Evening,
whilst at work this afternoon, i was thinking of what could be the most irrelevant statistic, I have a few!
Taking a wicket for every team at my club bar ladies
Taking a wicket with first ball of my spells for all saturday teams,
and playing an innings in which was either dot ball or boundary!
any others....
-
I've been out for 6 in 2ball innings 5 times........
-
I've played for the same club for 10 seasons but only played for the opposition on our home ground (2nd pitch)
-
Broke/used more bats this season than all the bats I've used owned in 40 yrs of playing!
-
I've managed six innings in the last two seasons without conceeding a boundary from any fielding position.
-
I've got off the mark with a 6 three times (including once first ball)
My (No Swearing Please) length in inches is a higher number than my batting average
-
My batting average
It's become increasingly apparent that at the amateur level, you can tell far more watching people and having the right player in the right role than judging by stats.. Means my avg is now irrelevant as it's more how you contribute to the team
-
In 2012 I only played twice and scored a total of 5 runs.... All in one shot

As well as winning most runs at our recent awards, I also won most ducks. On the assumption I'd scored the most (skipper winged it on the night, he didn't compile the stats). I got one all season, compared to a team mate who achieved the Audi four in four. I now have a golden duck sitting on my shelf.
Seems pretty irrelevant to me!
-
Only ever bowled one (incomplete) over in a competitive game. Figures of 0.4-0-1-1 :-[
-
scored 250ish runs- averaged 30odd at home this year. Only scored 4 runs (7 knocks) in away games!
-
I have passed 93 a total of 5 times and never been out from then on.
So if I'm looking to guarantee red ink I just need to get to 94....
-
I averaged 64 (with the bat) on-loan this summer but probably less than 5 for my own club.
-
once bowled at the end of the innings, asked to clean up the stubborn tail... obliged with
0.4 -0-0-4
-
Once reached 25 entirely in misfields and overthrows.

I like that, I think that's something I should abide by.
-
My first and only 50 to date came last season exclusively in boundaries! 52 off 33 balls, 13 4's 20 dots!
-
I have scored 50+ in each of the 8 months. March to October.
-
I have had a 50 partnership with two different players where their contribution was 0 runs.
-
Been out on 91,92,93,94,95,96,97, and 99 just 98 to go.
-
Also been in opening partnerships twice when first wicket fell with score over 200 before I had 50
-
I've hit approximately 15 hundreds and never been out in the 70's, 80's or 90's.
-
Our club secretary would love this thread!
-
I have faced three hattrick balls and have got a G.D. all three times.

Yes!!
I never hear this opinion, my average is 15, but in a 3rd/4th XI where every other player has no defence, scores at 100+ SR but only one or two players a game will actually come off and bat 10 overs, I'm the guy that scores 30 in 40 overs and means we bat the length. Every game I bat 35 overs, we win, but I average 15, top score last season was 35. And the fact is I'm not choosing not to score 50s/100s, I can't. But I still did walk away from last season relatively satisfied that I'd made about as big a contribution to the team as all the guys who left with good stats.
-
I've also been on a hat trick 3 times, and bowled 3 no balls!
-
I have taken a wicket at a higher standard bowling left arm spin than anything right arm and I have always been a right arm bowler.

My first team batting average is pretty irrelevant to the overall first team scores!!!!!

-

-

Forgot about the bowling one 14 consecutive overs 17 runs 4 wickets.
-
I played in a game a lomg time ago where I dropped the same batsman 3 times in the same fielding position off three different bowlers.
I didn't realise I'd broken my thumb until the 3rd one went down.
-
Never scored a ton on my home team's pitch, but been run out for 99 twice!

Sorry, think it's 4 times actually lol
98* v Marlow park, I was skipper and declared thanks to my ever so helpful team mates not bothering to even hint I was close to a ton.
98* for Bramhope in the wetherby league. Last over and I wanted to take every run for the team. Non striker suggested playing for myself. I smacked one down the ground and he didn't run, fielder misfielded and we could of walked 2. Next 3 balls were pretty close to Yorkers and I ran out of time as it was the last over.
98* against NPL Teddington. Chasing 170 I came in at 50-3 and got off to a flyer, hitting 14 off my first 5 balls. Carried on like that and we had no batting. Won by 2 wickets and ran out of runs. Probably as close I have got to a flawless innings.
98* for Bramhope in the wetherby, last over the other guy was on strike and didn't think to rotate it seeing how he was about 5* and the other guy was on 98*. Flapped a bit but he faced all six balls for nothing.
Combination of unhelpful team mates, running out of overs in a 45 over league and reaching the target.
Was also stumped on 96 once, playing for the team and nobody gave me a hint I was close that time either.

You know Nick, I thought you seemed a nice bloke, but maybe your teammates are trying to tell you something by never letting you know you're close lol ;)

I think they either over think it or don't think at all. I'm not a fan of not telling somebody they are in their 90s. I think they earned the right to know and poke a few singles to get to 3 figures, as long as it isn't slowing the team down. When you are seeing the ball that well and in full flow you don't change how you bat but you might avoid anything too unnecessary (ie. stay in your crease, maybe work the ball around instead of trying to clear the 4 deep fielders). That said, some of the cricket was brainless and when you bat with a guy on 90 odd you listen to what he says and play for him. On 2 of the occasions they didn't.
-
I've never been dropped :(
-
I've never been on the losing side if I've taken a 4-fer (or better)
For the last 3 seasons, in all cricket I have played, I have not failed to get off the mark if I survived my first ball.
-
faced the same bowler twice last season 2 golden ducks both bowled playing a forward defensive!

@ProWannabe88 (RP Cricket) haha i will always remember that game.
deep square leg at home lol absolute comedy what made it better was i hardly ever seen you drop a catch lol

Back in school cricket I got another school's opening bat out bowled first ball of the game three years in a row, same ball every time.
I'd never taken a 4-for before last season, always got to 5 or more if I took 4. Then took 4-22 two games in a row, with the same guy on my team getting the no.11 out both games. Thanks mate!
