. Impressed with bringing work/ jobs to UK!

This topic should be an intriguing one for sure!!!
And I have already started netting for next season, so if you need a 'guinea pig' to test anything and give feedback then I am here for you fella! ;)
-
Slightly confused about how the pads are gonna work, but seeing them (and an IJC review) should iron that out
Overall really interested in what's going to happen!
-
Are the pads like the old hockey goalkeeper ones? Column bolsters with gaps in between?
-
Excellent George, looking forward to seeing the 2016 range. Keep up the good work.
-
It would solve a problem if some of the goodies were ready for Christmas ;)
-
@StrettonFox Sports
George, this thread is useless without pictures.
In fact it may all just be a figment of your imagination ;)
-

Use your bat Pete, you have enough of them :D
-
great news!! excited & can't wait for the pics + more details!!! hope these are all made in the uk...
-
Can't wait for all this stuff to land! I am lucky enough to know a bit more about everything, and its "game changer" potential, but unfortunately I am sworn to secrecy!
Especially excited about the Platinum Lounge range! :D
-
Haven't been this excited for a launch that wasn't a new bat for a long time.
-
send me some ;)
-
I can promise that you guys will be first on the list to know ! Can't wait to see your thoughts !
Pics coming soon promise, I'll give an eta asap
-
Definitely looking forward to seeing the off the shelf thigh pads and toe protector. Sign me up for both! :)

Dam you @StrettonFox Sports , when I saw your name pop up at the bottom of the page I instantly thought "hes posted pics!!!" haha :D
-
Well as usual ill be down for a proto type as im def getting the toe tectors
-
@StrettonFox Sports - quick query, will the toe protector mould to the inside of the shoe or will it be more of a stock sizing?
-
Thanks Neoncricket !
A bit of both, its stock because I', making a LOT ) but you cut to size and its soft so it should fit pretty good in every shoe.
Hope that helps !
-
I'll do a mallet test video soon to show on my toes ;)

-
@StrettonFox Sports - Just to confirm, if I was to purchase a pair of Nike Free's to get spiked up... would the toe protector be suitable for these?
And on that note, @Vitas Cricket - are you still offering a spiking service? Could you sort a half spike on a pair of Nike Free's? :D

Yes :)
-
Fantastic! Sounds like a plan.
-
Hi Neoncricket, the toeguard should fit in every shoe, there is an area you can trim to shape if needed as per aftermarket insoles.
-
Exciting stuff!
-
Hi al, my apologies time is whizzing and the updates are not as frequent as intended.
Firstly, I am expecting amended samples this current week, if there is any delay I will post sketches of the product as would love to hear your thoughts !
Secondly, I'll leave Paul at It's Just Cricket to announce properly but the Platinum Lounge will be working on some exclusive product. I'll let you pester him for that ;)
The main hint I can drop now is on the batting pads, this is a ode to the past, these will be "skeleton" pads as per over 100 years ago but made out of modern premium materials, using quality suedes and heavy PU's. The design is so simple yet brilliantly effective. I can't wait to see peoples faces when, firstly they see the images, but then, secondly actually have a go with a mallet and wear them for an hour or so in nets. You will never have felt such a comfy fit, no excess heat, no sweaty legs, if theres any wind you will actually feel the wind on your legs behind the pads.
Gloves work on a different principle and the main feature will stay a secret until the images, but these are my personal nod to the 90's from a styling pov, plus the mallet test video is unbelievable, I'll post a teaser video on youtube this weekend without showing the glove entirely but showing how it works )
Hope this has been useful, guys thank you again for the continual enthusiasm I won't let you down !!
-
Looking forward to the new millitary grade protection! :D :D :D

I have some Dukes Dalek thigh pads and they don't need every square inch covered in foam either. Most comfortable thigh pad I have owned.

Close with the leg guards but way off with the thigh pads ;) Loving the pics though!!
-
These sound amazing!
-
Stirring new things up with an old wooden spoon !
-
any hints on the new thigh pads you said about?
waiting on these as to wether i order them or a new set of aeros
-
New pads !
The shapes are as per the bespoke original "Shell" options so you get very thorough coverage of all the vulnerable areas.
Velcro top surface so the fit is more forgiving and easier to get a good secure fix.
They are not going to be rigid, but soft enough to "fall" into shape once offered up to the legs. (that sounds weird but you know what I mean !)
Protection level, I'd say plenty.
Oh yes, and the innards are 100% recycled and made in the UK :)
Hope this helps !
-
very tempting.
are you going to the vitas open day? if so what do you think you will be taking
-
Alright StrettonFoxSports, how long ? Pics coming anytime soon?
-
I was meant to post a video over this weekend, tomorrow promise, it's a teaser showing how good the gloves / box will be should be fun !
Luggage collection is almost done and samples are close but they need to look right. It's a bugger !

Can't wait to see it, especially thigh pads

Looking forward to thoughts !

Love the facial expressions mate :)
Looks good, can't wait to see them.
-
Good work Dr Foxy!
brings back fond memories of my sales pitch to CCC back in 2005,. They are always skeptical at 1st but then when you get them to do it with and without air they can feel the difference.
Look forward to seeing the finished product and the added benefits using proper protective materials yield.
-
Thanks guys ! Box video next ;)
-
That is such a tease!!
-
Are you planning to do something similar for w/k gloves. That excitement on your face while doing the demo says it all...priceless

Very kind :)
Yes keeper gloves are in development although they may be later in the season, they will be sweat free (much much better ventilation) and softer to use than the regular rubber with something to stop the fingers going backwards. Bit of a must really !
-
Love that video so much, had me laughing out loud (in a good way)
-
Love the sounds of some of this kit!!! Likely that any will be launched soon enough to make Santa's sleigh?

Glad to hear this is happening. I might hold off on buying a new pair until I see these now.
-
The hammer would have broken if you went harder :D...Guessing by the sound of the strike it has minimal padding?? I haven't been this excited about a glove before.. :)
-
The testing must be so satisfying when you are hammering your gloves and feel fully protected!
Having a set of Stretton Fox thigh pads I know the protection will be far more than I will ever need! So I am seriously desperate to see what the gloves, pads and box are going to look like! :)
-
It's the future!
-
Facial expressions :D
-
Wait till I do the box !
-
haha ummm looking forward to it... :P

the excitement is killing me... :)

Looking forward to these George!

Is this similar to the fingersave development they use in goalkeeper gloves?
-
This is epic
"one of the concerns I have is everything is kind of jammed in at the bottom"
-
1 word George
Nutty! ;)
Legend is also appropriate, can't beleive you actually did a mallet test on a box! :D
-
Might have to do the second video as it comes with an additional option to make it even better :)
Guys thank you so much for the awesome feedback, over the moon !

Is it a built in air conditioner to prevent betty swollocks??

Great to watch George, can't be many things funnier that watching you chat and whack your testicles!!
-
Now that's what I call "thinking outside the box"...or wait is this rather "thinking inside the box".. ;)
-
Giggled like a schoolboy as George started gleefully thrashing away at his groin. Good on you George for a) giving us all a laugh b) having the balls to believe in your product that you've put your own gentleman's conkers in the firing line and c) researching and developing a product in a bit of cricket equipment that many others ignore. I for one am intrigued. Carry on sir!
-
Very kind of you :) it won't disappoint !

Heres another video... Think of it like a cricket helmet ;)
https://vimeo.com/144748990 (https://vimeo.com/144748990)
This is a cycle helmet which is just about to launch, I've been working on this technology for 3 years now and we're just about to start a crowd-fund campaign on Indiegogo this coming Friday 13th November.
As you can see a cricket ball would just bounce off it no trouble at all.
This is a bit shameless but if you know anyone interested in cycling please get them to see this video and visit www.headkayse.com (http://www.headkayse.com)
This could genuinely be something massive !

Having experienced both cricket balls and feet during martial arts hitting me in the box, the biggest problem isn't the straight on attack, it's the up and under which traps the narrow bit directly against your testicles on to the pelvis. An almost inverse tea bagging, if you like... Does your new protection deal with this?

Great videos Gerorge! We definitely, will NOT be whacking our selves in the groin on any product videos in the future. Can't wait to see how all the kit looks! Love the science behind the product. We take ALOT of time working on safety and protection over looks but this is another level. Great job!

No cricket helmet?
I think for a bicycle helmet, your test is not realistic. In case of a bicycle accident, your head would hit the ground hard at a much higher speed than a cricket mallet hit by hand. There will also be twisting of the the neck at Impact which your test does not replicate. Does not look very convincing. Sorry.

From the video, I got that this is merely to show its ability to take low speed hit and stop the brain rattling about, something, an esp liner does not do(as the video explains, not enough force for it to compress)
As far as I can see he has in no way claimed that hitting it with a hammer/bat is replicating a full on high speed accident.
With George designing and building military spec ballistic body armour, I'm sure he's done a lot more testing than a hammer tap before thinking. "Yes this is better I'll tell the world". Like all good product releases, show the info in bits and drabs to get the publics interest up. Don't release it in one hit and people forget about it a week later.
Build the hype.
Also are you claiming an esp bike helmet prevents the neck from twisting in an accident? I've fell of my bike a fair few times, and I'm confident in saying it does not!
-
Hi Guys !
I understand comment on the cycle helmet as the video does only demonstrate low volume impact (did mention in the title). But it's had harsh testing at the department of transports primary facility in Manchester.
The official video is here
Preview of our crowd funding video (Indiegogo release next Friday 13th)
https://vimeo.com/144851951
This material has taken ages to get right, it performs to the high expectancy levels of sub-250G units of energy, an average hit around 160-180 which replicates EPS, but eps only works once and then it's broken, this performs again and again and its soft and flexible. Theres other videos on the vimeo page showing this but the one above covers it all.
If anyone wants to go into the technical data I would be delighted to get my "Geek" on but maybe on a different page ;)
Cheers !
-
Great video and product George, just had a look at the website now. I'm doing a charity bike ride next year, very interested in one of these. I'll sign up for more info I think...
-
Theres a great offer for early birds ;) and CBF members might have to get some sort of cricket bonus as well I'll work something out!
-
I have just signed up to the kickstart site ready for next week....
-
Will CBF members be getting some sort of discount for the new cricket gear you guys are producing?
Also when can we expect more images of new gear, I ask because I really want a new thigh guard for next season :D
-
George, will you be able to do personalised branding on all the new gear you've designed just like you can do on your thigh pads?

Like all good product releases, show the info in bits and drabs to get the publics interest up. Don't release it in one hit and people forget about it a week later.
Build the hype.
Also are you claiming an esp bike helmet prevents the neck from twisting in an accident? I've fell of my bike a fair few times, and I'm confident in saying it does not!
The underlying message of the video is that the helmet is better than the conventional helmet, hence my question.
I don't buy this build-the-hype marketing. We live in a world of short-attention spans and twitter tweets. He has whetted the apeptite and now it's time to put the meal on the table.
-
Cheers !
No need for geeking out, just get on with the real products and their details. Let the products speak for themselves.
-
^ have you got somewhere you need to be? ;)

Conventional bike helmets are seriously flawed in a whole range of ways, very believable that this could pass the same impact test standards no problem at all (partly because current test standards are very low!). Not having to throw away your lid after a crash is a huge selling point, and less painful head jolt on minor impact is also a big win, particularly in the extreme sports market. George if you can get it looking like a conventional BMX/skate style helmet you'll sell boatloads of these!
-
Is this what you're using in the gloves?

Kulli thank you for bringing it back to earth !
This next week should see a lot more development regarding photos etc for pads, gloves and also a cricket coffin (made by the people who make globetrotter luggage, seriously google it !) Although not in the same price bracket!
I can't wait to get this all photographed and online, it WILL be here first and a new website for StrettonFoxSports will be online pre-christmas.
Guys again thanks for your patience, will be worth the wait !
-
Great news can't wait to see all the new products
-
I can wait to see the products. The mrs has been nagging me to get a new box ( the only piece of cricket equipment she wont nag me for buying ironically). Also interested to see how you've brought the new tech into it.

cant wait to see the new website + the entirely new range..

Aslong as the box shape and design doesn't interfere with my thigh pad set up. I can say I'll definately have one.
Helmet is something I would be interested in for cricketing purpose.
Be intrigued how you can alter or incorporate it into the cricketing side, a soft foldable helmet would be quite useful in a cricket bag, although I would presume to attach a grill it may need to be rigid in someway which would prevent this.
But that's why I ain't an inventor. Leave those logistics to cleverer people.
-
Things still going okay at Fox Towers, any update?
-
Hey guys! Sorry sorry sorry!
OK
- The pads and gloves are in final iteration now, I guess I'm just too demanding ! but totally worth it!
- There is an exclusive coffin design for the platinum lounge which will be presented at It's Just Cricket on the 16th December, it's bloomin gorgeous and not as ridiculously priced as you may think considering it's being made at the same place they make luggage for Globe Trotter
- Toe Protectors and phase 2 soft Thigh pads are going to be UK made, this pushed things back again (too fussy) to new year
So it's a staggered release of equipment, photos I think for the coffin will be released by Paul, pads and gloves as soon as humanely possible!
I can get a sneek peek pic of a detail of the pads attached, will do this in a sec )
-
What about the foxy plum protection?
-
Plum protection is being tested in February to achieve full CE certification, the design is complete and looking good!
-
Have just posted 2 pics on www.strettonfoxsports.com (http://www.strettonfoxsports.com) just early samples so the lining material is wrong, but the inner top hat lining is nubuck quilted and perforated suede, and the buckles would make W.G. proud )
-
Sorry forgot to mention, one of the reasons for re-making is the suede buckles do not sit on the edges of the pad, they are centre back. This avoids any "excess" ends from flapping around and getting in the way ;)
-
Ahh now I'm excited, stop being such a tease!

No padding behind the canes. Presumably there is ample padding on the knee and above the instep to hold the canes off the shin, and save lots of weight...is that the principle? @StrettonFox Sports @ItsJustCricket

I like the idea of innovation but them pads i have to agree are a bit iffy looking. Could have worked nice for me maybe if the knee protection was changed but as it is they look too odd lol. Knowing me though i bet i end up buying some lol. I like 2 strap any idea if anyone working on them?
-
I'm sure they've been tested but a ball must be able to squeeze through the gap in the pads? I do love the look of everything though, all very well made and classical
-
Im sorry but they look like something out of a bondage room, bit more S&M than cricket
-
They are potential game changers...
The quality is obvious as is the thought process behind them. Great work George.
-

You say that like it is a bad thing...??!!! :o

-
I personally like the idea, look a damn site better than those Aero monstrosities after all!
Will the straps be padded @StrettonFox Sports? My only concern would be having the leather straight onto whites/skin (I net a lot in shorts!!)
-
The intention of producing this range is not to please everyone with more of the same, instead im enjoying giving a bit of a poke! This does sound a bit awkward I appreciate that. But what if a pair of pads styled on a design over 120 years old in fact perform to just as high a standard as the latest branded foams claiming to be light years ahead? And with nothing but air ! Certainly raises questions)
If they look the same as everyone else, even with this idea, the point wouldn't perhaps come across so obviously (not to mention be as much fun!) yes probably there won't be queues lining up to wear them but it's made you all think! Isn't that what brands are meant to do?
Above all its great to get people chatting )
-
i love the look of them george, definitely different.
do you have any prices yet?
-
The protection will be what we expect from Foxy - the best in the world!
Price wise, the gloves will be around the 60-80 range, and the pads around the 70-90 range - certainly a lot cheaper than a lot of stuff out there!
CBD
-
I think they are very competitive prices. Probably a little cheaper then I was expecting truthfully.
Think it's time to shift some kit and make room for some new stuff.
-
Although the pads look unusual, when they are worn you will only see the whites of your trousers in the gaps.
What will be the finished weight of the pads
-
If you have mucky or blood stained trousers, you will see that to.
Could pull your socks up high to show em off.....
Waiting on more pics of gloves, as long as no stupid buckles on wrist straps I'll probably have a pair of them and a box.
To George, your kit is always of the highest quality, and the protection is unparalleled, I just really really hope in the near future that this quality and level of protection also comes in a more modern looking range along side these.
Both to please more people, and to hopefully make you a lot more money.
Goodluck
-
The pads are along with some other stuff on here open opportunities for sledging, I would personally love that, and had it not been for my xxx customs, I would buy them. If looks disrupt you from quality, put on some clads..

Concentrate on your game and stop worrying about what people think. "Mummy those men said mean things about my pads, tell them off pwease"
It's what I hate about cricket, the inability to move for word or think out the box, as everyone is scared of someone saying something.
The only thing putting me off pads is the buckles, I waited years as a youth to be able to afford Velcro, I'm not going back!
As for the exclusiveness, it's all abit (No Swearing Please) ain't it. Why limit to one seller? One place? Shooting yourself in the foot just like new balance did with the blue and yellow gear.

Thanks dad

Those gloves are absolutely exquisite. Simply superb.
-
I appreciate the idea behind the pads but can't see myself strapping a pair on for game day. I could see them however, on display in the mancave, part art/retro design displayed to encourage conversation.
Innovation and brands wandering off in a different direction is great.
-
The buckles are what puts me off.
Gone are the days of having your pads either flap around or cut off the circulation to your legs.
Maybe those tan leather velcro straps lile M&H used to do would be a better option?
Just my 2p worth on those
Now lets get some proper pictures of the brain protion and the toe protector!
-
In regards to the looks, George, when we chatted yesterday, acknowledged that a more "performance" version of these pads would no doubt sell better. If he made it with a velcro strap, made with say white mesh instead of full on gaps in the pads, he could make them look similar to modern pads, and therefore more suitable for a lot of people. However, George isn't trying to take over the world, and he wanted to go all out on the vintage, old-school look, and he knows it might polarise opinion! It also means the leather and brass makes it a little heavier than it needs to be, but there may be scope for the "performance" version sometime in the future which would combine the best aspects.
The shoe protection is literally just a shoe insole! Looks like an orthotic!
-

You say that, but to anyone who didn't attend the event there's no proof it even exists ;)
-
Looks like a fashion/design item rather than a functional protection product, and it's clearly intended that way. Shame, other than Puma Flextech pads really haven't changed in probably 80+ years. There's clear improvement potential with modern materials and manufacturing, I'll still be hoping for a pushing the limits set of pads!
-
Pads looks useless. I wouldn't wear them facing a fast bowler or a high set Bola.
-
However, George isn't trying to take over the world, and he wanted to go all out on the vintage, old-school look, and he knows it might polarise opinion!
Polarize opinion? Seriously? Has he thought about going on a talk show?
Pads look like old school field hockey goalie pads. What is there to polarize opinion? Aero P1 do the job just fine and is a well thought out product.
All this hoopla over months for this. :D
-

Having worn and still wearing body armour by George, the ability to protect isn't something I'd ever question.
Probably why so many pros trust him, and why the military did.
Anyway, there not these pads, but I'm sure he's not going backwards in protection level.

This kind of thing is exactly what I'd be after, something different! Would love pads slim and light enough you could potentially wear them under whites, imagine how much more freely you'd move.
@StrettonFox Sports what happened to these? Been hoping a production version would be imminent for over two years now ha.

@ItsJustCricket stick me down for a pair if these ever get made - exactly my thoughts when I first saw them, bit of mesh in the gaps and some padded velcro straps and they're a winner for me!
-
I sense that there may be some George Fox shaped trolling going on....
-
I'm still waiting to see the plum protector, it's top of my Christmas list following a coupe of hefty blows!
-
plum and tootsie protector is what im after so waiting for georgie porgie to show us his sweet things
-
Personally I'm not a fan of those pads! Think they look awful. Still looking forward to seeing the toe protection though
-
You can't beat a bit of retro now and again. I like the look of the pads - I would prefer velcro straps for ease of use though.
-
Depending on price and fit, may have to invest no a set of toe protectors!
-
A "phase 2" generation of thigh pad, made in batch production so off the shelf, and entirely soft, literally floppy, priced at about half the cost of my traditional pads. these aren't better or worse, but offer a different type of fit and performance (still no bruises!)
Also a batting shoe insert which covers the front foot toes and facing side, enough to take away the agony of getting those yorkers.
Any news on when we can see/buy these items George?
Thanks.

I'm also still waiting for news of the new box!
-
Hey guys, I can't apologise enough for the delay, so maybe will drop a little bit of news as was hoping to say this with pics!!
1. Cases, the "flagship" being made in England by Nomad (the original designers and manufacturers of the coffin throughout the 80's/90's) but with some modern tweaks such a full aluminium reinforced frame and opening mechanism, will be ready early Feb in 4 colours. All photos etc coming soon. There is also a one off edition for the Platinum Lounge which will only be for sale through It's Just Cricket's Platinum Lounge store.
2. Bats, made by Robert Pack, the "Ex-Wife" will only have a run of 10 units, they are all named individually, not that I have 10 ex-wifes but any requests can be done if you want a particular name !
3. Gloves, have gone through some pretty exceptional testing at a MCC University and the results are awesome, some of you may have noticed on the pics there are extra components which stop the ball from being able to squash the finger tips and we've applied some mods after reviewing some pretty in-depth data on hand injuries in cricket over the last 10 years. This is brand new tech so should be great fun this season, again videos and official pics early feb.
4. Pads, ok, some people guessed but I've been a bit cheeky as it's been fun to get feedback and allow people to "express themselves" :) after all thats the fun! But the pics of the pads are actually old samples (hence no logos etc..) from early developments.
- I'm making a small set of proper vintage, canvas front pads very similar to the sneek peeks shown online earlier, these are for a special event and are genuinely based on a design from the 1920's, I've been very fortunate to find these original artworks!
- However the real pads are going to be similar, but with a lined facing so you cant see all the way through although allowing huge airflow. they have leather and black velcro (look awesome) straps, and still a lifted structure so nothing touches the shins they remain completely open and ventilated. So looking more modern, but no leg padding whatsoever, as you don't need it with these!
- Toe guards are being tested but are almost ready to go. They look simple because they are, but they work !
- The Fox Box! Looks like we may be later with this than early Feb with the rest of the equipment. Theres a lot of official testing to do and I need to be absolutely sure your "prides and joys" are looked after, again we've had some good MCCU testing done and feedback is waay more comfy than anything else, and I guess you've seen the video?
So, in summary, By the second week of Feb I aim to have videos, pictures and a complete website up and running, offering a quite new approach to getting cricket gear, bit more boutique and less motorcross! Again sorry for the delay i've had a lot on with a seperate venture in cycling which completes on the 11th Feb.
Please shout with any queries I've probably left things out!
Oh yes, and check out Nek-Tek from Ayrtek, I'll shoot a hammer video looking at the different Stem guards available soon to demonstrate what does what.
Cheers,
George
-
What about the phase 2 thigh pad?
-
will your box fit into the pouch in shorts? Specifically shock doc shorts?
hoping all is ready soon as need to finish off my kit for the season and just waiting on a few foxy things after my ayrtek comes home
-
Top stuff, those pads sound perfect.
I'm in need of some rather plain pads/gloves alongside 2 of the toe protectors so my February bonus could well be taking a Stretton shaped hit by the sounds of it!

Nice work, George. Some top-quality self-trolling gone on here! Excellent entertainment and those softs sound proper revolutionary AND modern. Best of luck with the production kit.

Phase 2 thigh pads, yes, bugger! sorry they're also looking at Feb/March release, these are insane !!
Very different to the originals and no way to compare like for like, they are going to offer 80% of the protection however be completely soft and flexible as well as lighter, very breathable and should look pretty cool, almost a bit space age!
Unfortunately no bespoke with this stuff though, they will be made in the UK but in batch production so we can sell them for hopefully around £45 a set.

i think im going to have to save my pennies and sell some excess kit before march.

I'm just wondering if a stand up coffin would work? Top entry for pads, boot and helmet sections and a nice bat cave. Hmmmmm

OK, so 250 quid is quite a lot, this one is 110 quid cheaper and it's bigger and has more aluminium.

George is ace, I love some of the stuff he does. Pads not my cup of tea, but The coffin oh yes, I requested a slightly smaller coffin to fit in the boot of my car - it is due tomorrow and I cannot wait - navy blue and proper old school.
Here are the pics, including one in the sunshine. Had to put the old school Laver Bradman in it, and a bit of a special B3.

You seem obsessed with money.
Also two posts in and two sponsors you've had a pop at. Which sponsor is next??
Maybe you'd be better of spending some Money with lekka.......mark james, whoops I mean james mark will look after you well.

You'd be popular on the Northern line on a Monday morning with one of those...

A quality product will attract a quality price no matter what business sector you buy from, would I buy? No, but not because of price particularly, because it is not my cup of tea, and I have enough problems getting my tempo bag into my little car let alone a coffin lol.. But it does look nice..
It will sell for sure...
Now tell me more about the soft thigh pads pleeeeease.....
-
That coffin is very disappointing. Doesn't fit all your kit in!!! Behave!

I didn't say it was perfect! I said it was nice, it does look nice...

Do you use it to take your double bass to band practice in the winter?

WHO? if you mean me, read my post... I think that will tell you I don't/won't have one....

Good comments on the coffin! Very true it's not everyones thing, and it's also not mass produced by some poor underpaid chap on the other side of the world, but instead by professionals who've made goods for LVMH and Globetrotter. I appreciate it's not affordable for everyone but then again neither are bats at half a grand) The point of making it is to provide something different and get people talking. So feedback whether good or not is at least giving you guys something to discuss so I'm happy! Just look at watches, depending on the origin and time and attention to quality provided gives prices from £5 - almost millions, people seem to get that but not this!
Cricket as an industry seems to be in an unusual place where certain items are accepted at phenomenal costs, yet other items are expected to be cheap as chips. Understanding of where things come from, their intended market placement and who buys them has always been interesting and even more so when something is a bit different )
PS they are all made bespoke so you can have any size you want, the current dimensions are suitable for the average players kit but if you're a hoarder then we can make it bigger!
Thanks

PS theres some better pics uploaded to www.strettonfoxsports.com (http://www.strettonfoxsports.com)

I see, that wasn't stated in the video as far as I recall, might be wrong. But that's good :)

George,
Great news on all of this - bag, and softs - am saving up/getting b'day present requests in now!
If the coffin is the sort of thing that is going to last, and is fully bespoke in terms of size, then £250 just isn't that much - I totally concur with your thoughts re: garishly coloured mass produced-in-China nylon tat (e.g. Supernova duffle) going for £50 vs something like this.
We do all pay this sort of money for bats that are handmade in England vs Kashmir willow made in India, so why not for bags? I agree with your sentiments of gently challenging our mindsets, and thank you for doing so. Very similar to what you're trying to do with Head Kayse as well. Achieving a paradigm shift is never going to be easy - you must really have been very busy recently, especially considering how many milieus you're working in.
Will be placing an order closer to birthday time. And eagerly await the toe guard in the meantime!
Cheers

I don't doubt the quality of the coffin and it does look superb. I think the video lets it down, as they say it doesn't fit all your kit and costs £250. No mention of the coffin being made to measure.
-
I think ijc stock an off the shelf one, which as they buy in a few will be made to a size and can be bought there and then.
Go to stretton himself and you can pick and choose what you like. Colour, size etc.
I wanted a stand up style one, but know thinking I want on to put my bat collection in.
-
Hey guys! Thank you SOO much for your patience, I appreciate its starting to probably look like theres nothing to show!
The reality is something possibly very cool is underway between Stretton Fox and someone else, until everything is sorted I can't let anything out! Talk about a poor answer :) One thing I can promise is any news will be said here before anywhere else.
PS tomorrow am at Robert Pack Cricket all day with an awesome group of guys, if anyones local feel free to drop by!
Cheers!

As long as the toe guard is up and running before may, then I'm happy!

1) why the second generation? was there demand for this?
2) if the first one was good enough why make the second?
3) would people prefer more flexible thigh guards?
-
4) will the more flexible thigh pads compromise on protection ? if not why make the harder ones?
5) for gloves, what will you use the harder or the more flexible type? I'm guessing more flexible type?
6) do the police in their protective kit use the harder type.? as they will find it hard to move about?
-
7) as for the toe insert, will this go inside the shoe? will i have to get bigger shoes?
8) will your batting pads be lighter then the morrant (international ) ones? if not i won't be buying them.
9) will you make a thinner layer of protection that people can buy and put in various part of their kit, such as extra layer around the knew area of the pads, keeping inners... or shoe insoles... or goal keeping shorts. or even batting shorts where you have the whole one side of this foam etcs so the whole shorts are the pads...

After my net at Trent Bridge last night I echo this sentiment!!!
I now have a very sore toe!

Hi Cricketfan99, good questions!
1, 2, 3, 4 - This is something completely different, some people will prefer the originals and some will prefer this. It's completely new and not in any way like a regular pad so rather than saying one is better, they will sit parallel.
5 Gloves, again, something different here as well, more outside the box!
6 The original protection was a variant and not quite to this spec, there were additional elements included but I can't say )
7 Toe inserts are not too thick so you should be ok
8 batting pads will be very light but Morrant do a different (and very good) job with their single piece moulds.
9 protective sheeting, yes, tbc )
Hope this helps, I still can't give much more info for now but will be able soon!

pushing it close for the start of the season George :)
PS - How did the Headkayse kickstarter go??

@StrettonFox Sports, it's getting very close to the season, I really would like to see the new gear before the start, it would be nice to be able to choose my new bits with yours in the mix also.
Thanks.

Hi everyone, a quick update.
I've been restricted to what I can say at this stage but some information can be mentioned as it influences SS16. This is the first platform where this info is being mentioned.
Stretton Fox is currently in discussions with another cricket brand regarding collaborations of current and new technologies moving forward into 2017, the immediate result is all developments under Stretton Fox have been and are currently on hold until this is fully confirmed. I can't say who and any more details other than if everything goes well 2017 will see more kit innovation than I personally think has happened in over 30 years.
How this effects the current situation is 2016 will not see Stretton Fox soft goods.
The batting pad images were actually (I think most people guessed anyway!) a bit of a spoof to get people talking) there is an amount of truth in the technology as we are looking outside the box a bit, but the actual pads are very different. A few people have seen the real designs but otherwise this is, as the above on hold.
To the very patient and kind players who have kept in close touch waiting for a landing date I can only apologise. It does mean 2016 will not have all the stated kit, but honestly, if all goes to plan you'll forget that in about 2secs after seeing whats hopefully in store!
Feel free to drop me emails george@strettonfoxsports.com
Thanks again!
George

Good for you mate, sounds like you've got some exciting stuff in the pipeline!

@StrettonFox Sports This sounds promising, best of luck with it!
Does the no Stretton Fox Soft Goods in 2016 include the toe protectors ?
Thanks
-
Sounds great - hope it goes well!
But as above, my kingdom for a toe protector!
-
All sounds very exciting @StrettonFox Sports hope it all works out and look forward to the updates as and when...
-
OK Update from today (Still can't say too much) is in principle the merger has been agreed! Details to be discussed over the next few weeks with directors but this could be huge ) above all for you guys as the tech is miles ahead ))
As soon as I'm allowed to say who, what etc I will. Thanks again all for your support it's enormously appreciated!

Ohhhhh you tease..
-
Does this mean you are stopping production of your current thigh pads as well or is it just your new in-development items which have been halted?
-
i feel like I'm waiting for the new iPhone but it is so much better!!!
-
He is still producing his normal gear, the new stuff youll have to wait for!

Ahh very good, that'd make them front runners I'd say!
-
All seems a bit quiet on the western front but any update on this merger or products??
-
All sounded good from when i last spoke to him, next season though. Nothing soon.
-
Has there been any update regarding the proposed merger? Also, any news about those shoe insert yorker protectors?
-
any news about those shoe insert yorker protectors?
Hopefully! Which means i can net in some comfy trainers

Any update on the off the shelf range Mr Fox? One net in and Ive realised my moonwalkrs are too bulky for match use

I was just looking at Moonwalkrs. How thick are they?
-
I was just looking at Moonwalkrs. How thick are they?
They are about the same as strippers but for me the fit isnt as good (i think they only come in one size) which makes them less flexible and they feel bulkier. I dont like to be weighed down too much when Im batting anyway so might just be me being over fussy
Cant fault them for protection
-
I really struggled with fit of moonwalkrs. Found them much bulkier than my P2's. Can barely feel the strettons in comparison to both Moonwalkr and P2's.
-
Yeah I need some strettons in my life before the season starts
-
Could have done with a toe guard on Sunday gone.
-
any news? could do with a new arm guard :-)
-
Anything?
-
Has anyone contacted George direct to see if there are any developments?
I'm pretty sure he doesn't check in on this thread that regularly as his mystical portal to the cricketing consumer :)
-
I spoke to George recently and he seems to be shipping all the relevant and required wears. I recommend getting in contact direct if you want any thing specific via facebook
-
NO MATTHEW!!!!
This forum is the centre of the cricketing nerd-verse! why are these manufacturers not on here 24-7 waiting to answer to our every whim and posting their most intimate musings - anyone would think they have businesses to run or something!
Honestly, they are as feckless as the slothful admins on here, taking all that time to approve posts etc!!
What is this world coming to?
-
Hi, iam intrested to see your new supply, I like get your new gear for me, let me know, thx
-
any advance?
-
Since 2015? Not much apparently.
-

It's best you email George directly. I had got a set of customs made last year, really happy with the final product.
-
What are the prices like on the customs?
-
Same as regular prices if I am not too wrong.
-
Think mine were £120 for inner and outer thigh pad
